Anxiety, Suicide, and Having NO PURPOSE (The CRAZIEST Re-Frame You've Ever Heard)

  • Anxiety, Suicide, Depression are on the rise. Everyone is taking opioids and painkillers to dull the soul crushing weight of modernity.
But it doesn't make sense, we are well fed, warm, safe. We live in paradise, why is everything turning to ash in our mouths?
Obviously its because of muh meaning crisis, the death of God, muh nihilism
But we have to be clear - at the root of that is a MISUNDERSTANDING.
Our spirituality is rooted in our EMOTIONS - ever wonder why Satan and his demons appear to people as "temptations" and "evil thoughts" and "dark moods"
In order to "solve the meaning crisis" we will have to look to the SOURCE - our feelings - and come to UNDERSTAND THEM
In this video I do this using the old model of GREEK MYTHOLOGY to get the point across
    ...And for good measure:
Nietzsche wrote all his books because he was anxious by the thought of Marcus Aurelius waiting up in heaven ready to wrestle him into compromising positions in front of Jupiter

@VisNatura y? Because existential disorientation is within an arbitrary self limitation to stave off anxiety, immersing oneself in the chaos outside the citadel walls is a realisation, the dragon guards spiritual understanding, the dragon and the treasure are reciprocal, identical even, acknowledged, this is not an empirical concept but an archetype, a narrative as opposed to a vernacular of discrete units

"For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it."
      - Matthew 16:25
That's a common problem with most of this culture of "intellectualism". For some reason they always omit Christ in an attempt to make it Biblical teachings more palatable to the masses. In doing so, the true significance is lost. Timeless wisdom is reduced to a tagline. And instead of attributing what is due to the Lord, normal men become idolized.
Not condemning anyone. I'm pretty sure this is just as much of an introspective retrospection as it is a current observation. It's truly amazing how the human mind is designed, how perception of the world and self are so intimately intertwined.

  • @roygbiv176
    @roygbiv176 4 роки тому +92

You're absolutely right at 38:29 that when you realise you have nothing to lose you can finally give yourself the liberty to go all in on life.
I once put it in these words to someone who was feeling depressed and asking whether life was worth it:
"As we grow older, more knowledgeable and aware of our weaknesses, the childlike will to life, the sense of magic , novelty and unquestioned power fades out of focus. It is up to you to renew your vision by awakening a sense of vocation and intellectual intuition.
If you are pushed to nihilism by knowledge of the transcience of all things, the lack of grounding and the sense of unreality, remember that your impression of life was not always this way. If it is truly all in your head, then you can just as well turn life into a dream instead of a waking nightmare."

True- the way I see it is a sober evaluation discloses life in its inherent worthlessness, it's possible to live arbitrarily and without fear, if you sacrifice everything, your life unambiguously, I mean viscerally with contempt for all life has to offer- life in itself, you're free,
The fight club film with brad pitt and ed norton illustrates the point, hence its popularity, live is livable, to be enjoyed, not in the wishy-washy sense of falling in love and a happy-ever-after, but an objective don't-give-a-fuck

One year i was night logging in the deep north of canada. My saw had broken and i was repairing it, when i felt this intense feeling of immediate danger. I get these feelings out here a fair bit but not that strong. I pulled my wrench a few more times to finish fast then i turned and bolted as fast as i could towards the cab of my machine. I heard something behind me, but i got up on my machine. I turn around and a wolf the size of a tiger was 5 feet away from me looking at me. Idk if wolfo would have actually did anything, probably not to be honest. I think he was hiding about 15 feet away watching me fix the machine. I don't think he had any interest in fighting. But when i ran he got excited like any dog and chased me. I sensed this doggo wolfo without consious awareness, my instinct was to run. But running would have been the wrong action if i didnt have my machine only 4 big steps away. The unconscious is aware of things, but the urge to act may be wrong in many contexts. The right move woulda been to just do my work calm and walk back to the machine. Had i tripped running and fell in front of the machine he would caught me if he wanted.

Stuff like this, and the "I'm being watched" sense - we've got POWERS we aren't tapping into

    • @MikkoAPenttila
      @MikkoAPenttila 4 роки тому +5

That's a great story and a great lesson at the end. Indeed we have powers we're not tapping into but it's also easy to miss what a superpower our conscious mind is. I think that the sense of being watched is shared by countless species but humans are unique in our conscious abilities at least among Earth species and that's the biggest reason for our success even if it may have led to some of the abilities possessed by our ancestors, such as the sense of being watched, atrophying and falling at least partly into the unconscious.

But if you can't trust your own sensations, what can you trust? Your own self doubt of your own instincts is itself a feeling you have.
That's making some large assumptions the other way: instincts can be honed.
You as a civilized person was very jumpy around that wolf. But would a hunter who had crept through those woods for years and may even feel some kind of kinship with his fellow predators react in the same way? He'd probably still feel the fear but would be adapted to the situation well enough to "fight" it and remain calm rather than flying; he might experience and interpret the fear in a different way. Why else would primitive man have the capacity for conscious inhibition?
What about in other areas: when you do something as simple as tying your shoelaces, it's a complex process when you don't know how to do it, but as we all are now you don't have to think about it. It is, "second nature."
I wouldn't go as far as to say that your emotions are infallible. What would it mean if they were? Infallible is just a notion we have, when what is right and wrong is relativistic.
But at the end of the day, you don't have much of a choice but to trust whatever limited understanding you are able to get from them even if the conclusions you draw from them may be wrong.

Apropos "powers". Atrophied or not, they can be trained. Saw this documentry some month ago and am still not sure, to which extend i "want" to believe this. Something like telepathy is hard to grasp for me, but tuning your nervous system into certain states to match those of other creatures isn't that far away and can be explained well by science.

Good video. I think it sums up some points you have made previously in a nice coherent way.
I also however want to point out that i think the god metaphor is great for explaining things, but can lead to feelings being defined under a brush which is too wide. For example, the god of love would perhaps be defined as the part of you which both wants sexual gratification, and intimate romantic relationships. It seems however that it is more correct to split this one god into two gods, who will have to both be accommodated. I base this on the fact that the ned for sexual satisfaction can be accommodated without the need for intimate relations being so, and one should therefore be careful when destilling a feeling, into one goal, since this will lead to the neglect of others.

Absolutely, I think this is what happens when you really do this properly, you begin to understand it like a musician understands all the diffrent subtle notes
I imagine that people DID this for thousands of years, and that why Greek Myth is so powerfully psychologically resonant (3 names/Gods for love?)

It's culturally normal to both eat so much sugar your teeth ache and to celebrate slave mentality. Quitting sugar may just be one gateway to a stronger mind.

I can't stop envisioning you standing on the bouey of a sea plane as it ascends in to the heaven. Sallt water misting into your hair while your out stretched hand grasps at the orange morning sun as it just breaks the horizon.
You said something about anger and heirarchy and kings and stuff. I can't pay attention.
I just love how you use your hands with such emotional intensity.
Yes aries help me. I am hungry.

I thought i had overcome Nihilism many years ago. Now, as I delve deeper and deeper into the AI topic, my thoughts become darker and darker. I don't know if Nietzsche or Jung or Peterson have the wisdom for the new reality we find ourselves in.

I had a fear of real violence and still do kind of, it’s not so much the violence anymore as the fear of the outcome of violence. I got into boxing and did the same as you, but I knew it meant nothing unless I test it out in the ring. I’ve done that now. It was surreal knowing that the crowd and everyone else just sees a boxing match. Meanwhile I’m fighting my f***ing demons in there.

Hind's Feet on High Places - Hannah Hurnard ... the first printing has a profound epilogue... the author talks about how she had to ride the old style Sesselbahn in the Alps in order to get to her destination to do a writing sabbatical. The protagonist name was Much Afraid, who after walking a time with Suffering and similar companions, she is renamed Grace and Glory. The book is worth a read if one can look past the religious connotations, re: fear, it's the epilogue that really moved me.
