This woman is a genius, black panther is one of the greatest examples of how complex costume designs can be.
I was just coming here to comment the same thing. I feel like genius is almost an understatement. It is so impressive to be able to express all this context in details.
She stayed at a hotel I worked at and I couldn't believe how chill she was and there were a lot of less legendary people who acted so entitled.
How does one, be legendary, but less legendary than a marvel costume designer?
I saw her speak when her exhibit opened at mopop. Her warmth and inclusion really shone through.
i cannot stop staring at Queen Ramonda's dress in the background it's one of the most beautiful ensembles ive ever seen
Same! Its a stunning peice and very much a credit to her craft.
Queen?
@Hebrew Israelite no she’s just a talented black woman
Rest In Peace Chadwick🙏😔
RIP he will be missed forever
Phenomenal designer and costume ideas. I love hearing her speak.
Black Panther: One of Marvel's best. I really enjoyed it.
I would go as far as to say THE best
Im rioting peacefully
@@flynncollins6930 but like why
I do respect you opinion but come on man that movie was complete trash. Ant-Man had a better story line then the panther black.
@@flynncollins6930 you must don't watch many movies.
It's incredible how her disappointment as aspiring actress her to find a way to express her creative potential, and when she speaks, she says "we, we" giving credit to her team.
She did the costumes for Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X, & Black Panther?! Forever a black icon!
Lmao she’s white tho
@@Simon-eo4dfNo she's not white she's black and proud.
Such a careful, thoughtful, insightful artist. So grateful to be able to hear more about her process.
What and incredibly accomplished and well spoken woman! She is so humble and forthright with sharing her perspective and intention in her design process. Small details like Martin Luther King’s collar is so interesting and I imagine can really get an actor into the zone. She is a true master of her craft!
So glad to hear she’s getting an exhibition! Well earned, in my book.
Wow!!! She’s worked on some amazing films.
She’s brilliant.
An absolute beast at her craft

Ruth Carter...in every interview you offer so much more insight to your craft. When it comes to costume design, YOU are the standard. You are MAGIC!

Embroidery was done in India!!
Proud of my country ❣️
As you should ♥️
Black Panther movie was tight. Costumes, cinematic storyline, special effects and music... I went to see it with my daughter in the theatre.
It was so boring
What a wonderful and interesting person. Not only is she super smart and has great observations, but she is an amazing communicator. This is the kind of person I would dream of working with.
What a wonderful look to her creative process.. Also I really enjoyed her way of explaining things clearly and not getting too technical while still conveying her passion and her amazing research behind all the costumes
That whole movie was boss (BP).Especially the female characters and their costumes! The fight scene in the club alone - that red dress was genius for its movement. The warrior uniforms are stunning... so much yes in every aspect of this movie. Bravo for your creative vision in this film!
rip chadwick 🖤, this woman is a genius
Just realized her costume design changed fashion in the early 1990's. There's the before and the after Do the Right Thing. I remember people wearing more colors and african prints once the movie was out.
Black is beautiful 🖤
really?
Nah
@@tubawarlordwong9408 why is that
@@Phillysavage er do you have eyes?
Wow these replies didn't pass the vibe check
Excellent interview! I loved hearing her thought process. .. and as far back as her career goes ( Do The Right Thing ) she has definitely put her time in. She has made her place in history and it’s beautiful to see.
Ms. Carter, you may never see this comment but I pray that you do, you are one of the most mesmerizingly, wonderful storytellers I have ever had the pleasure of watching and listening to, your spirit and your persona are captivating. I have ever heard anyone speak more superbly about our people and their history then you did in this video, the phrasing of your kind words inspired me and made me proud of being an Africa American. I just wanna thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and sharing a small part of your/our history in the film industry. May GOD bless you with a very long, healthy, happy, prosperous life. I wish we had so many more people in the world like you. Take care, be safe, and GOD Bless You Always!
Can I just say she is living the dream I aspire to achieve. Thank you for sharing your story. It gives me hope for the future.
I pray you achieve your dream!
You can do it!~
What an amazing woman, I greatly appreaicate how important custome designing is for her. Every one of her pieces are truly stunning, you can clearly see how much time and care was put into each one. This video does not have enough views!
Thank you! So informative. I can watch or listen to her talk about her craft for hours.
"I don't want a Black History Month. Black history is American history." Morgan Freeman
Yes and should teach it throughout the year.
@@Lindamorena it should be taught like any other part of american history
This is well timed, got Coming to America 2 trailer & mourning Chadwick’s passing 🕊 🖤
My respect. I was always surprised on the designs of these beautiful costumes
Her attetention to detail is masterful!
So glad she won an Oscar 😘😁😎🙏🏿👐🏾
Outstandingly gifted and skilled.
This was a phenomenal interview - great insight !
I’m surprised there aren’t more views and comments on this video!
She had a vid with VF last year, so there may be a lot of people who don’t realize it’s a new video. I actually came here without knowing it was new, I was just here to rewatch the first one.
Maybe cuz they just put bhm instead of whm
It’s because no one cares

Me too this is very interesting
Now I’m finna be lookin at the credits. Because most movies I’m lookin at the the outfits !! Like who dressed them!!!
Ms.Ruth ! You the truth !! For the black panther !
How does this not have more views?
She’s phenomenal ‼️
So inspiring & iconic ✨
Incredible attention to detail
Thank you for your success on Black Panther. You are a wonderful Costume Designer.
For many actors, the costuming is a huge part of how they get in character. Movies are a medium where each tiny detail reinforces every other part. For world class pictures, every detail has to be so right.
Thanks for this insight
Amazing job girl!!!
Black girl magic 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
I need to see Selma. I haven't seen that one yet. I'll watch it with my daughters this month.

Cool name.

A true genius.
Just asking for a friend...why was the embroidery (for Coming To America) done in India? Does skilled embroidery not exist in any African country?
@Bella Rose ...I know it does (my comment was tongue in cheek🙄🤭)
Global Economy. The studio decision for keeping all aspects under budget, essentially extremely cheap sweat shop labor.
Why the dislikes
I gonna say the same thing, she amazing at her works and creations.
