- I just got the Roland FA-06 Keyboard and figured out two handy methods for getting one button access to your favorite patches.
Method 1 uses the favorites buttons right under the view screen.
Method 2 uses Roland's Studio Set feature and takes advantage of the big sample pads.

Thanks! You explained the Favorites function better than anybody.
Thanks. Very helpful. I haven't touched my FA06 in a few years because I moved to bass full time. My old band has a reunion harbor cruise where I'll play some keys. Instead of dragging my basic (but big) Yamaha board there, I think your video has shown me how to use studio sets to 'normalize' volumes of various sounds and, more importantly, store them for pad use at the gig.
It's early morning here but I look forward to doing this today thanks to your video not only showing the steps but also the reasoning and workarounds.
Great information here!! Thank you so much!
Thanks so much Richie! You are the first one to show how to save sounds for a setlist, using the studio settings--just brilliant! I'm so thrilled to finally have this info! Btw, the new album is awesome--well worth the wait!😊🎹🎼
Hey Richie! Here I am 4 years after you made this and I recently got a Fantom 06. Sort of the FA06 great grand son. It was interesting to see the evolution from the FA to the Fantom and how similar they are. You I’m sure would pick up how a Fantom 06 works in minutes and be amazed how much more there is and it weighs 14lbs! Great video sir.
Extremely useful! Thanks a ton!🙂
I have an FA-08 and didn't know about the favorites feature. But I like using the Studio Sets to quickly pull in the sounds I need. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this helpful video! Appreciate it :)
This keyboard is amazing thanks
Great video!
I thought the pads could be used for patch changes...thanks for the verification. The FA is my next synth purchase, hope to have one by next year this month.
Good work
Studio sets are great - you can also build a whole show’s worth of patches (with multiple splits, layers etc.) in order, and then move through them with the inc / dec buttons. Reckon you could also send midi triggers from the Helix! I’m about to open a community theatre production with about 50 different sounds, and move through them with a non-latching footswitch (as in your recent HX Stomp video)
Roland should pay you for that. Thanks!
You can also save the Studio Sets to Favourites!
With this video I understood everything. I have a few additional questions. Grand piano - sample pad 1, Ep - sample pad2 etc .... What if I need to mix two sounds in one studio Set? For example, press sample pad 3 to play the grand piano + Ep. How to save this on sample pad 3? Or, for example, put Strings on track 4, then press sample pad 5 to play the piano + Strings (Part 1 + part 4), then press sample pad 6 and to play Ep + Strings (Part 2 + Part 4). And so on ...
Im not a keyboard player but I still enjoyed this tutorial.
helpful
I buy a FA-06 ...but i'm not a Keyboarder, i play Guitar....i buy the FA while the FA have a "Sequencer" like you know it from any daw.
I know the notes of the keys and i can play a little bit ...
The thing is, when you compose a song, you don't must be a perfect "Keyboarder", ...the most Songs have a simple Melody with some
notes that any person can play with a little bit practice... in my opinion...yes it were better when you understand the most you do, haha...!
What i wanna say is, its a great tool for Guitarist too to compose a song with dozend of dozends Instruments direct under your fingertips.
When you edit the Guitar tone...you get great "Metal Guitars" out of that box...for Rhythem ....and so you have all importend Instruments
you need ...with a complete "Midi-DAW" inside the FA !
Its a great Working Horse! I Love it!
This is such a helpful video! Thank you! It gets exactly to my questions. One question though: how would save that studio set you made?
gooooooooooooood
Why not click the enter button when you are on a category? I had an FA08 and like looking for a piano I selected the piano button and then hit enter and it gives you a full screen different piano sounds.
This is exactly how I do it.
Hi, good video. Basic stuff. But Could you assign to pads short sequences/patterns that have been recorded in the sequencer ?
thank you! but a quest: how can i create a drum sequence-beats and activate them when i play? background loop play..., could you explain please?
If I remember it right, channel 16 in the studio set is linked to the samples
Ah! Thank you!
How do you get one sample over the whole keyboard?
I'm looking at the FA06 but held back because of a midi velocity problem; if I'm not mistaken the black keys have a +15 midi velocity over the white keys. Apparently to compensate for the shorter lever action. Did you ever experience this as a problem @Richie Castellano
Got all the same gear. FA-06, Helix and Variax Standard. Whats next....GR55?
I just bought mine.. I love it.
Anybody know, how to turn down rhythm Volumes...? Thanks. 🙂
Go to track 10 and navigate to volume usually set to 100...and turn it down
Is it possible to make the keyboard always power up with the Part Select activated for the Pad? I just got an FA-08 for live performance and choose this model especially for the quick sound change feature but it seems to always go back to the Sample Pad setting every time it's powered off....
Ok there is one problem or one question: how can I save a edited sound on my Fa07. When I save my list of sounds in the Studio Kit mode as in this video mentioned, it won’t save my editing like for example (pitch editing on sounds or EQ). Can somebody help me here? Thanks 🙏🏾
How do I turn off MFX permanently? I want to turn off the Delay on a voice/sound and save it but it doesn’t save. When I switch to a different favorite then try to back, the delay comes back. Any tips on that?
I have a sudden problem with it memoryzing any studioset setting after shutting down, even though it was saved by writing :( it happend after transportation so I asume something happened to the hardware
sir where did you get the sound of you brass tone
I cant find underwater sound ? can you help
