Prince was musical genius and probably the greatest guitarist of all time. His lyrics were beyond anything we had ever heard in the 80’s, and almost prophetic. Give a listen to Sometimes It Snows in April. He died April 21, 2016.

@@OG_Wakanobi - as a studio musician, I respectfully disagree. I know all the ways to add bass electronically, but I read an interview with Prince where he said he tried several things that didn’t sound good to him, so he released it without bass of any kind. Listen for yourself - the only instrument hitting in that register is the kick drum.
“How can you just leave me standing alone in a world so cold” was basically about his father kicking him out of the house at age 12 and not letting him come back. It’s really sad. He went to live with Andre Cymones family
Prince wasn't just a performer he was a musical genius. He wrote sons for multiple singers. He wrote for the bangles, bananarama, just to name a few. He wrote " nothing compares to you"
A great line, I also love " Maybe I,m just too demanding, maybe I,m just like my father too bol,. Maybe I,m just like my mother, she,s never satisfied, why do we scream at each other this is what it sounds like when doves cry "🕊🕊. These lines could resonate with some families [ too deep maybe???} BYE.
"When Doves Cry" video is undoubted one of the great videos that defined 80s culture and fashion. Watching your reactions is a true treat; those days were a fantastic time that has reached out in some way that still influences music to this day. I was a freshman in high school when Purple Rain came out, and watching the world lite up in Purple was an unforgettable time. The first time I ever saw Prince perform live was in the mid-90s in San Jose, California; he jammed on stage that night with Carlos Santana and in this amphitheater, and let me tell you, THEY BOUGHT DOWN THE HOUSE THAT NIGHT!!! Back in my hometown of Columbus, Ohio, I saw him several more times, and in one of the afterparties, he walked right past me and talked about SWAG!
Saw Prince debut his Purple Rain album at his club First Avenue in Mpls.! He's the most underrated musician play playing 23 different instruments. He shreds the guitar.
I'm happy to say that I am a lifelong Prince fan. I had the immense pleasure of seeing him 10 times in concert and every single time was better than the last. Is still breaks my heart that he is not around anymore and that there's a big void in music because of it. I listen to him every single day. He saved my life many times. I'm so glad that you are delving into one of the greatest albums to probably ever come out of music. I would also say check out his Sign of the Times album that entire album from beginning to ending is a masterpiece and has some of the best songs ever.
My first ever concert, I was in my 40s, was Prince. I saw him during his Musicology tour in Chicago. BEST. EXPERIENCE. EVER!! That is when I learned there is Prince on CD/Radio and there is Prince in concert and the two are not the same!
I'd like to point out that Prince recorded this in an EVENING. The director of PURPLE RAIN wanted some music for a downtrodden part of the movie, Prince said no problem, and recorded this by himself at Sunset Sound. The guitars, keys, vocal overdubs, and drum programming are all him. The track is so basic he left out the bass because he decided the song worked without it.
Sometimes the first take is the best take, because it's the purest expression of the idea. Don't take that from me (can't play a note): I heard Richard Thompson say the same thing on the radio just the other night.

Not always the nicest guy to work with, though. He's left studio musicians he's worked with traumatized. (Sinead O'Connor for one) There's many. many stories. Lisa from Prince's band The Revolution has spoken about it. That could be said, though for many artistic geniuses. Steve Jobs comes to mind so I'm not singling him out. I Just think we should remember people as they were, the good and the bad.
I have to disagree about him being underrated. It was a well known fact for everyone in the music industry that Prince was one of the all time great guitarists. I've never heard anyone say differently.
Prince is EVERYTHING! That man had it all! I saw him 3 times in concert. He never disappointed. I was at Paisley Park last weekend. It was so AMAZING! I held it together until I got into the Purple Rain room, that’s where the tears started to flow. I can’t wait to go back.
I saw him in Miami during the Purple Rain Tour where, while he was there, the Orange Bowl was temporarily called the Purple Bowl just for him. Best concert I've EVER been to!
In the 80's I was a roadie and I saw hundreds of concerts and the one that stood head and shoulders above anything was Prince doing the Purple Rain Tour, I just sat there open mouthed for Three and a half hours, he was stunning. Check out Manic Monday by the Bangles, Prince wrote that as well as Nothing compares to you.
I’m jealous of y’all getting to here this for the first time! As I commented on another one of your Prince videos a few minutes ago, I’ve literally heard Prince all my life. All of his music was in heavy rotation in my house throughout the 80s and 90s as I was growing up. To be able to hear these gems for the first time would be amazing!
It was so great living through the 80’s. The music saved my life, I mean that in every way. Hearing the hair bands Is wonderful. Nelson Love and affection is a great song!!
I loved Nelson! Third generation musicians! I practically wore out their first album. 'Only Time Would Tell' would be an awesome song for Rob Squad to react to. Really displays their harmonized voices (they are identical twins so their voices blend perfectly) and piano to boot!

I love every song on this album. Prince had a smile that could light up the world. You're gonna love the movie. I lost count how many times I saw it. Rip Beautiful Man💜
My favorite all time artist-still! No one compares to Prince! 💜💜💜. I saw him live 5x and I was invited onto the stage where Prince put his head to mine and we sang together out of his pistol shaped microphone. Then we did a dance off! I still giggle when I think about it. 💜💜💜
I was in my 20’s the entire 80’s decade, yeah, it was a blast , and the music(like most other decades) was a huge part of it, cool and edgy but classy, so much good music, music, clothes, fun attitudes, we could have fun without some s--- starting (most days and nights) , and most older folks still loved the music and the clothes and everything, just cool fun times. You should watch classic MTV and BET videos, 80’s TVs shows and movies (like Purple Rain), and even classic 80’s tv commercials , that’s the way we did it! The 90’s was rough and raw compared to the 80’s , I didn’t want the 80’s to end!
Give 'U Got The Look' a go. Usually overlooked as reactors just focus in on songs off the 1999 or PR albums, but Sign O' The Times is the album usually side-by-side with Purple Rain when it comes to Prince's greatest album chat.
There is an extended video version where he does dance a little at the end…love this song and I hope you check out the high energy “ Let’s Go Crazy” before you react to the movie.
Yes, you need to listen to the "whole" song. Several of his songs have musical denouements that last for well over a minute, but even the radio stations now (and back then as well) choose to cut the song after he stops singing.
IMO, better to hear Let's Go Crazy for the first time in the context of the scene in the film. It's literally the turning point of the whole story. And the whole set-up with Morris Day leading into it makes the song its self hit hella hard. The build-up is like foreplay for the climax of Let's Go Crazy
You can't help but love Prince, one of the most talented musicians ever!Never to be forgotten ❤Why does no one ever played the extended version of this song.
One of the amazing facts about this song is that it has no bass included in the song. Grew up here in Minnesota and he was our greatest shining Minnesotan star that went dim to soon. I grew up a metal head but always appreciated his gift to the world. Greatest guitarist ever.RIP
I have always been a true rocker, but he is his own music lane. Anyone who can play and write like him deserves the love from all music lovers. Best concerts in my life

You've done three Prince songs, all classics. You have to touch on "1999", "Let's Go Crazy", and "Baby I'm a Star". My personal faves are "Cream" and "Mountains". And... wait... is this an old video? Or did you go back to the rainbow bricks?
One the greatest songs ever written and recorded its a song that just has it all and one of those songs that all musicians and non musicians wished they had been the writer or penned this track oh and a fun fact which Prince thought was so funny was and he took the base out this track and would say no one will believe him and they didn't, but he .did.take it out and kept it out.no base in when doves cry .... incredible.
And the moment when he looks at all the others kind of asking if they wanted to take over the solo part. All of them shook their heads 'no'. That is respect!
Prince is also probably the most underrated guitar player ever. Listen to “While my Guitar gently weeps” at the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Prince just shreds and J you will LOVE IT!!!✌️✌️✌️
When Prince turned this into his record company, they said, “Great demo. When are you going to do the real song?” Prince told them this was it. Too bad that this video faded early, though; there’s a great, wilder finish to the actual track.
Prince's music has literally changed me. He touched on subjects that other artist would dare not touched. He did it boldly, creatively and with no apologies. It makes me cry. He will always be a brilliant genius in my eyes.
I grew up in the 80’s and I remember being so excited hearing all these songs on the radio. I remember waking up in the mornings getting ready for school with the radio on, and just being in the best mood. You are right, music was just so FUN back then. 😊

@6:35, there is an extended version of this video that goes on for at least another 2-3 minutes. Prince and his band just jam out. Also Prince starts showing some seriously fire dances moves in those high heels.
The 80s was a hell of a time to be a music lover, especially with MTV being a channel that focused on music videos. We got to know who the important people were in music as well as up-and-comers and not well-known groups. Love your channel! Looking forward to more reactions!

It amazes me that there are people alive that didn't get to experience the 80s and 90s. Those were the best decades ever, the nostalgia is strong. Though I loved living through them, I now realize that I kinda took them for granted. Seeing young people rave over that time is cool but a bit weird for me.

Edit: An interesting thing about his concert: he told parents who brought their children when he was going to play adult-themed songs, so they could take the kids to the lobby if they wanted. I thought that was very sweet. ❤️
Fun fact, I remember how hot this song was, and in Memphis we have a rock station that all through the late 70’s and 80’s never played anything but rock( Rock 103 Memphis) , and I understood that, and they never played anyone black except for Hendrix , and I understood that, cause who else black played rock. Well , one day in 1984, I flipped on the channel, and yes they just had to , they were playing Prince When Doves Cry! The album version IS the single version. The radio never cut the song off like this.
Exactly
Prince was the most talented performer ever! He sang all vocals and played 27 instruments on his first album. His guitar playing is legendary,
Yay! More Prince. We need more Prince. Anything will do because it’s Prince!

The next song should be "Kiss" it is an iconic song, with a lot of swag. Also, a must listen to is 1999, cream, u got the look, Partyman from the Batman 1988 soundtrack is a fun video, This man was so ahead of his time it was ridiculous.
And their favorite, Tom Jones, ended up doing a cover of Kiss! It’d be a good back-to-back reaction
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And if you want an absolute power-rocker song then listen to Price song "Mountains" 'cause that song hits with a force that could move mountains.
🙌🙌🙌
quite boring picks... lets pretend were married, lady cab driver, irristeble bitch, up town, head, controversy, all the critics love you...the list can be so looooong with songs that are interesting or "swag" ...prince after 87 was actually quite boring for many years but he found back to himself in the end
Prince was musical genius and probably the greatest guitarist of all time. His lyrics were beyond anything we had ever heard in the 80’s, and almost prophetic. Give a listen to Sometimes It Snows in April. He died April 21, 2016.
The Man, the Myth, the Legend. No-one was as accomplished and entertaining as Prince. He would be on the Mt. Rushmore of all time great musicians imho.
The songs will make more sense when you see the movie. He was just too gifted for this world. He will always be on my all-time favorites list. RIP forever!

This song came out when I was a child and I didn’t even know there was a movie until their last Prince reaction! I’m gonna have to check it out.
I actually knew him personally!
Fun fact - this is the only Prince song without a bass line. He tried several things, but didn't care for any of them and left it without bass.
I was JUST trying to think...
Smthng about this song is missing but I forgot what it was.
Well, ok. True. No bass guitar. However, there are many ways add bass. In this instance, it's done with the drums, voice, and keyboards.
The neat thing is the song is so great, you don't even notice the lack of bass. LOL
@@tymj don’t forget, he played all the instruments on the album. 👍🏼
One of the greatest albums ever made. EVERY song is incredible, just like this one.
Absolutely!
Agree completely, such fantastic talent, iconic tracks and talent. I spend hours listening👂 and dancing💃💃 like I have lost my mind BFN.....
This was the number one song in the country in the day I was born in July of '84 . Love this
“How can you just leave me standing alone in a world so cold” was basically about his father kicking him out of the house at age 12 and not letting him come back. It’s really sad. He went to live with Andre Cymones family
The "mother" line is even darker
Prince wasn't just a performer he was a musical genius. He wrote sons for multiple singers. He wrote for the bangles, bananarama, just to name a few. He wrote " nothing compares to you"
Bananarama? Are you sure?
Damn who he bless with a son?
People get distracted by the performances and forget how good of a musician he was.
@@Kai2times 😂
Also Sinead O'Conner, if you've seen her song Since you went away, heart breaking.
"Don't make me chase you, even doves have pride...:
That line always gets to me, for some reason.
Amber: "my mother gave me my love for Prince." Your mother is a good woman 💜
Prince was the epitome of fabulous I would suggest his live version of "Cream" really showed his personality of which he had a great sense of humor
You drunk?
Prince composed, wrote, sang and played all the instruments on this track!! MUSICAL GENIUS!!!
Prince is the ultimate 80s performer (along with MJ). You need to listen to Let's go Crazy and 1999 too!
Yes
..Let's go crazy...I second that...
Not my favorite, but you have to add Madonna to that list.
He held his own against the king office is open Pop. Michael Jackson those 2 were the eighties. Love them
Saw Prince debut his Purple Rain album at his club First Avenue in Mpls.! He's the most underrated musician play playing 23 different instruments. He shreds the guitar.
I was there too!
I saw him in concert on his Purple Rain tour in Atlanta, Ga. Bathtub and all!! Lol. It was incredible!!
Under The Cherry Moon Followed the movie Purple Rain.

Prince could do it all. The 80’s were the best. Had the greatest music!!!!!!
Prince was my first concert back in 1984. Still remember how amazing the concert was
This guy is so underrated as a guitar player. The guy was talented all around.
Y'all miss the 80s I'm sorry
I have to disagree about him being underrated. It was a well known fact for everyone in the music industry that Prince was one of the all time great guitarists. I've never heard anyone say differently.
When Eric Clapton was asked how it felt to be the world's greatest guitar player he said I don't know ask Prince
@@scottcard672 Yup, pretty great confirmation of his guitar skills.
Prince played 27 different instruments. His first album, For You he played every instrument on it
Prince is EVERYTHING! That man had it all! I saw him 3 times in concert. He never disappointed. I was at Paisley Park last weekend. It was so AMAZING! I held it together until I got into the Purple Rain room, that’s where the tears started to flow. I can’t wait to go back.
I saw him twice. Once pre Purple Rain (in 1981) and once in 2011. He was great both times.
The entire movie soundtrack from PURPLE RAIN is fire 🔥
It was so great living through the 80’s. The music saved my life, I mean that in every way. Hearing the hair bands Is wonderful. Nelson Love and affection is a great song!!
I loved Nelson! Third generation musicians! I practically wore out their first album. 'Only Time Would Tell' would be an awesome song for Rob Squad to react to. Really displays their harmonized voices (they are identical twins so their voices blend perfectly) and piano to boot!
In the 80s we had this & the greats of the 60s & 70s were still widely played. We really had it nice.
One of my sons was really into Nelson. I painted his jeans with the same symbols they had on theirs. Took him to a couple of their concerts.
Nelson was underrated!

Purple Rain is his most iconic song. A little known tune called "Free" is my personal favorite.
The movie purple rain is absolutely iconic as well!!
Purple Rain definitely deserves a reaction.

Give 'U Got The Look' a go. Usually overlooked as reactors just focus in on songs off the 1999 or PR albums, but Sign O' The Times is the album usually side-by-side with Purple Rain when it comes to Prince's greatest album chat.
Sign O'The Times is one of the best albums that is for sure, one other overlooked album is Parade.
There is an extended video version where he does dance a little at the end…love this song and I hope you check out the high energy “ Let’s Go Crazy” before you react to the movie.
Definitely! My niece and her husband were introduced at their wedding reception to Let's go Crazy!!!!
That one is my favorite.
I love prince and his music. R.I.P bro. Prince influence the way that I dance. I grownup with his tunes. He is the most sexiest man I know of
One of the amazing facts about this song is that it has no bass included in the song. Grew up here in Minnesota and he was our greatest shining Minnesotan star that went dim to soon. I grew up a metal head but always appreciated his gift to the world. Greatest guitarist ever.RIP
I'm a metal head also, but, I love Prince.
Metal Head here also, always liked Prince, Erotic City being my favorite, but his musicianship was on another level.
I have always been a true rocker, but he is his own music lane. Anyone who can play and write like him deserves the love from all music lovers. Best concerts in my life
I thought I read that, but can’t really tell listening. The sound is so unique. Thanks for verifying.

You've done three Prince songs, all classics. You have to touch on "1999", "Let's Go Crazy", and "Baby I'm a Star". My personal faves are "Cream" and "Mountains". And... wait... is this an old video? Or did you go back to the rainbow bricks?

Mountains is such a little known gem. The entire PARADE album is one of my all time favs.
"Cream" for sure. And the video is crazy!

One the greatest songs ever written and recorded its a song that just has it all and one of those songs that all musicians and non musicians wished they had been the writer or penned this track oh and a fun fact which Prince thought was so funny was and he took the base out this track and would say no one will believe him and they didn't, but he .did.take it out and kept it out.no base in when doves cry .... incredible.

When Prince turned this into his record company, they said, “Great demo. When are you going to do the real song?” Prince told them this was it. Too bad that this video faded early, though; there’s a great, wilder finish to the actual track.
Sure is...I love the extended version
The record company asked where the bass was. Prince said, "There is no bass!"
The record company said great demo in response to listening to the Dirty mind album back in 1980.
Prince's music has literally changed me. He touched on subjects that other artist would dare not touched. He did it boldly, creatively and with no apologies. It makes me cry. He will always be a brilliant genius in my eyes.

One of my ALL TIME favorites. The whole album is why the 80's looked the way it did.
I wish I could go back to the 80's.
If you want 80’s keyboard, listen to “I Ran” by Flock of Seagulls.
Yea that is literally the 80s
I'd give this song another listen, because even though FOS are perceived as a 'keyboard' band the guitar has centre stage in most of their songs.
I'd prefer their song "Wishing" over "I Ran" though!
Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran was very..... experimental with the keyboards and synths.....
I'm glad that I got to see A Flock of Seagulls perform "I Ran" at the first Edge-Fest that took place in the University of Dayton Arena parking lot. 103.9 THE EDGE
I can tell both of U would've snapped right into our 70s and 80s era. Nobody puts it down like Prince!
All he had to do was stand there and the sensuality flowed from him. He moves with beautiful, masculine grace. And, yes, Amber, he IS everything!
For female Friday, please try Melissa Etheridge,"I'm the only one" Adele,"Rolling in the Deep" you'll fall in love with both!

Prince IS everything!! Purple Rain (movie and album) came out in the summer between my junior and senior year of high school. I was already a fan from his earlier work, but Purple Rain was a masterpiece. I LIVED for Prince! He possessed such incredible charisma, magnetism, coolness, beauty, and otherworldly musical prowess that it was mesmerizing to watch him. @@willdwyer6782 saw Prince live twice back in the day. He could shred with the best...I think perhaps it kinda got overshadowed because of everything else he could do. It amazes me that there are people alive that didn't get to experience the 80s and 90s. Those were the best decades ever, the nostalgia is strong. Fellow Oklahoman here (Tulsa area) You guys crack me up. I just turned 42 yesterday. Every time a song from the 80's comes on I am automatically back in my childhood. Most if not all 80's is my jam. I grew up on Prince, MJ, Madonna, Cindy, Kenny Loggins...all of the 80's greats. I honestly can't stand most of the music today. If Doc Brown showed up in a Delorian at my house I would be headed back to the 80's. I remember hearing When Doves Cry on the radio. If you haven’t yet, check out his Super Bowl performance and the ensemble performance of While My Guitar Gently Weeps from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
Edit: An interesting thing about his concert: he told parents who brought their children when he was going to play adult-themed songs, so they could take the kids to the lobby if they wanted. I thought that was very sweet. ❤️
A truly, rare & ORIGINAL Talent. Sometimes special people seem to have it ALL. Prince was one of those people.

Fun fact, I remember how hot this song was, and in Memphis we have a rock station that all through the late 70’s and 80’s never played anything but rock( Rock 103 Memphis) , and I understood that, and they never played anyone black except for Hendrix , and I understood that, cause who else black played rock.
