Hey guys, in this video I discuss my 07k swap thoughts. I've been saying that if my FSI needs to come out again then it won't be going back in. What do you guys think I should do? fazed.yt
You are owed a running car assembled with a new/bored unscored block, new pistons and also new cams by that shop! Let the shop fix it up and foot the bill, including the work the head needs. The thoughts in your own head are trying to take you down a pathway of further setbacks and stress where you won't have the car running for such an extra long time
I hear ya. It would be nice not to worry about the r for a little while and have them fix it. The long term plan for this car was always a 2.5 though. I'm still thinking over both options.
Figured this is what you were planning. PLEASE document the process for this swap. I will pay money for a comprehensive guide. I'd try and reach out to some of these European companies who are fluent with the swap but don't have anything in English. Essentially maybe you could be a sponsored stateside middleman for the project. Hope to see this get rolling. Hell, Frank probably has good info on a swap and you could work with him on the project as well. At LKQ you can find O7ks for pretty cheap, why not build a block for boost and start from there? Edit: DM me if you decide to sell the turbo parts. Might be interested in some other stuff also.
Hey Rob, I'll try my luck contacting a few different companies tonight. Thanks for the ideas. I would build a block for boost straight away but the costs are holding me back. I'll let you know about the FSI parts if I do decide to pull the 07k trigger 👍🏻 edit: actually, building the block for boost wouldn't be terribly expensive so maybe I would do that right away but save the head work for later
Yesterday I was sold on it but today I'm feeling discouraged because of the costs and how long my car will be down. I'm also kinda bummed I wouldn't be putting this FSI setup to use. I'm hoping to make the final decision this week
@@FAZEDTom I would have the 2.0 fixed and be able to drive the car again and piece together a 2.5 swap slowly on the side which would give you a lot of future content
Agreed with D-Dubz....have the shop put you right to get it running without putting out any more cash for now. This is a sad tale...hope it works out. You are staying very cool with all of this. My MK7 GTI turbo just died...that's nothing compared to this.
Hey Horatio, they're fixing the car up for me 😁 oh man, I mean it sucks your turbo went bad, but it also means it's time for an EQT or Littco 🤘🏻🤘🏻 the MK7 is such an amazing platform I'm jealous haha
i wanted to turbo my stock golf 2.5 n/a and had the idea to just buy a motor separate from mine and build it outside of the car until one weekend swap it in. buy 2x 2.5L if you want something in there for now, and build the other 2.5L on the side for over a longer period of time when you collect the moneys. 2.5L Motors arnt that expensive from what ive seen on the market, could range from $200-600. i subscribed! im looking forward to seeing this be born
Thanks brother! I coincidentally just found a 2.5 swapped mk6r for sale and bought it 😍😁 I'll still do a 2.5 swap of my own and more fun projects so stay tuned man! So are you still planning on boosting your golf?
TT-RS 2.5T swap would be nice, but i think you'll need the ECU for it as well plus all the wiring. It's gonna be bonkers $$$$. But yeah that would be awesome if you could get sponsorships.
@@FAZEDTom I know C2 Motorsport had a turbo kit for the Rabbit 2.5l but not sure if they're still available. There's a guy on IG who has a BT rabbit I follow @adamstrunk. He's got a cool build, maybe you can ask him questions about his car.
@@FAZEDTom I'm thinking maybe just getting a new CRZ engine at VW and just rebuild it. Maybe the cost would be much less I'm thinking 🤔...but either way I hope you get it back again on the road. 👍
Make sure you look very closely at inspection laws in your state. It can be very difficult to pass inspection with a swapped engine on a car built in the last decade to 15 years, but that is completely dependent on state laws, and they vary a LOT between states. Some states require the engine to be newer than the car, etc. Any state that has OBD connection during inspection is one I'd be especially wary of. At least make sure you do your research first. United Motorsport is a company that I would highly recommend talking to. As far as the engine choice, if you're building the engine completely, start with an NA 2.5. If you want a more plug and play swap, the 2.5 from the TTRS. Good luck man, whichever road you choose!
That's an area I've overlooked, thank you for bringing this up Jonathan. Yes I'd build an NA 2.5 because the DAZA engines are completely out of my price range
You could swap the engine and wiring from the Golf and then swap the R stuff onto a BPY block and stick it in the Golf. Then you would minimize custom wiring although that's a ton of work. I've been searching for something to yank the motor out to build for my car for a while.
I definitely think that would work, but you're right it would be a ton of work. I'm thinking I could make my own harness combining the golf r and rabbit harnesses within just a couple days
Hey, are you selling the intake from the 2.5? I've been lookin' for one that style. I guess they don't make them n e more. Great content by the way! I'm trying to do a mild build my self. Lmk.
no need to make harnesses lol, all you need is the engine, factory mk6 2.5 wiring harness, mk6 2.5 ecu. The 2.5 harness will go right where your current one is, along with the ECU. Engine is also drop in. Also like I said before, your trans also bolts right up, along with clutch and flywheel, axles, ect.
I was thinking the mk6 2.5 harness would be plug and play but I couldn't get confirmation anywhere, thanks man! I did know the trans bolts up but supposedly it needs some shaving. And yeah the clutch/flywheel bolts up on the 6 bolt flywheels, and you can get extra holes drilled out if you use the 8 bolt flywheel. The mk6 ecu seems like the best route, just needs an immo delete. I think I'm on that Facebook group but I haven't checked it in a long time so thank you. I'll check ebay too thanks man 👌🏻👌🏻
FAZED I just did a 6 speed swap on a 2.5, it does need some grinding down on the top of the bell housing (the tallest part) so it doesn’t hit the timing cover on the engine and crack it, but it’s very minimal shaving (5mm or 1/8”) and takes 5 minutes haha
Sell everything as a job lot including the spare golf, should bring you close enough to buy the engine, money back for the terrible work they did to your engine, at least this is what I'd do but as we spoke before, prices are rocket high where you live.
@@FAZEDTom what I mean by job lot is selling everything car related that you won't use for your golf/build, selling spare engine parts, your spare golf withg the 2.5 nasp, everything you can't use to build or buy your 2.5 tfsi. I can get a ttrs engine over here for 5k upwards which isn't a lot in all honesty, the only thing is, I'm not smart enough to be making looms and fabricating but at least you'll have the heart of it all.
Oh gosh I can't get a ttrs engine for less than $15k over here, unless you're talking about 8p? Not sure but haven't checked the prices on them. I actually found a solution, I just need to find a place to do the swap because my parents are no longer cool with me working on it here 😬

I think the biggest thing holding me back from this route is that it involved me not having the car for 4 more months while it's at the shop (and not even being able to look at it 😢 haha). But yeah I'm considering it
it would be interesting to see it, out of curiosity how much is a na 2.5 their? and if the cost isnt much different would you not consider a 2.5t from the 8p rs3 or the 8v pre facelift rs3 2.5t?
also what about one of these? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-TTRS-2-5-8J-GEARBOX-MANUAL-RARE-LNA-CODE-LOW-MILEAGE-TT-RS-RS3/293329177003?hash=item444bc809ab:g:1fYAAOSwe2JdzG2n
The NA 2.5 is approximately $600 but obviously needs a lot of work to make it strong enough for a big turbo. The rs3 ttrs engine is insanely expensive and super rare to find. Also, I'm not sure how strong the mk2 ttrs trans is but I thought it still needed upgraded gears for 700-800hp. I'm going to look further into that though bc the transmission is one of the costliest parts of this build.
Nick Martinez that would be very hard to achieve on this platform lol. At minimum you’re going to spend 15k. No way you can do it for 8k unless it was NA and just looked like it was tossed in with no aesthetics in mind
I'm being indecisive as f*#k haha. Do you think I should have the shop fix the FSI while I build an 07k on the side? Or go straight to the 07k and try to snag a built trans from the shop instead?
@@FAZEDTom then get a TT. It's quattro, same engine as the MK7 and with just IS38 turbo upgrade you can do 3.5 sec 0-60. I fucking love my TT to death, only car i would switch for would be the TT-RS/RS3
