Interesting that you find this system simple. Imagine trying to do all that with a 30 second shot clock... The simplest system is using the 2 to 1 track lines and then adjusting for how you want to hit the ball. Because everything you do different than soft rolling the object ball, using the 2 to 1 track lines, changes where you want to aim. (IE. hitting harder, using follow or draw, etc). Also the table conditions (and ball conditions) change where you want to aim. The Aramith tournament balls play different than the cheap poly-resin balls. The cheap balls get dirtier faster and have more cling (which affects how they react on the rails). Diamond tables with the extra bouncy rails change the angle the balls come off the rail and make them bank tighter. If you want to bank well, you need to find a good level practice table and practice shooting soft rolling banks using the 2 to 1 track lines. Then practice learning how much you need to adjust for hitting medium, then for hard. Then teach yourself how much to adjust for using soft, medium, and hard with top spin, then do the same with draw. This will give you a feel on how to adjust for different shots, because you don't just need to bank the ball into the pocket; you also need to play shape on your next ball. You should also practice using running and reverse English. Once you have your base lines and how much to adjust. You can then try different tables and teach yourself how to adjust for different rail conditions. No matter what you do, you will want to make sure you use good balls to practice with; because unbalanced balls will roll off, even if the table is perfectly balanced.

Just be aware that this approach (angle of incidence equals angle of reflection) only works if the object ball has natural roll (no spin--no English nor follow/draw spin) and is also traveling at the equilibrium speed, which is determined by a combination of the felt friction and the rail manufacturer.
Thanks for the vid. I'm playing in Argentina and they got some really funky rules here. Opponent get two shots if you scratch and two shots if you don't hit your ball, and two shots if you sink one of their balls. Also, the 8 ball has to go into the pocket where your last ball drops. You ever hear of such a thing? Pool in Bizarro world.
I've been doing bank shots relatively successfully for the past few years on a tip I learned. It's so basic that I tell it to people often now. Try this, imagine a full length mirror on the side of the table that you are hitting the bank off to make the ball in the opposite side pocket. Then imagine the mirror image of the desired pocket in that imaginary mirror, (it's like looking at the bar table next to the pool table where my beer sits). Then I just shoot it at the desired speed and viola! I think sometimes people look at me and see that I'm not lining anything up, not measuring and looking way past the actual pool table at some imaginary spot in the air and thinking I'm drunk! It surprisingly works a lot of the time. Give it a try!

As a very low level player with a weird brain, I’ve been fairly good at 2+ rail kicks and banks, but have seriously struggled with single rails. I can honestly say that this video has truly helped me improve that significantly! Even used it PERFECTLY when I recently was challenged to a game of “bank 8” and executed it flawlessly, leaving everyone in shock! Thank you so much!
Low level players struggle more with single rail banks and kicks because their cue ball striking isn't as pure. Usually caused by poor stroke mechanics. Adding a little unintended English will really throw off one rail kicks/banks... whereas multi-rail kicks/banks usually involve using intentional english. A pre-shot routine, proper stance, proper timing, and practice will all lead to a better stroke and more accurate cue ball striking. I like to get my lower skill level players to practice their stroke by laying an empty water/beer bottle down on the table, then I get them to practice stroking into the bottle opening at various bridge lengths.

Find the contact point, how ever you do, (ghost ball or whatever) for ME it helps after I've found ghost ball, I picture the cue ball sliding off the contact point.

There’s a lot that’s great about this video starting with the instruction and set up, the camera angles, the knowledge. Fantastic! I grew up playing pool in my grandfathers basement then the bowling alley and pool halls down the street from me. I was addicted and played so much it made my father a mad, but it paid off.
Now THIS is my kind of English class! My cue ball control is horrible. Back in high school I cut class all the time and headed to a friends pool hall. I loved to play, but like I said, after the shot the cue ball usually ends up in a not so optimistic position for the next ball. I still have A LOT to learn! Thanks for the video!

Just because I know a lot of APA players watch your channel, I want to add that leaving your cue on the table untouched is not a foul in the APA. I don't recommend it because you should always maintain control of cue when around the table so that you don't bump balls, but it is not a foul unless it bumps the cue ball in a non ball in hand situation. That said, awesome video, I did not know this bank alignment system. I learned something today! Thanks!
Best system I have ever learned. Worked. First try. Hasn't failed yet. So much better than any other system. Very accurate and deadly if measured precisely. No more guessing like with the mirror system. I know exactly where I need to hit now
I learned the mirror system from a pro and it was hard. You have to compensate the thickness of the rails when visualizing. The system shown here is leagues better and is more consistent.
First system I learned when I was a kid as well. Got it from an old Minnesota fats book. 35 years later I still use it. Easiest by far. Works great with kick shots as well.

Nice system, I use a three line system with fairly good success. The way I was taught (using aiming for a guide) Line up the object ball to the pocket you wish, See your line (i can see it once i establish it), once you can see it, you can't unsee it Then line up your cue ball to the opposite pocket, you'll create a second line in your mind. Both lines should be crossed if you aimed up the right pockets. Ok the third line will point from the intersect point to the rail you need to hit to make this shot. From there it's up to you, medium as said in the vid works for this method, but might have to adjust for obstructions as outlined in the vid. I have gotten to a point where I don't need to actually aim it up anymore, I can see the lines just by standing behind the ball I'm aiming. This is a cool system and a great vid, I'll be trying it out against my system. Who knows, might be better
I have been shooting stick for 30 yrs. I have never understood the bank shots and or the movement/transfer of movement to the balls like I do atm! Amazing explanation and visual! Using dividends of 2 can help know the angles required for banking & kicking, as shown here. Yet, creating a number system within the diamonds will supply a player know the half point on a rail required for banking or kicking. It deletes multiple reference lines by helping a player see a line made from dividing a number by 2. As well, it provides an easier process when banking or kicking at an end rail.
I’m a novice recreational player and I had no idea how to bank or use the diamonds. I just figured “angle in = angle out.” Thank you for making this tutorial.
You didn't see me do more long rail bank shots manually because I typically am unable to hold onto my cue while having the tip of my cue on the opposite short rail, so usually I'll just visualize the 4 reference lines when banking the length of the table.
I think the key to any pool instruction videos is to recreate what you see then use the system on a variety of different situations. Its really impossible for anyone to show you every possible combination you could think of. But each person should test what it can and can't do on the table.... if that makes any sense.
I've always measured my distance from object ball to chosen pocket an cut in half on opposite rail. 2 diamonds on closest rail, one diamond on opposing rail . But I can see this being handy too!! Thanks buddy, keep doing what you 👍

its a simple triangular system, and its some of the worst systems to use.

I will make a 3 rail and even a 5 rail 7 times out of 10 and miss a long way 1 rail bank every time

It's a rule state in the WPA Rules, but I've only seen it enforced like 2-3 times in my lifetime.
