- I test and compare 4 different Light Metallic Blue plastic model lacquer spray paints from Tamiya and Testors. Which should I use for my Tamiya Honda S2000 model kit?
I test:
Tamiya Pearl Light Blue (TS-58)
www.scalehobby...
Tamiya Brilliant Blue (TS-44)
www.scalehobby...
Tamiya Light Metallic Blue (TS-54)
www.scalehobby...
Testors Icy Blue (1844)
www.scalehobby...
You can buy any of these from www.scalehobbyist.com
What should I test and compare next?
Finally a video that actually shows the colors and their different shades! Just picked up a Kotobukiya Megaman X model kit for Christmas and am looking for the right shades of metallic blue for me. Appreciate the video!
Thank you for the compliment. Which blues will you use for your Megaman X? Happy new year!
Mega man is blue and cyan 💙
@@weekendhobbyistmaybe testors icy blue for the light blue parts of his helmet, Tamiya light metallic blue for the rest of his armor parts, and maybe coral blue for the under suit. Sorry I replied so late for this lol
Wonderful that he did all the testing for us. But OMG! His delivery in the commentary was slower than the paint drying.
Good idea to test on cheap spoons. subbed!
Thanks and thank you for the sub 😊👍
Been using testers spray paint on my gunpla for years that ice blue looks wicked over that black but light base color looks amazing with the lightning white they offer put the white over it and it's like a metallic powder blue
like that TS54 over the light grey nice light blue color
This is extremely helpful, thank you!! About to paint my new gunpla kit!
Glad it was helpful!
Prototypical colors 1st and 3 rd ones. Favorite, Icy blue on white spoon. My experience with Testors. Undependable results. Always something. Might be just me.
I’ve always had issues with Testors too. Those enamels are definitely day and night compared to today’s lacquers.
Thank you for this! I wanted analog Tamia X-13 and loking your video.
Glad I could help!
Thank you for this! Tamiya TS-58 should be a very close match to the factory color on my 1/24 scale Honda S600. (maybe with gray primer tho)
You’re welcome. Sounds like a very cool kit! Fujimi?
@@weekendhobbyist It's actually a Tamiya kit.
I'm really glad I found your video. I was trying to decide which blue to use on my Axial Ryft body panels to match the blue of the RC4WD King shocks.
Thanks for watching. Which Blue do you like best?
@@weekendhobbyist I'm going with the light blue metallic.

SO INSTEAD OF USUNG AIRBRUSH...WE CAN USE THESE SPRAYS
I love how quick and convenient spray cans are.
@@weekendhobbyist ease of use indeed
Thanks for a useful video I like tamiya bright blue
was about to do a spiderman 2099 custom figure and wanted to see how they would look def going with testors blue
thank you subbed and liked 😊😊❤❤
I’m glad my video helped ☺️. Thanks for the like and sub!
Im just looking for good blue for my yolopark optimus, appreciate it!
Can you please try out the greens next
My next color is going to be Aluminum
And Stainless steel paints. I can do greens when I build my Land Rover.
Great job !! Thank you for this video
Thank you for watching 🙂
master, I apologize, I would kindly need the reference acronym or color code for the Testors lacquer spray you use in this video, many thanks 🎯🥇
@@c.gallagher9348 Hi 👋. It is 1844MT.
The Testors over black for sure
Thanks for watching and the comment! I think I’ll do it! I’ll use it for my S2000! Prob buy an additional can just in case.
Hi should I still use a seperate primer if the testor is an all in one primer?
Thanks for subscribing and the comment. I don’t think you have to but if you want a different hue you might want to use a darker or lighter primer as a base coat. It also depends on what color the plastic is. When in doubt do a spray test first.
Damn - one year late to the video and one week late after selecting paint for the latest build! That TS-58 looks like a nice blue tint silver - especially over black primer.
Oops 🙊. What are you painting?
@@weekendhobbyist flying saucer from The Invaders - just ordered a can of Tamiya Aluminium but really wanted a blue tint to it.....
Maybe also get a can of transparent blue paint? TS-72.
Looking for the silver blue used on the 64 SS Nova. I think I’ll find one here.
Hi, yeah I think one of these should work! Great color BTW.
Thinking the Testors icy blue over the gray primer is pretty on point.
@@weekendhobbyist went with icy blue on a white primer. Thanks for your example. This 64 Nova is going to be a drag slot car(haven’t had one since I was a kid). Excited to see how it turns out.
Good choice! I might go for Icy blue too.
@@weekendhobbyist after doing some test, I’m finding the icy blue will look very close to the 64 Chevy silver blue with a silver base coat. 🤙🏽
what's up friend. I need your help... what happens is that I have a figure which is painted metallic blue but in one of the areas it is badly painted and I would like to fix it, but I don't know what tone would work for it. Could you help me give me an idea of what brand or shade would suit her?
You might have to repaint the whole figure so it all matches.
너무 감사해요!🎉❤
On TS-54 light blue metallic can it be topcoated or it will ruin the metallic effect? Thanks
Like a clear coat? If so I think that should be fine. 👍
@@weekendhobbyist yah. Clear coat, sorry forgot to mention. I'm planning on buying a satin to avoid too much gloss. Thanks
Testor on black is sick
Agreed!
Pearl Light Blue matches the light blue used to simulate headlights in Transformers toys.
how about the eyes, such as the really nice bright light blue eyes of Netflix and VNR Optimus?
@@reyonXIII Unfortunately I've never seen either so I can't say. The pearl blue though might also appear too light, almost white under certain lighting conditions as eyes are usually recessed parts, so it would be best to use the darkest/most saturated one shown in the video...
Can we use normal black spray and spray blue on it? Can we do that.
I think if its the same paint brand/type, it should work. But of course do a test on a spoon first.
Ok
Where is the greens?
One day when I build my Range Rover kit. 👍
which one looks like a king shocks blue? I wanna paint my rc shocks to resemble a real trophy truck
Hi
I will have to take another look at my spoons. I don’t know King shocks well but can guess after seeing images online. I’ll get back to you.
oh no need it’s okay I already got a paint which looked pretty close to it but thanks for trying to help!
Any one know if the testors is nitrocellulose based lacquer?
Sorry I’m not sure.
