You didn't let anyone down Dom.
Your channel is about inspiring people, and to be honest, I think the most inspiring people are those that get knocked down with setbacks like this and retain a positive attitude and focus on what they CAN DO, not what they can't. People that overcome setbacks are even more inspiring than those that just bang out good results non-stop. It's shows true character and resilience.
Injuries are part of the sport we chose. All the best athletes have dealt with injuries and other setbacks. There are SO many Olympians that are missing out on Paris due to injury. So dont feel like you are alone in this.
We are lucky that bodies are designed to heal, and you will be back running again. This is just part of your journey and will give you even greater appreciation once you hit the roads again. 😊

I remember you calling my name near the northern end of the Southport bridge. Thank you for the support around 35km in! I’ve no idea how this video came up in my UA-cam suggested! First marathon ever and ended on 3:43. I couldn’t be any happier. You’ll KILL IT next year no doubt.

We are so proud of your preparation and build. It is so frustrating to get injured when you feel like all your training is on point. I have had frequent calf injuries - bloody gastroc muscles! You didn’t let anyone down and we are sad and disappointed with you. You are a great sportsman for going to the marathon to cheer others on when you could not run yourself. ❤ We will now join you in your road to recovery.

We had a great time on the Gold Coast, I was heading for a 3:30 time for the marathon but I hit a wall at 30km and just made the sub 4 hours, but it’s still a pb compared to my 1st marathon in Sydney lol

Ive absolutely loved this whole series and going on the journey with you whilst also training for GCM...
I'm gutted for you obviously - but you have time on your side. You'll recover well and come back stronger no doubt.
My own journey? Missed the important time goal Ive been chasing for 5 years by 26 seconds, and missed an "age grade PB" by a mere 5 seconds. Sometimes the marathon just chews us up and spits us out.
I'll be back.... as will you.
(and yeah - seriously dude.... no apologies. There isnt anyone being let down here! Its good to have stories that arent all sunshine and rainbows. Its the existence of the lows that make the highs so much more meaningful!)

I've been dealing with a stress fracture injuries since December last year when I was trying to get back in shape for a sub 3 marathon. Took 3 weeks off then started at 10 mpw only up'ing it 1-2 miles each week, at only around 30 miles per week (still a lot less than I ran pre-injury) suddenly the same stress fracture broke again mid April. My advise is as much as you want to run even if it's a little bit and the pain "doesn't feel that bad" be wary of increasing mileage for a at least 2-3 months even if it's slowly, you don't want to end up re-fracturing and having a borderline chronic fracture like me. Take a good amount of time of no running and focus on cross training when you can. I'm still only doing 10-15 mpw at the moment but have a huge amount of water running and biking to supplement less miles on the ground, I've maintained and lately even improved my running fitness for multiple months so far with very little running on the ground.
Doing a lot of deep pool running, keeping up your nutrition (Get plenty of calcium, Vit C,K, protein, magnesium, etc), will help you maintain fitness while you recover from your fracture without having to worry about putting any load on your foot. Not going to lie it does take a lot of mentality to just run in a pool for hours at a time and can be a bit boring at times, when you can biking or just normal swimming and other cross training no-bearing or low-bearing activities when you are ready (such as biking) can help mix it up.
Even Ingebrigtsen ran very little in the past few months due to injury and did a bunch of pool running and elliptical, and still came in strong in June as if he wasn't injured. You may be injured now but it doesn't mean you will lose fitness if you play it right. After a few months you don't want to jump right into your mileage you had before, ease into it and slowly phase out cross training. Personally I may keep water running in my routine for awhile so I can have the benefit of a high weekly mileage without the stress it has on the body.
Your training may look different for a bit, but you can keep your fitness even through the stress fracture! Best of luck and I hope you have a faster recovery then me :)
