Hello, thank you for all of your videos. I was just laid off from my job, looking for a career change, and medical coding sounds like something I am very interested in. In the program under community college, you will take two classes on medical terminology, and not sure how much medical terminology you will learn under workforce development. If you were me, which would you enroll in? I can begin classes next month. Also, do you think an entry-level medical record or coder employer will hire me if I enroll in classes? Thank you for the information -MJ

@@charth777 I think they do. I’ve been going through job listings forever. Most want 1-3 years experience with coding or in a health environment. You mentioned there may be employers that have you turn your camera on to make sure you're at your home office, not caring for young children...does this mean this line of work wouldn't be ideal for stay at home moms of littles?
Medical coding requires meeting specific productivity and accuracy standards, which might be challenging while actively caring for little ones. While it's a rewarding field, it often demands undivided attention to detail, which can be tough with the unpredictability of young children around. That said, there are indeed opportunities out there that offer more flexibility and might better suit the stay-at-home mom lifestyle. It's all about finding the right fit for you and your unique situation. Best of luck in your search for the perfect opportunity!

That’s my fear-spend all the time & money to get certified, & then you can’t find a job bc they want at least 1-3 years experience & an A/A degree & blah blah blah.

Hey, how are you? I'm going to my local community college, and they only offer AHIMA. My question is when I finish school for the state exam can I take CPC or do I have to take the CCS exam?
Many people with Asperger’s find that the structured and detail-oriented nature of medical coding can be a great fit. It’s all about finding a role that plays to your strengths, and this might be just the right match for you.
It sounds like there are a ton of codes. Does that mean you have to have a great memory for this career? I'm already 40 am I too old to start? Thank you!

I am wondering what percentage of billers and coders work from home? My experience has been that this is something available only after a proven track record has been established. What are your thoughts?
According to the most recent AAPC Salary Survey, 55% of coders work from home. www.aapc.com/tools/medical-coding-salary-survey/#IsWorkingfromHomeHeretoStay
Choosing between online courses and on-site training really boils down to your personal learning style and schedule. Online courses offer great flexibility and a wide variety of options, perfect for those with tight schedules or who prefer learning at their own pace. On the other hand, on-site training provides a more hands-on learning experience and immediate feedback from instructors, which can be invaluable for certain subjects. Consider what environment you thrive in, how much interaction you prefer, and the nature of the content you're learning. Both have their unique advantages, so think about what aligns best with your goals and lifestyle!

I’m applying for two colleges. For coding. One school particular has an associates and then there is the certificate. Would i be better off getting associates for the long term. I have a question about certification credentials. AAPC and AHIMA seem to be the preferred certification routes for various organizations, however through my school we take certification exams through the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA). I just passed the exam, but am wondering what the difference between certifications is and which organizations recognize AMCA certification? I definitely plan on expanding my certification credential down the line after gaining experience, but nothing I see regarding jobs for medical coding positions recognize the AMCA credential. Did I waste my time going through a year long program to get a generic certification that is not recognized or sought after?

Yes, you must know how to type the same as any office job. There is no requirement to type a certain amount of words per minute and that fast typing wouldn't be considered important by employers.

So helpful!
Thank you so much! So helpful
great video, thank you
I did go back. They gave me ten places to apply. Nine out of ten places did not get back. One place did give me a interview but another candidate was chosen, I immediately went on the website and they still have the job posted, I’m so annoyed but I’m not giving up
That’s my fear-spend all the time & money to get certified, & then you can’t find a job bc they want at least 1-3 years experience & an A/A degree & blah blah blah.

Will you be offering another masterclass?
Do you need to know medical terminology first, before going into medical billing/coding?
Thanks
Yes, you need to know medical terminology for medical coding.
@@ContempoCoding Thank you for that info.
Are the books you showed coding books for jobs or like text books for learning codes?
I have Asperger’s syndrome. Do you think this is something I might be able to do?
Many people with Asperger’s find that the structured and detail-oriented nature of medical coding can be a great fit. It’s all about finding a role that plays to your strengths, and this might be just the right match for you.
Hi! I am going to self study I need to know about books i need to buy ICD-10- cm expert for hospital book or ICD-10-cm expert ?
It sounds like there are a ton of codes. Does that mean you have to have a great memory for this career? I'm already 40 am I too old to start? Thank you!
There is no memorization of codes.
Cons:
1. CEUs
2. Paying for annual membership forever :(

I have my diploma for medical billing and coding back in 2012, how can I get back into this
After 7 classes at Clark state community college I will be eligable to test for Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). This certificate is fully embedded in the Health Information Technology Departmental Certificateas well as the Medical Office Administration associate degree. Will I still be eligable for testing/certification through the AAPC?
Yes, there's no requirements to test for any of the AAPC exams. Anyone can take them.

@@ContempoCoding Could you work as a medical coder from home part time?
What should be the preference online course or on site ?

Nothing wasted at all, keep looking for jobs and in the meantime look into AAPC and AHIMA and sit for either CPC or CCA. Good Luck!
You can also test for aapc as well without taking their courses from what I know :)

Do you have to know how to type ?? Type words per minute!?
Yes, you must know how to type the same as any office job. There is no requirement to type a certain amount of words per minute and that fast typing wouldn't be considered important by employers.

how much is for this book? and if you can buy pdf version? and is there any way to contact with you?
There are several books used in coding and shown in this video. CPT, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS will be about $200-$300 and the training manual $100-$200. There are no free legal pdf versions, eBook prices are about the same. As you can imagine, I receive a lot of requests for contact information for many different needs, but I'm afraid I don't have the time to offer that right now. I'm currently working full-time on my UA-cam channel and other projects, and I don't have the bandwidth to take on any additional commitments.
