    I feel like most people's "formative cinema" comes from the age of 13-19 where they find what moves them and it sticks with them forever. Some swaps will come later but those special picks stick.
    Seeing Gabriel Chung say, "Revenge of the Sith" is the perfect example of a generational gap between Millennials and Gen Z. God bless that honest choice.

    • @ToxicTurtleIsMad
      @ToxicTurtleIsMad 6 місяців тому

      Not true at all. 13-19 is a very young age where you wont be able to distinguish real art. Most movies are not art and most people are stupid as fuck so you are right practically.

      Yes and no. I think your theory applies to music tastes perfectly. The bands I loved as a teenager I still love today. With movies (and books) however my tastes have matured considerably. My teenage self would’ve hated IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE and DAYS OF HEAVEN and BARRY LYNDON, for example. Way too sophisticated for my little brain.

    There are many good movies that are hard to re-watch, because they hinge on a twist or big spectacle. Great one time watch but fail at other things. Which is why these are really great:
    Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
    Eyes Wide Shut
    The Seven Samurai
    Amadeus
    Disney's Pinocchio
    Silent Hill
    If we ignore importance of being able to re-watch the movies, then these stand out:
    The Passion of the Christ
    Prometheus
    Gladiator
    The Ring
    Once Were Warriors
    Best directors, Stanley Kubrick, Akira Kurosawa, Ridley Scott.
