Yes, Bea could give those withering looks at Rose (and she didn't like Rose much either, and Rose knew it) but they were all professionals and superb performers. They gave "Ma" (Estelle Getty) all the nasty, suggestive lines, because old ladies are supposed to be senile, have sharp tongues, be intolerant and say exactly what they thought! So it worked out well for some funny scenes. A good show that I never got to see in real time, but am enjoying it now, some 30+ years later! RIP to Bea, Rue and Estelle, and we wish Betty well at age 96!

Now, I believe I understand why she decided to bow out of the series at seven yrs. Who knows when she found out about her “health diagnosis ” & prognosis for her future. Doctors may have told her to cut back the hectic working schedule she had been working for twenty yrs. It was time for her to enjoy a bit of her life, while the quality of her life remained good. No long suffering from a degenerative illness, or slowly losing who she was and all her memories until in the end she can't remember how to swallow and breathe from dementia / Alzheimer's. she has more than earned the right to go in her sleep peacefully and with her dignity and vitality remaining perfectly intact right up to that very last breathe. She will be truly missed just as we all are missing Rue, Estelle and Bea; there will never be another show like there's if t.v. survives another 1,000,000 years! R.I.P. ladies; we love you all
rae L.: Stop being a liar.....you don't know every line in every episode. Don't exaggerate because nobody believes that lie.
rae L.: It's as though you've already acknowledged and accepted her death and speak of the morbid possibilities on her passing...and she's still alive!
A CHOSEN VESSEL: Have you ever heard the phrase: "A figure of speech"?
Iost my BFF 4 years ago shed tell me all the time v thank you for being a friend. We would watch the Golden Girls together. Now Bea gone I do love Betty white. Rip Estelle rue and Bea. 😢😘
A lovely comment. We need more kind people in the world. Unfortunately the internet has also allowed many vicious people a voice. 😕
I love when Bea Arthur played Cher in The Golden Girls episode in An Illegitimate Concern.
Star of TV & film. That's not all. She also appeared on stage, notably with Angela Lansbury in MAME.
Bea you will live forever in the hearts of your fans. I’m in my 20’s and my young niece loves you
I loved, Bea Author! What a delightfully beautiful woman!
You wouldn't have thought her and Angela Lansbury would be such good friends..but they were.
Now we just lost the last one. R.I.P to our golden girls
I have the full series of Golden Girls as well as the spin off The Golden Palace. I binge watch both regularly, just can't get enough of it.
I watch it every night. Love my girls. They keep me company.
I'll be watching with you shame not much on TV worth watching any more. Cable is joke. Not worth price they ask.
Dear God, thank you for the gift you called Bea Author! She was my favorite and made me laugh on days I couldn't get out of bed! She and the other Golden Girls were my pretend grandmothers! I always wished I had a grandmother like these women. Love you always! I hope to see you again....
Amen 💯 ❤️ 💔
Beatrice Arthur died twelve years ago today. April 25, 2021 of Lung Cancer.
Today Bea Arthur would have been 99 years old
What about the episode of Golden Palace where she was in the 2 part story line... Now that episode made me cry with joy seeing them together. I miss the 3 that are with the Good Lord now and when Betty goes to join them someday it will be a long running series in Heaven with lots of laughs.
god, she was marvelous...
Wonderful woman, rest in peace.
I loved Bea since she played Maude so sad she passed
I'm crying with tears
The queen of sitcom!

Hard to believe it's been 10 yrs since she passed. Wow!
I now realize as I grow old, I become more and more like Dorothy 😅
Old? You look in your twenties!

So sad when she said she thought she didn't deserve a memorial
I love all 4 my golden girls equally. Bea was so special.
Bea was to funny.....her health was a shock
As well as hearing she'd passed it was said she didn't want a big fuss about her health. She was much loved will be missed. 😭
