  • How to make a #wildlife #garden log pile #logpile. Also know as a dead wood garden habitat.
Half bury some of the #logs.
The #soil contains micro-organisms which promote and accelerate #decay. Decay equals life because the #mould and #bacteria are the start of the food chain.

Morning Vicky, thank you. I like to imagine at this time of year all the wildlife going in there for shelter. Mark

@@Vikface1978 and then the wildlife will notice the odd man who keeps standing around talking to himself 😂

That log pile is going to provide a great food source and habitat for lots of creatures Mark. Thanks for sharing

Love this! I make them too. Yes, so important to partially bury especially also for the grubs of many beetles!

Hi Daniela. Thank you. I have a twig pile and a log pile and a huge pile of other trimmings. All these different environments. Brilliant for wildlife 😊

Maybe cardboard over some of the logs under the ground too. Breaks down quickly but worms love cardboard.

Really good idea this. I'm thinking of doing a worm/compost pile. Cardboard will definitely be one of the ingredients! Mark

I've got a very small courtyard that backs onto a wild bank with wild budleias as tall as trees. Watched your video on pruning budleias and I'm going to get on that in the next few days, but I like how big they are so I'm not going to cut them down too much, just encourage the growth at the bottom branches again. Might build one of these below at the bottom of the bank and try and make a miniature version of what you're doing but with my mammoth budleias!

I think even a small one will have a very beneficial effect. I also have a twig pile as well as a log pile. It just provides organic matter with crevices and hiding places. Thanks for watching. Mark

I try not to throw away wood wider than my forearm. I’ve made a log pile in a quiet corner of the garden. A few large trees were taken down before I realised how important dead wood is and I regret not keeping the logs as there’s plenty of space.

Yes. And whenever i disturb the pile i see hundreds of insects and bugs. I also have a twig pile nearby too. Lots of varieties of environments. Your garden sounds like a haven for wildlife. Thank you. Mark
