Torn paper is no good for bedding in outside hog houses, it'll get wet & stay wet, rescues use it because the hogs are kept indoors! Dust extracted barley straw is what you want to be using as bedding in hog houses in your garden. Got 4 Riverside Woodcraft hog houses in the garden, two feeding stations, had hoglets born in one of the houses last year, that was a first but hopefully not the last, was wonderful seeing them grow up on all the ring camera footage, got loads of cameras out there to watch them & while the hogs are absent I'm seeing wood mouse activity & even saw a female moving her pups the other night, apparently they can have young in the winter if it's very mild.
Hi there wow sounds like u have some lovely spikey friend s in your garden then just wanted to say to u it's people like you that give me hope in this messed up world thank you 👍🏻🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔xx
I feel a volunteer coming on. If I can use all the space I have for 2023, then maybe this will make me a better gardener. The plan is to have a meadow garden! 😊
I’m building a dead hedge and was thinking of incorporating a hedgehog house in the dead hedge. It’ll be in a corner by a pretty big pond which is quiet. Do you think it’s a good idea?
Hi Patrick. Yes I think that will be fine. You probably know this, but make sure it is not located where the pond may overflow and also make sure there is a way of escape if a hedgehog should fall in the water. Good luck with it 😊
Hoping the ‘Insectivorous’ food referred to that can be bought over the counter and fed to birds is NOT Mealworms or Calciworms as these cause Metabolic Bone Disease in Hedgehogs.
In Lanzarote we have erizo morunos and european hedgehogs. We feed them cat food. Unfortunately, they tend to have mange. What is the treatment? Thanks
Hi I'm sorry, I do not know the answer to mange. Possibly google it or email a hedgehog charity. I apoligise. I hope the hedgehogs get better soon. Mark
What a wonderful man! And he is teaching kids to respect animals too. Bless his soul!
So glad you found this. It will the basis of the design for my hedgehog house tomorrow 😊
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK Hooray! Looking forward ^^

Superb ! Very professional, and really interesting. Who doesn't love a hedgehog, especially chubby ones. 😍
They remind me of me. Chubby and prickly lol. Thanks Helen xxx
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK Prickly maybe, like a stickleback. You're no Chubster, especially with all that dogging !
@@helenanders5532 excuse me?
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK sorry love, chubby fingers , bad eyesight 🤣🤣🤣 I meant digging, not going to mention what you get up to at the weekend 😉

Wonderful news. I have actually made a couple of videos on the wildflower meadow. I hope you enjoy them. Best wishes. Mark
I'll be getting an old tire to build a pond in the future 😊
Great idea. Recycling a tyre is very eco friendly too! Mark
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK The local garages are always chucking them away 🤷🏿♂️
We are lucky enough to have a hedgehog visiting our garden, some videos on my page. Don't think they have used our hedgehog house though sadly.
Thank you. They are extremely rare now aren't they? You are fortunate to see them. I will have a look at your videos. Mark

I'm pretty sure it will be safe. But I appreciate you drawing attention to the potential problem and hope others read this. Mark 🙏

@@MarksHouseandGardenUK thank you for replying. I use some medicine for cats and just prepare the dose for their body weight. Hedgehogs are awesome!!
