Easy Way to Make Wildlife Habitat Piles

- An easy way to make wildlife habitat piles. I use wood waste from my Woodmizer LT15 sawmill. I could make firewood out of this material but I already have too much. I will show the easy way to turn this waste into wildlife habitat. Habitat piles like this have many cavities that will likely be used by lizards, frogs, salamanders, scorpions, mice, and many other small animals. One end of it has a larger den that could be used by foxes, raccoons, or other larger animals.
A bug and wildlife hotel has lots of merit. That's real conservation; making the leavings of forest management earn their keep even after processing.
A nice, healthy fiber dump in the woods for wildlife. That makes sense 🤪👍
We also learned today that you don't like mice getting into your stuff. 😁👍
I wondered if anyone would pick up on my subtle hints that I don’t like mice getting into my stuff. 😁
We leave our tree tops where they fall. The wildlife love the tops for cover, food and bedding. Old growth forest's, beautiful as they are, sustain very little wildlife.
I do the same thing with a lot of ours that I don’t burn. I’ve two good piles going right now down in our woods next to a creek .
In one pile I noticed rabbit
Tracks coming out from under it. That’s the easy way… now let’s see the hard way 😂😂
Thanks for sharing
I was trying to avoid the hard way. But maybe one day the easy way won’t work and I will show the hard way.
Downright neighborly of you Michael to create a one-stop Chow house for the larger carnivores, though for the reptiles it’s more like the Hotel of doom! 🇺🇸
One animals chow house is another animals Hotel of doom. Not quite the Disney version of nature but more realistic.
Looks like there’s been a bear tearing into that log looking for grubs
You are probably right, I wouldn’t put it past them.
Love that truck!!
It has been a good one.
And Newts! Don't forget the Newts! (Not to be confused with Salamanders, Skinks, or "Jake-no-shoulders"...)
Seriously, well done sir; as a long-time 'bio-den' builder and preacher of such, I commend your efforts, to convert the masses.
Another 'likeroo' from your neighbour to the North.
I did forget the newts. I have been reminded several times of the newts in recent years and I still forget the newts, to not call them salamanders.
Well, there you go! When those little amphibians get frisky, snap a few photos and send them to OSU as "Newtie Pictures."@@WilsonForestLands
I like your presentation style and your outlook. Keep it up
Thank you for the encouragement.
Good use of excess wood!
Yes and there may be a fine line between a good use of excess of wood and just being lazy and dumping wood because you don’t want to deal with it. 😁
@@WilsonForestLands Our sawmill property has three pits on it dug by the prior owner, guess what they are getting filled back in with 😁
Great job!! I've dumped some wood not good enough for firewood!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Thanks for the reminder, time for a swig of water.
I call my piles Rabbit Condos.... Well Dun!
Thanks, that’s a good name for them. I have seen some more deliberately stacked piles that would make good condos. I may do some of those.
Good job
👍
We call that fly tipping in the uk ! :) Nobody use biomass power generation in your area ?
I'll bet the mice don't like you either................Michael.
Good idea for the off-cuts though.
I am not sure why they wouldn’t like me. After all the peanut butter I have fed them on spring loaded platters.
Same here.
"Riparian" . . . now there's a word you don't hear very often, at least outside of academic circles.
We use it a lot in forestry. Especially since forsters and wildlife government people are very sensitive about what you do in the riparian areas.
We have a secret stash of culvert pipe too...
Always good to have a stash of culverts when you have land.
7.3L just pushing that trailer at an idle.
Transfer case in low range, plenty of torque at idle. Of my trucks it’s my favorite for maneuvering trailers.
You really don't like mice!
I wouldn’t mind them so much if they had some manners. Chewing on people’s things and leaving excrement on and in them is rather rude in my opinion.
That's using your head. Think about the wildlife. I've done that before myself
Excellent, hopefully your wildlife appreciated it.
@@WilsonForestLands they do.
