      I know the guy who built this, he sent the package over to the US all the way from Germany about a month ago. It arrived there pretty quickly but then the delivery slowed to a crawl. The current postal dispute is to blame.
      He is eagerly awaiting all the feedback from the people he sent the packages to. It just may take a while for him to refine the thing and getting it sent to the US.

    This kinda thing Is amazing. a beltfed magazine sounds like the best of all world's - quick reloads, ability to top off, and extreme ammo density. Amazing. Edit: How could I forget about lack of reloads! A long enough belt means almost no reloads if needed.

    Service information: You can remove the front bit covering the mag well on a FDL-3 to get it to take [any number] drum mags.
    As such this contraption of glorious belt-fedness should work with an FDL-3 as well. Reduce the rate of fire on the FDL to better match the feed speed, and you should be set.

      I get the feeling it might have issues feeding like that (since it looks like it would result in the belt having to be yanked up and over the gearbox). But I'm not positive, and would love to see if I'm wrong.
      Maybe it would work if you had an ammo box mounted on top of the blaster, so the belt is just pulled downward? Goofy, but might result in a more reliable system.

    This feels much like an airsoft hi cap mag feed system, which also can't fully empty the last BBs. I don't see that as an issue - it is just a trade off for higher capacity.
    I bet you could make a clockwork wound version similar to a hi cap mag, too, but the spring would probably be strong enough to cause jams and I doubt it is worth it.
    Actually, i wonder if you could make a box fed mag work like an airsoft autowinder...

    We need a mirrored version of this, so we can plug them both into either side of a modified Rhinofire. Have the belts feed through a couple of those cable guides you used on Tyr (for the cosmetic ammo belt) but attached to either side of a backpack that holds twin rolls of chain.

    The sunlight issue could be solved by using IR LEDs and a TSOP infrared sensor. They come with a fixed frequency (the TSOP4436 for example uses 36 kHz) and they "see" the infrared light only if it flickers in that fixed frequency (which could be archieved with a microcontroller or a ne555 timer ic). It would need a few more components (and an LDO converter since the TSOP runs only at 2.5V-5.5V) but it makes the design more reliable in direct sunlight. I used a similar approach in my RapidStrike to detect an empty magazine.

    The main solution I can think of for finishing off the remaining darts in the device would require having a dummy link at the end of the chain, like how Vulcan belts have the green dummy link at the beginning. The magazine would need a spring-loaded follower(extension spring, most likely), like you said, held off or away from the belt (possibly in a connected track on the ejecting side of the device?). The dummy link would have a sear coming up that would hit a release on its way out of the magazine assembly, releasing the follower to finish feeding the remaining darts.

    Looks like the creator of this has really made any chain fed blaster obsolete now. Taking a 6 round mag and placing it on a power house. In the future, if possible, to shrink it down and give it more stability in the electronics. Put this with a few of The Titan's 50 round mags and you really be in business. Speaking of which, always try The Titan and see how it does. Thank you Xavier, for taking the time in creating this video and sharing this with everyone. Thank you again and stay safe.

    If you were to add 8 or so 3d printed dud rounds chained together and attached to the belt you could force all of the darts through without changing the feeding mechanism and still ejecting the whole belt.

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  4 роки тому +1

      ...I don't think that would do what you think it would do. You would just end up with 8 or so dud rounds in the mag section. Which you would have to then remove before you could feed another belt in or they would jam or break your blaster. Plus they would take up part of the belt so you still would get a full belts wirth of ammo.

  • @jimmusthegrimmace

    i know you say you wouldn't trust it in an HvZ but i seriously think that it has an application. ive had an idea for mobile "route holders" or places where something like this can be set up with a two man crew on some rolling luggage like a mobile supply station. the belt fed blaster would be mounted to the top of it and once the crew reaches the destination, they set up the blaster and basically secure that spot and the surrounding area against zeds. it would give safe routes for recon to travel along, depending on how its mobile mounted, maybe hunters could wheel one (probably not) but the main use i thought of was as a large quartermaster (ammo supplyman) weapon. give one of these units to said supplyman, send him and an infantry to a point on the map and use that as a move spot for humans. they can then stop at those points and resupply with more ammo, maybe snacks/water and be safe(ish)
    i dubbed them "M.I.S.S.U.S" units (as in "gotta bring the missus" as a play on words)
    M-mobile
    I-immediate
    S-self
    S-supply
    U-utility
    S-station
    the trick now is finding molle luggage to store stuff in for cheap

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  2 роки тому +2

      I dig it. Obviously Proton Packs would be able to hold far more ammo, be more reliable, and be far more mobile, but they would not be nearly as cool as your set up! :D

    • @jimmusthegrimmace
      @jimmusthegrimmace 2 роки тому +1

      @@CaptainXavier only thing i disagree with is the storage aspect. Proton packs are worn on the back where other supplies would be kept. Great for a less support based unit in this regard but the supplyman loadout i was thinking of carries a pack (probably a molle backpack) that has organized ammo, magazines, depending on if its in a squad of people they know, food and medicine, and miscellany for a squad. 2k rounds in a backpack for a proton pack is incredible offense but no supply.
      The original idea for a missus unit was using dartzone belt feeders since its a smaller blaster but these belts on the belt feeding magazine are even smaller and can hold more.

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  4 роки тому +1

      Why? That would eliminate the best feature. The ability to use it in almost any blaster. For the feed mech to be linked to the trigger you would have to adjust the timing of the feed to perfectly match the speed of the pusher. By using a sensor it automatically feeds at the same rate as the pusher.

    • @HeavyTanker-vx4oq
      @HeavyTanker-vx4oq 4 роки тому +1

      Captain Xavier you have a excellent point, didn't think about the versatility of it in its current setup. Would be useful on something like the new Titan, or Eir obviously. Could make something like a M249 with its ability to take belts and magazines.

    • @themagitechie9955
      @themagitechie9955 4 роки тому

      @@CaptainXavier I think it would be a better idea to use a self contained feed switch on the end of a cable that you could stick onto the blaster using it in some way, kinda like that modular afterburner you made from the Phoenix's internals. the feeder might have a control knob on the side to adjust the speed to the specific blaster's fire rate. the separate switch would act as an override for the sensor on top.
      The feeder itself could probably do with some way to add some spring loading on the darts, maybe some kind of spring loaded feeding wheel like in a drum mag with the spring being wound up by a motor every time a dart was placed in it from the belt? then the feeder just senses the wheel rotating as the dart on top is used.
      I gotta say, neither idea seems particularly practical though. this is a fantastic concept, but it seems implementation is really hard.

      Captain Xavier mainly weight and size, but I see your point, larger motor would eliminate any worries about torque. If I was going big I would go with something like a Banebots 550, but that’s just because I’m familiar with that motor and it offers a good price for its size as well as compatibility with many gearbox systems.

    There's got to be a way you could make that magazine fully mechanical. This would help with feeding speed.

    I suggest testing it in the elite titan since that’s already a minigun belt fed would be useful in it

    Really the only thing that needs improvement is feeding speed and feeding consistency. Perhaps looking into belt design to make it fold better in both directions, but I realize that it would be a massive pain to tweak the belt geometry. It fed in fits and starts in the hyperfire, Fast enough to almost keep up for the first few shots, but got really hiccup-y towards the end. Pretty sure it's just the mechanism not keeping up, but might be a sensor issue. Not sure. Overall though, this product is just too cool.
