Made this tonight, here in Los Angeles. Can't believe I forgot to add the cucumber (!) Still, tasted amazing esp. with weather hovering around 100 degrees these days. Served with pita bread and hummus, baba ganoush, falafel and tzaziki - a healthy, tasty meal with minimal cooking.
This is almost like I make it only no oil so it's healthy! My dressing is a teaspoon of white miso paste with just enough hot water melt it, lemon juice, garlic, rice wine vinegar, a teaspoon of maple syrup and voila! Great video!
Wow I’ve never seen so many butt hurt 😭 anti Israeli comments in my life. All food ingredients, cuisines and recipes have traveled the world and thank GOD. Keep your political views and comments to yourselves and just enjoy the video and if you can’t just leave.
In the end, all we need is the celebration of food and contrasts of tastes it doesn’t matter where it comes from! Let’s just call it couscous, shall we?!👍🏾
Average Betty Great recipe! Will definitely give this one a try. Thanks! "If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it must be a ... grain". ;)
As much as it amusing to see these butthurt Arabs comments, this ingredient is called "Ptitim" and not couscous. It was invented in the previous century, around the establishment of Israel, as a cheap replacement for rice which was expensive in that period.
It was labelled Israeli couscous by an American chef and it stuck, so when you buy it in north America, it's called Israeli couscous. It's marketing, I don't get why people are so offended. It wouldn't sell here as ptitim, but Israeli couscous makes sense to most westerners as they can pronounce it so it stuck around.
Beside the fact that couscous is well known to all the cultures that are on the Mediterranean sea (so you guys that Israel is a culture thieves can shut your mouth), because it was spread by the Arabs and we in Sicily have made part of our culinary culture (with areas having it with fish, others use it for desserts), what I would like to comment on is how big those grain of couscous are and how similar they are to small balls. Real couscous is more "rough", since it's basically the flour mixed with the water and have it make it lumps, but small ones. Additionally it's not cooked like that, but you just add hot water and let it soak it in. More like ramen noodles. We in Sicily use fish stock, or just a syrup of water and sugar for the sweet stuff.
Who told you this is really couscous? While north african Jews (over a million in Israel) brought couscous to Israel and it is well known there, Ptitim are more popular among the people & children and was created in Israel by the company of Osem. Only people out side of Israel call it couscous while the real name of it is Ptitim which is a paste that has are a lot of other shapes like couscous/berkoukes, rice (the original ptitim shape), hearts, stars, rings, dinosaurs and more... 😥

The jewish couscous is a different dish to the muslim's dish. for example the jewish Moroccan prepared it differently than the Muslim Moroccans, when the jews moved to Israel they brought their food with them. No Culture stealing here
How to make an Israeli recipe 1. Ask your grand mother about her favourite dish back home in Russia (or Tunisia, France, Poland, Yemen etc.) 2. Steal a Palestinian home (you need a kitchen, don't you?) 2. Prepare youe grand-mother's dish 3. Re-brand it as 'Israeli'
Ptitim is a recent/modern food. Nothing to to with Yemen or France. Arabians or Palestinian arabs maybe eat something similar to Ptitim, but ptitim were created buy Osem originally with a rice shape.

All the bags are labelled Israeli couscous here. The name came from a chef from New York. The call it ptitim in Israel, but the american chef called it Israeli couscous because that's what it was for him and it stuck. Through some research I found the difference between pearl couscous and Israeli couscous. They are not made in the same process and not the same ingredients. The Israeli couscous was created in the 50s during a rice shortage. The shape of Israeli couscous is what is commonly sold here in North America. That said, Pearl couscous may be what many are used too but they are in fact different. I believe pearl couscous has been around for ages, while ptitim is recent.
We did not steal anything, half the population of Israel are Jews whose families fled from the Arab countries after some of them were murdered and expelled ... The Arabs were the ones who helped establish the State of Israel. If you did not frighten the Jews and make them come to Israel, Apparently today there was no State of Israel, so thank you Sorry for the bad english , byeee

Yum! I'd eat that for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's the tomatoes that appeals to me the most. I love tomatoes more than any other human being.

Very tasty and pretty easy to make. My only feedback is that the video doesn't show the use of much olive oil but the written recipe uses a lot more.
