Perhaps the Buddhist view on mind patterns is appropriate - thoughts and traits are neither bad nor good, but neutral, it is our engagement with them that gives them meaning and therefore karma, or cause and effect. Therefore duality of good and bad. All is one, all is God. Forgive each other by seeing this and we transform ourselves and the world.
It's meant to point not to anything outside, but to our own psychology.
