There are many choices for high end race gloves, and there are many variables in what you look for when picking out the best glove to suit your needs. We picked out some of the more popular and what we deemed to be the top gauntlet style race gloves. You may be surprised by which gloves come out on top, and which gloves might be a little disappointing. Motorcycle-glove geek checking in. I have tried all those gloves at least once and reviewed online some of them. Hope to review the rest as we expand our motorcycle-gear review website and channel. Here's my humble opinion and summary for all gloves reviewed by Bryan:
Racer High Speed: superbly comfortable out of the box; it's insane (in an awesome way). Lee is a good guy (Racer USA). Superfabric knuckle armor turns heads!
RS Taichi GP-Evo: super-bulky glove in a GOOD way. Man, do you feel safe in these. They're also surprisingly pliable. One glove I would have in my collection just to ogle and pass on to my grandchildren.
Alpinestars Supertech: superb feedback at another level. Great glove but lacks palm sliders (why A*?!). Not sure if these are a worthwhile improvement over the GP Techs (the Alpinestars GP Techs are one of my all-time favorite MC gloves ever made). I'm not alone with commenting on the lack of palm sliders.
Dainese Full Metal D1: inside finger-seam stitching is best in category. You cannot feel them; this is easier said than done; it requires spot-on quality control. Tight fit, love it. No kangaroo-leather palms can be deemed as a drawback (rest of competitors have them), even though I find tactility in the Full Metal D1 to be on par with rest of competitors.
Held Phantom II: brutally simple and hyper effective. Badass all around and Held are one of the best glove manufacturers in the world. Full stop, end of discussion.
Knox Handroid: the latest MK3 iteration is the best to date. Great glove all around. I gifted it to my girlfriend as a surprise gift and she loves the gloves (it's a generously-sized glove, go down one size despite Knox says otherwise).
Held Titan Evo: the Rambos of motorcycle gloves. Think of anything that you'd love in a hyper-protective motorcycle glove and the Titan Evo have them. You will love the dexterity of the Titan Evos despite the gloves are armored like a tank (in a positive way). They're also super light.

Heroic Racing SP-R Pro v1
Shima VRS-2
Japanese, American and Polish in that order; there had to be a good thing to myself doing the reviews in our channel in 2 languages. I will very likely have at least 2 of these reviewed soon. Also, check out the brand Sweep with their kangaroo-leather gloves called Magnum. You will have never heard of this brand (they're from Finland), but these gloves of theirs look fantastic (kangaroo leather, stingray leather, huge cuffs). I have a pair coming my way together with a second pair for my girlfriend. I could list more high-end gloves (FML GP 5, Ixon RS Pro HP and many more), but I could spend the whole day talking about this topic. Motorcycle-glove geek, indeed!

You ought to include more criticism or at least comparison in your reviews - when everything is "superbly comfortable," "best to date," and "badass" you leave us nothing to distinguish between options. STG and Revzilla are bad about this too.
I know your post was from four years ago, but I searched for the Sweep Magnum gloves and was not able to find it on Sweep Fashion's website or any information on Google. I did see they have a Sweep Stroke Sporty glove that looks interesting, but there is no description at all on their website (nothing on materials used). I was wondering what your thoughts on the Sweep Magnum was, and if you are familiar with the Sweep Stroke Sporty?

First of all nice job and review. I've the Knox Handroid, Dainese Full Metal and Held Evo. The Handroid for the track-safety, the Dainese for the Street safety and feel and recently got the Held Evo that I'm starting to like specially in the Summer in my opinion offers great ventilation for a race glove of that size. Again great review.

I have the titan evo's, when I first got them I ended up not liking them because they rubbed my pinky and ring finger last knuckle in a weird way, but I sat down watching tv for a couple hours a day wearing them just extending my fingers and then squeezing my hand into a ball and by the end of a long weekend they no longer hurt, now I love them!!!

I agree with the no palm sliders on the supertechs. yet they have them on the gp? I wanted the protection of the Knox but don't like the looks or the boa system.

Hey Van can I ask you i posted this on another one of your videos i watched - Love your reviews please keep them coming - however im dying to know your opinions on the daytona voltex and the top end sec evo 3 gp - this is my predicament.
I cant decide between super tech r and the daytona sec evo 3 gp or to buy simply the inner of the daytona sec eve 3 gp and put inside this alpine star super tech r - I heard a lot of the moto gp guys who wear super tech r do this. For me budget is not a problem im simply trying to understand if its worth spending the £1400 on the top spec Daytona am i getting that much more protection over the £379 super tech r or do. Hi Van, great video as usual. It's good to get a different view of the gloves available. Out of the ones I've looked at, I keep going back to the Handroids. I think they look and feel great, but like you said it's the safety is my top priority.

Excellent review
Got in an accident, like most people we throw our hands out and I’m no exception. I would really recommend a glove that has the Knox sliders because it has the second one that goes on the side closest to your thumb. Impacted pretty bad and I had dianese gloves. Protected everywhere else no issue but It’s been almost a year and I’m certain a glove with more protection there would have lessened or prevented it.

I live in Australia and have ordered from STG with good results. I then moved to Detroit briefly, which is only about 40 miles from STG (I think?) but I never made it to Brian's store in person. I regret that. Maybe next time I'm in Detroit. Anyway, I'm looking to replace my old AlpineStars GP Pro gloves, but I've heard that the Quality Control at AlpineStars has gone down noticeably in recent years. I think I'll go with either the Held Titan or Phantom II gloves this time around.

I have the Astars GT tech and Dainese Full Metal. The GP Tech is very similar to the GP Pro R2 with a little more protection. It is much more comfortable than the Full Metal. Full metal protection is very good over the hand and knuckles but is a bit lacking over the ulna (outside of wrist). The little finger hard parts are also rather uncomfortable. I find myself wearing the AStars more. Full metal is the winner in the looks department though.

Personally I have 3 pair of Helds. Phantom GP ones, Warm and Dry, and Titans. Love my Helds and the Phantoms have probably 30k street and track miles. Once broken in they amazing.
Note if you are not accustom to a attached Pinkie. That will cause some discomfort for a little while.

Wow first time heard qbout break in in a review. I have the latest Handroid Know mk Iv and they start to hurt only on my second ride. So it’s like a breakin in periode because the size seems good.
love me some handroids. I've had 4 pairs now with one pair lasting 3 different crashes.. no hand injuries in 6 years.

I'm laying around in my recliner recuperating from a 120mph get off (at the track - I'm no squid). The net result is a broken rib and a fractured 2nd metacarpel (index finger). I've already ordered a replacement helmet, but I'm pausing on ordering gloves. My wife says that I should use the same model (Held Titan EVO) 'cause it could have been worse in a lesser glove. The glove was cut off and I can see no evidence of perforation or distortion, except all those fancy titanium sliders are all scuffed. The Skate panels really did their job - partly worn, but not perforated.
The Helds fit me the best of any glove in 5 decades of riding. Should I forgive them and chaulk it up to one of those injuries that no glove could have avoided?

I give them credit for going in a different direction and love the fingers. Take the same glove, install the appropriate sliders and they will have a great glove. - Van
How would you compare the Full Metal vs the AStar GP Tech? I can see the full metal maybe edging it out a bit, but on Sunday twisties they seem to have almost no ventilation, so I find myself looking at the GP Tech as a possible candidate.
Brian I like the protection in the knox glove but I notice it doesn't have the two fingers joined together like some of the other gloves? What extra protection dose having the two fingers joined together offer? And do you find it a worry that knox glove dosnt have this feature? Thanks John.

i have used handroid for 4 years but now i have to change it because of the wear...this is making me doubting of the protection of this gloves: for example the little hole for air on the left pinky is become much bigger (about 0,5 cm), the black leather on the palm near the sliders is literally falling apart...now i have to choose the new pair: i dont know if taking another pair of handroid (which are comfortable as hell) but seems to be costructively weak or switch to held, dainese or five rxf race...i have to say that ai have the old version of these gloves, maybe the actual is better built i dont know...
When are the handroids gonna be back in stock???

I tried the Knox Handroid, and I really, really, REALLY wanted to love it. I liked the design, I liked the innovation, I liked how solid the leather felt and how it hugged my fingers, I was blown away by the level of protection that it has, and I got it at literally half the current prices because the glove wasn't selling at the shop I got it from. Forget about debating if I should spend a bit more for some of the others that are on this video, because I am in a price range where the competition is the low-end SP8 or SP1/SP2. That is a lot of motivation to force myself to love them, to get over the weaknesses I found. But, I couldn't. And they're going back.
Here's why: the glove just does not feel comfortable. I get rubbing at the pinkie area after extended use, the glove came with multiple loose threads all across both of them, and the design of the thumb is horribly uncomfortable. I ended up having acute pain in my thumb for several days because of the constant resistance that you're "fighting" against in the thumb area. The thumb design simply is not as smooth as the exoskeleton for your fingers. On top of that, there is a significant loss in tactile sensation and smoothness of movement, because the exoskeleton serves to impede your every move. You want a glove that protects you and works with you, but this one does quite the opposite in terms of working with you.
I wanted this glove as a street glove, because I know there is a lot of crap that you can encounter on the streets that you won't face on the track. I've seen people lose parts of their fingers with leather gloves on, the leather shredded like paper. These beef up a lot of the very vulnerable areas, and seemed like they would be great to combat that. But, instead, they're going back.
The stiffness of the Handroid when new is the hurdle with this glove for sure. If you like a lot of feel and do not want to invest a ton of time with the break in the Handroid is not the glove for you. - Brian Van

You could do that and it would help. Remember not to over do it and create a situation where the grip on the bars is compromised if you decide to do so. - Van

Love your reviews and style. I know this is more of a high end speed, haul ass, track day, performance channel but any chance of a commuter/day to day street use compatible with casual office attire buying guide? I ride most days when it's above 28 or so and tend more toward commuting, sport touring, that sort of thing. There just aren't any tracks near me so I'm relegated to close by fun roads and responsible spirited riding. Also really super appreciate your boot reviews with focus on calf size as I'm a mutant.

I am stunned that Alpinestars would start putting stretch fabric in the palm of a high-end glove. I am still running the earlier generation of the GP-Pro. All leather with a (albeit small) palm slider. Hate to see them messing with that.

I had to give away my Knox handroids... I wore them a couple times and both times they wore holes in my pinkies.. literally bleeding blisters on the top of both pinkie knuckles within minutes of riding..

They are not bad products, I feel the stuff we are focused on represents the best options out there when we shot the video. We will have a new one for 2018 for sure. Keep your eyes on the channel for a race suit guide we are working on now. - Van
I think van should do some videos dedicated to give us riders some tips like how to crash on a motorcycle and how to properly ride one I bet he has plenty of information for us.
I have crashed a few bikes for sure man. If anyone ever decides to include "How to crash" in their riding school I have the credentials to teach that class. As for teaching someone how to ride there are others far better suited for that task IMO. - Van
Is it common for new gloves to be slightly on the tight side, leaving marks and imprints on your hands after a ride? I don't think the gloves are tight, they don't feel tight when Im wearing them but my hands get marked up a lot. If I go the next size I lose a lot of control and feel for the bike and become clumsy with my controls. Is this just down to breaking in the leather and stretching the gloves? They are Ixon RS Burn HP's if anyones wondering. Stitching is on the inside rather then outside so thats another factor.
Every model is a little different but it is normall for them to be a little tight when they are new. If they start perfect they will feel a little big after they break in and stretch a bit. Gloves with internal stitching in the fingers will take a little longer to break in as compared to gloves with external seams on the finger. - Van
Thanks, sounds like I made the correct size choice but went with something with a long break-in period. Guess its a matter of wearing them daily and moving my hands in them until they easy up. Great guide even if it wasn't targeted at my level.

This is an older video now. I am able to get a good fit from most models. If you are having issues getting the fit you want the best thing to do is go try some on at a shop that has them in stock. - Van

If you have small to medium, sweaty hands and manipulate the clutch lever a lot, I would suggest against purchasing the Dainese glove. I have gone through 3 or 4 pairs already, each of them lasting only one season. The combination of the sweat drying out the leather and the stretch to reach the lever tore a hole in the glove palm over a short period of time.
I do suggest any Held glove, specifically the Phantom/Titan. I had a pair for street riding with the occasional track day. It lasted nearly 3 years. I washed/rinsed it once per year. After the 2nd rinse/wash it dried out enough to crack at the fingertips. I allowed the gloves to dry overnight and applied leather conditioner to them before fully drying.
I have a pair of Full Metal's three season's old with plenty of riding time on them with no wear issues (I have never washed them as I should either). The difference in size of the glove should be balanced because the clutch lever is adjusted for the rider at the end of the day. Did you do more riding in these as compared to the Held gloves you mentioned in the other comment?
With Held (or any glove really) we have seen and do see folks who ride a lot wear out the leather. This is a result of the sweat breaking them down and all of the contact with the controls. Gloves are a wear item like the tires on your bike which need to be replaced based on wear, not age. Washing the sweat out will help, it will not however reduce the wear from contact which is typically the reason a glove will wear out in only a season. - Van

What gloves from this comparison offer the best ventilation/airflow?
The airflow from each is pretty similar in the end IMO. Each has localized perforation to help manage the sweat. End of the day gauntlet race gloves focus most on protection and poking holes in them does not really help that. - Van

We did not have them in this comparison, it is just not possible to include all of the gloves on the market. The Spidi Carbo Tracks Gloves are excellent, we just shot a product review on them a week ago. I normally wear a 2XL and found the best fit with a 3XL. - Van

The Carbo Tracks offer perforation between the fingers and are designed to flow air under the knuckle protector into the glove. More than enough ventilation in the Carbo Tracks. - Van

More to come my brother. We are dividing them into groups, the next group will have the Dainese 4 Stroke Long. I put the Taichi GP EVO and the Knox Handroid into this group because I feel the price on both should really be higher. - Van
