Great tips within the video for changing the ignition lock. But before you get a locksmith into program the new keys. Place the new ignition key. In to the ignition, and hold the old car key near the ignition. Try and start the car. Should it start. Keep it near the ignition for at least 60 seconds or more. Then you know that the old transponder works. And starts the car. Then you can remove the transponder chip from your old key. And put it into the new key. Hopefully there will be no need for an auto electrician to program your new key.

Had to make replacement keys for an '04 Odyssey and '03 TL. The dealer/locksmith wanted a bunch of money to cut and program new keys.
So I did a bit of research and located this video. I bought key blanks online from a discounted dealer site and then had a locksmith cut the keys. I purchased the Launch x431scan tool directly from the Amazon link in the description. Launch charged $66 bucks each for Acura and Honda software though, so be aware of the possible extra cost there. It took fewer than five minutes to reprogram new keys -- easy to do with the right tools and how-to information.
    Success!!!
Thanks George for the helpful video!

Great Video man... 2024... Just Got a 2024 Launch X431 Immo Elite Pro and send for the generic ignition lock at amazon after much research. Got the ignition lock installed it then realize the replacement has inly 2 Connections: The brown and the green every where in amazon and ebay these ignition lock assemblies are being sold but the problem is the OEM Has 3 connections: A Brown one a Green one and a White one, as shown in this video... But every seller says its compatible from 2007 to 2011 and they all have 2... Even Rock Auto is selling for $400+ a switch for the 2008 CRV with only 2 plugs.... I just came back to your video to see if you had two or three plugs, and sure enough you have 3... Worlds gone mad... Great Video life saver... Now off to hunt for the all illusive 3 Connector Ignition lock assembly...

Fantastic Presentation ! I was attempting to find all actors in the chain for a 08 CRV key stuck in ignition that will not come out: from slamming the shift lever into P , suspecting a D3/P pin switch in the lever quadrant, and finally the PRNDL rotating external switch at the end of the transmission. Never thought of a worn ignition key !! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge . The best I have seen in a long time !!

This is for the people that are reading through the comments to find details and extra opinions on this issue..I have a 2006 honda accord. 260000 original miles on it..and this just happened to me. My car is old had a few oil leaks needs alot of suspension work and I'm deciding to buy a new vehicle. However I want to keep it and drive it until I save enough money for down payment... in my case with this. Um.. so if you leave the key In the ignition after you start it and turn it off. It will continue to turn back on.. if you take the key back out that's when the trouble begins again..so for anyone out there that is struggling like me and just needs to get buy through a few paychecks..leave your key in the ignition..and use your extra key to lock and unlock the doors. Yes you take a chance on your car being broken into. Yes it can be dangerous. But this for a couple months is going to save me alot of money and stress. Thank you so much for your video. I am a woman and may attempt to fix the ignition myself because of your video! Thank u so much! UA-cam really is amazing.

You should also mention to be sure that before you finally tighten the two break-off bolts that you have the assembly centered just right so the bottom latch goes up to lock the steering wheel. You will have to wiggle the assembly until the latch slips into the slot in the bottom of the steering column.

another simple fix for the honda ignition problem that will also save you a couple hundred on the ignition as well as another 150ish from getting a key cut and programmed is to pull the hold ignition out and take out the actual lock cylinder and pull all the tumblers and springs out then reassemble. Any key or screw driver could now be used to turn the car over but you still need the chip key for it to start so its essentially just as secure as before just cheaper to do.

Same thing happened to me. I just pulled out the key ignition switch mechanism. Disassembled it with key In the ignition. A small pin needs to be removed to remove the cylinoid. Any pin sticking up is what causes it to get stuck. Remove the pin and tiny spring and voila. There is a UA-cam video on repairing the Honda ignition switch. Just take out the bad pins save 500 to 800 bucks.

Cool George! , I did one today. anyone could fix lock barrel just discard the wafers that jam tha barrel and use same key . Make sure you take out the small spring s as well. No need for diag tools . The mechanical locks are basically obsolete in modern car as the key reader is the main security .

Charlie Mac inside the lock there are small parts that move up & down as you insert the key . To access these parts you hav2 1st take the lock barrel out of the car 2 pull the lock apart . All locks are different depending on the brand of car. If you are talking about a honda jazz it isn't too difficult.

I'm just had to replace all this in a 03 Odyssey. Replaces all the parts and the car wouldn't start so I left the key in the on position unplugged the new one and plugged in my old immobilizer with the old key in the lope and that didn't work either so I went ahead and plugged the new one back in to call it a day but first gave it another start and the damn van started right up and has been running ever since. Oh the part I left out is I used my old original key in the new ignition self because I got it from pick and pull without a key so I just took out some of the Wafers so my old key would still work but again I still did use the new immobilizer... I haven't seen any other video showing this but it for sure works and it all happened by an accident to me. One more thing and I'm not sure if it had any thing to do with it but I had the van battery disconnect overnight.

Did this to a 2011 honda pilot. Once I rebuilt the ignition switch, the switch worked fine in cylinder housing but once inside the housing it would not turn. Seems the steering wheel locked so I had to remove the brace to place it in unlock position. Then placed ignition cylinder in housing without releasing them slightly in acc position to keep wheel from turning

I paired the Launch x431 to my app and when i did the diagnostic, first i noticed the VIN was missing from the vehicle (2004 Honda Pilot) information. 2nd When i followed to look for the immobilizer option it was not detected (even though the vehicle is equipped). Hello George. I have a Honda Pilot EX-L. I went to Amazon, and it said that the items are unavailable. Is there any updated information, or items?

I have Honda Jazz. Key fails to turn every single time. I then looked across 3 sites and read about a guy who put his key in 4 or 5mm only. Turn it clockwise about 1/8th of a turn, BUT WHILE keeping the clockwise torque on it push it on in. Car starts every time, but only when I do this. Thanks (whoever posted this advice).

Hi George, I am about to attempt to replace my ignition lock using your video as a guide. I was not able to get a new ignition lock from HONDA like the one in this video, but I am thinking of going to a salvage location and removing one from a a vehicle. question , if the ignition lock comes from the same year and model vehicle , should everything in this video work as shown?

      How did it go?
I removed the switch and took it to the locksmith.
      $100.00 fixed it.
      Just hoping it will last.

I replaced the ignition module in a 2003 with a used unit out of a 2005. I didn't have time to get the communication dongle as I needed the car so I was forced to take it to the dealer to get reprogrammed.
You did the reprogram in 4 minutes. The dealer charged me 1 hour claiming they had to update the vehicle software to the ECM. I don't know if that had anything to do with the different years? I can't see that taking 1 hour as I can update my computer software in minutes.
I don't mind paying for a fair service but I don't like getting f'ed. Is there any circumstance where an hour is warranted? I doubt it but I'd like your opinion.

I replaced the steering column in my 1989 Pontiac Grand Am with another steering column when I got it all put back in my shifter between the seats wouldn't move. I can't push the button, think I hooked up something wrong maybe the piece on the steering column. It's not my brake switch my tail lights work. Has something to do with the key?

My sheer bolts would not come out or turn on my ‘06 CRV. I found out that you can leave them alone and by unscrewing the plastic around the ignition cylinder you can access the pin. The pin holding the lock cylinder to the housing did not want to come out... I drilled 2 holes (one hole in front and one behind the pin) and when all else failed I used a grinder to grind down a pair of needle nose pliers to fit. After many attempts the pen finally was pulled free.
What I found out in the process is that you can drill one hole to the right of the pen toward the and then go ahead and drill another hole another hole to the right of that hole and slide remove the lock cylinder with the pen still in the cylinder. Makes it quick and easy. Reason being is that you do not need to use the pen when placing the lock cylinder back. As the cylinder will be held in with the plastic when the 4 screws are placed back and work perfectly... I bought a replacement lock cylinder (with 2 keys) off of Amazon for $18. It worked great. Before I used it, I tried the method in some videos of removing and pulling whatever pen was stuck in the out position and reusing the same cylinder. However I had no luck with that, at all. I’d say try that first cannot hurt, might have better luck.
Also I’d say if you can use a chisel or dremel and remove the sheer pens easily then go for it.
If you can drill one hole and remove the pin holding the lock cylinder, then try it.
Or you can just not fool with any of that drill the holes needed to slide the cylinder out and fix or replace the cylinder and slide it all back in, try the key and then replace the plastic and go on with your day. (At least this is my experience with my CRV). I thought I needed the locking pen (so I took extra time to remove it (just in case), but when I was able to replace the cylinder without reinstalling and have everything work perfectly fine (as if it was installed) I wanted to spread the word.
Lastly always best to disconnect the negative battery terminal as you do not want to trigger the airbag by pulling out a connector. Peace. :)

Starting from 1998-ish, all cars must have a start lock with a chip to prevent theft (is an international rule). So yes, you have to repeat the same procedure. Side note: I have a Honda CR V 2002 and everything is exactly the same, can't vouch for new models.

@@liloiul Could you help me w a problem ? I have a 07 honda accord that I replaced the ignition on & then I had a locksmith come out to reprogram the key & it kept failing to reprogram.. Im thinking its maybe because I didnt have the ignition tightened all the way & the little lever that sits in the middle where the steering column sits wasnt pushed all the way down & thats the reason the reprogram kept failing... Any suggestions or input would be appreciated.
