    Great video, and very helpful. I do oil changes regularly to supplement my income, but I had never done an oil change on a BMW before, so I wanted to know what to expect. This video had all the information I needed. Keep the great videos coming!

    Excellent video!! Great information!! Some clown at a garage wanted to charge me $125.00 to change my oil in my 2001 X5. I said NO WAY. I did what you did and did it myself. It's amazing how many idiots out there who love to take advantage of the public.

    Thank you so much. Never thought that the Super Tech oil is good for the X5 4.4i, save money for movie tickets.

    Thank you for your wonderful video. I am trying to change the 2013 X5 diesel engine. There are two undercovers below the engine: one large black plastic and one light metal. Which one to remove in order to drain the old oil ? I am also trying to use the 36mm socket and it is too large for my oil cap on top. Please advise

    Hey 50s. I’m a big fan and your vids have helped me a lot. I have an ‘03 x5 3.0i and I was wondering if the filter o-ring is suppose to sit down, inside the housing. Mine doesn’t seem to want to seat down inside and I wind up getting it too loose or too tight and it leaks. Anyway, the leak just destroyed the alternator. Any suggestions on the o-ring?

    How often do you change the oil in one of these things, considering it holds 8 quarts and you're using full synthetic?

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  8 років тому +2

      I like to change the oil at 7500 miles. Half of BMW's recommendation.

      +50sKid Do you change the oil filter half way through that interval?

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  8 років тому +1

      Yep, every change. I suppose that might not be necessary, now that I think about it, but it's only $6.

      I had the failsafe on and it turned out to be the ABS module that needed replacement.

    im guessing this is newer than 2005? theirs no oil filter in the hood on mine

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  7 років тому +1

      This was a 2001. Honestly I do not think there is an BMW that doesn't have the oil filter under the hood.

      I have an 04 X5 4.4i w N62 and just went out to look for mine and don't see one under hood either...maybe it's underneath by where oil comes out?

  • @KP0117
    @KP0117 7 років тому

    How come you didn't full fill the filter with oil?

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  7 років тому

      It would just drain down. The cap needs to be on to prevent that.

  • @billrimmer5596

    It would b nice if someone would link to us what E53 means and what all those designations r. Everything about those vehicles is based on their designation. They can't do it like normal companies eg. 1984 ElCamino 305. Everything BMW does is for the purpose of discouraging any non dealer people working on them. Regular trans fluid ha. Regular antifreeze, ha. Anything not torx bit ha!

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  8 років тому +1

      E53 is the chassis identification number that identifies the major model changes. Most people do use regular green anti-freeze in them, ironically. The torx thing is just a German thing. The think it's superior, but if course it's just as shitty as phillips or slotted. IMHO, hex bolts are the most durable design we've got, although still not perfect by any stretch.

      actually, everything in BMW is quite logical, just start using your brain

      If you mix different types of coolant, strange things can happen...Had one customer that put DexCool (a GM coolant) in his Ford which had the 'regular' (green/ethylene glycol) stuff in it and a precipitate formed, plugging up his radiator and heater core. Additionally, some manufactures' gaskets and seals may not be compatible with certain types of coolant. In the end, just use the correct coolant. If you can afford a BMW you have no room to justify pinching pennies on maintenance.
