Thank you for this post. I was lucky to see him perform live 2 times & talked with him at a Power of Tower club date in Redondo Beach. This clip shows how much of an entertainer this man was. He had me laughing & grinning from ear to ear as I watched this performance. Musician, singer, guitarist, song writer, producer innovator, par excellence! We will never see the likes of him again, sadly enough.
For those of you who are not familiar with Johnny Guitar Watson, he was a pioneer and innovator of his art and technique as well as a great song writer and producer!!!! I would strongly recommend these two albums from JGW "A REAL MOTHER FOR YA " and "AIN'T THAT A BITCH " very clever song writing , somewhat similar to Chuck Berry songs writing clever yet witty ! His use of horns on these albums are spot on with flawless precision !!!!! His guitar work is clever and authentic on these albums and the way that this man plays a guitar is an art form that many great guitar players lack ,he demonstrates his creativity much in the same light as Jimmy Hendrix!!!! He also inspired Steve Ray Vaughan whom idolized him and also duplicated his techniques!!!! JGW is that hidden gem , only known by loyal fans of his !!!! Mainly those whom are true blues lovers!!!! He wasn't main stream due to him being a blues musician, but I can safely say he is one of the greats guitar players of all time!!!! I truly hope that those whom are not familiar with his music, pick up these 2 albums listed above , both albums are unique treasures, you can listen to the albums from beginning to end and wont find one bad song , arrangement or production !!!!
UR ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!! I'm not sure but he's the first to combine Disco with blues when he broke out "Ain't DAT a bitch"?? Not too much longer Barry White did it with his crossover song" Ecstasy"!!!?? JGW was my favorite, When I was a teenager my Father and I would jam our favorite over and over. " Nothing left to be desired"..
This M/F hea, was just too far ahead of the times that was here. His shit iz still slightly in front of the pac. But when y’all catch up, enjoy the treat coming your way. So musically versatile!! Love you Johnny! Hope to see you in the next one or two 😢.
Man, I was about to shut down my computer when I found this so I sat my ass down and thoroughly enjoyed JGW. I used to have an album of his with A Real Mother for Ya. Great guitarist, singer, bluesman, entertainer. Shame on me for not listening to him in so long. I need to down load some of his music. Man, I love the blues.
I always say for all the great musicians that we get to hear because "they make it" there are so many we're never going to hear because they didn't "make it" but we're still playing their whole life. Google Frankie Paris who's called the Godfather of the New York club scene for over 40 years. Frankie was a good friend of mine who I call my mentor because he was so helpful and encouraging to other musicians that he was that to me for sure. I always said if he was taller and looked as good as Tom Jones everyone would have been listening to Frankie. My dear friend passed away in 2008 in his '60s😢. Love you Frankie miss you and think of you often to this day ❤️
Many times artist like JGW are overlooked because record companies focus most of there energy and resources into artist whom they feel are "commercial " as Bobby Womack would say !!!! Record companies will put the bank behind 4 or 5 pretty boys with no talent !!!! And will throw there most talented artist leftover peanuts 🥜 but will beg talented artists to help make there new untalented pretty boy group sound talented!!!! It happens all the time!!!!
You know there were PLENTY of people saying the exact same thing about this (blues/rock) when it first emerged... Take a wild guess at what they all have in common..
Thank man , I never heard ,read or seen this man play. My wife and I use to run & operate a 750 capacity nightclub ( Bo Diddly was our biggest Blues Musician we had among other genres ) & as a promoter he never came to our attention. Music love & respects .
OMG!!😮 actually a big fan from my teenage years 70-80's funk vibes "real motha for ya" and never new he came from the blues scene...amazing capture bro!!
Johnny did some of my favorite vocals on "Andy" and "San Ber'dino" off One Size Fits All. Some musicians are just naturals. What a talent! JGW is heavy on my play list!
Frank was temporarily a great arranger of music but the success went to his head and afterwards he produced some awful music. He was an average guitarist at best. Just sheer noise. JGW on rhe other hand....one of the greatest.
Him and George Duke played with Zappa and the Mothers, you can't miss me with this shit, believe it ,when I read he had passed in Japan wow I felt a great loss as if I knew the brother personally RIP
I remember him very well,i went to his concert in 1982 ,it was marvelous,,he made that guitar talk,, and all them gold 🪙🥇 teeth,,wow great man and musician,, stay blessed johnny we love 💕💕 you ❤❤❤ Lafayette Louisiana
I just subscribed to your channel because you made me reminisce over how much I admired Johnny Guitar Watson’s playing and songwriting as a young man. Thanks for the memories. 🙏🏾
Musically speaking, he was a descendant to T-Bone Walker & a forerunner & inspiration to those who followed like Jimmy Hendrix & Eric Clapton. An exceptional talent who has been sort of forgotten & under appreciated. There was a documentary about him which I've had trouble locating called "Johnny Watson : A real Mother For Ya".
If you're a great skateboarder you could use anybody's board to land a trick. No matter if they ride their trucks tight or barely falling off. Skinny or wide board. Grip tape falling off or new sheet just laid. I feel the same way about Johnny. I know a lot of players like playing or appreciate playing an SG. I can't stand playing an SG. it feels like I'm playing a coffee table. Much respect to Johnny he's hands down in my top ten favorite guitar players. And it's for that same reason that guy Mariano skates. They're great at it and just natural nothing comes off as staged or contrived. R.I. P. Johnny. We miss you and will forever love who you were and what you were and represented to us.
I don't like shateboards because it feels like in riding on a little, narrow tiny coffee table with 4 dinky wheels. But I love the Gibson SG body style.
That bass player is awesome. Great tone and feel.
WOW!!! THE GUITAR CAN TALK!! What a performer !
Johnny was one of the Greats baby !!

You
You were very fortunate to have seen JGW the first time and twice as lucky the second!
Kudos to your homage to an outstanding representative of the genre and one fabulous entertainer.😊
Johnny G! Excellent and left us too soon at 61. ❤
😢😢😢
Yesss😢😢😢😢
Johnny guitar Watson BB King and Chuck Berry best guitar players
You know the band Is special when the bass is upside down
I don’t like it , it confuses me !
Funny how some lefties just get used to playing them that way, while others have to have a proper lefty bass (or guitar).
@@fabrikk60I noticed that the bass players that are lefty’s and leave the strings the same play great
😂👍🏾
He's left handed!

One of the greatest to ever pick up a guitar 😊
I love me some Johnny Guitar Watson. One of the best blues legend. Gone but never forgotten. Continue to rest in peace Baby!
Man why have I never heard of this man? It's always the obscure bands that seem to amaze me.
He is very very very underrated but he was very popular in the blues circles

Words well spoken, that era is gone, gone forever. The level of excellence for that group can’t be surpassed.
The Guitar Solo on the Keyboard was awesome. I will never look at a keyboard guitar sound the same way again.
Nothing but the “Funk” Eddie was a beast on the axe . . . Thanks for posting
Just a man that did what he loved, and we loved him back. I miss JGW!
Simply a spiritual creation of the eternal ancient of days! He loves his amazing music! Are we clear!
Man this guy’s good at being on stage
The Gangster OF Love.
Today we have mumble rap. What a shame our best days of art and music are behind us. A true loss for our society.
I’ll do my best to bring it back!
You know there were PLENTY of people saying the exact same thing about this (blues/rock) when it first emerged... Take a wild guess at what they all have in common..
They said "Johnny went to his death on stage." What a hit maker!!
@@perkinsshaquan770Just to hear you say that makes me feel proud

Jeri-Curl days...that crap got on everything lol
It coated Memphis when I lived there.
It coated a bunch of places. Heck, I helped build Baltimore’s oil slick. Probably why I’m bald today LOL
Jeri curl on the Keyboards to . Those Jeri curl days are shiny bald heads now 😅
