Kirk, For a Crown Platinum with 340 hp that weighs more than a Ford Crown Victoria, your mpg result is outstanding.🥳🥳 My biggest concern with the Crown Sedan is the fact the comfortable and elevated seat height is negated by the lack of rear seat headroom. That is a problem that plagues 99% of sedans in production today. 🤨
His MpG results make me wish this powertrain was available on the new Crown Signia. It seems like not including the Hybrid Max on the Signia is a miss.
@@jamesphillips4599 That is a fair point. At this time I am still amazed Toyota brought the Crown wagon to our market. If the Signia sells at or above the numbers Toyota projected, they may consider adding a second powertrain option.
@@xzimxzim I just don't know what Toyota was thinking by not bringing the Crown Sport over to the states at all. It's gorgeous and the only Crown I really have any interest in buying
07:45 are your results, 37.74 mpg. That’s quite impressive with that kind of weight and power available. I drove a Crown Hybrid Max and it was quite “ zippy” says my butt dyno.
I have convinced my daughter to obtain a Crown Signia XLE next summer. I only hope Toyota doesn't restrict inventory and that it is readily available here in Houston. Thanks for all of your reviews, much appreciated.
That turbo is what's going to kill these. With a turbo, you need super clean oil and high octane gas 100% of the time. If you don't believe me, please look it up. This Toyota Crown is a ticking time bomb
Very interesting, I’m an owner of a Crown Limited and I get a cool 45-44 mpg, slightly more than its advertised. However, I have 100% went over that and hit a whopping 57mpg but that took a lot of conscious planning The crown is 100% the best option for comfort, style, and size. You can easily get 50mpg and the AWD system gets you DOWN when you need it. My biggest gripe about it is that the head clearance is HORRENDOUS, if you’re 6 foot you might have an issue especially if you use the sun visor
the mpgs you get on your road tests (usually more than mfgr's estimate has to take into account - yourocatkon - Florida is flat.... where we live, we deal with hills all over the locale, constantly affecting mpgs... ???
Hi Kirk, I recently bought a 2025 Camry and sometimes when the HV battery is low the engine revs up more than usual to charge it. Like when applying throttle and what not it revs higher, it kind of feels like a clutch slipping to describe the feel. It revs a lot higher than any car I have owned when its in idle and trying to charge the battery. Have you felt the same in some cases when driving that car? Thanks
If I had a child that made honor roll I would consider that sticker. The Dodgers won the World Series and I don't think that is significant enough for me to put a sticker on my vehicle. But also I fear that I would apply stickers crooked and I don't like the idea of sticker remorse.
How are hybrids in 100+ degree weather? I live in the great state of Texas, and in the summer it can hit 100 regularly. I am very skeptical of EVs/hybrids in that climate. I feel the battery would degrade so fast.
I had an 08 Lexus GS450H and it never got close to the gas mileage rating. And yeah it was fast for its time, V8 mpg. it was easily hitting 175 mph on the Autobahn. There are videos on UA-cam for those all interested 😂
I drive my hybrid (CRV) in sport mode until I get to traffic, since it's more fun. I normally get about 37-40 here in Texas. I lose a bunch on the 80+ MPH highways, but all in all I am happy that I bought a hybrid.
Kirk, you made one small mistake on the powertrain. saying the rear E-axle can't be disconnected and that it always requires a power draw isn't true. Just because the motor is connected does not mean the current has to be flowing... If Toyota always uses the rear motor that is by choice. Not a requirement based on build layout... That's not how electric motors work.
To be fair the gen 2 prius drops bars sometimes at random if you do the math, IE 140km then 89km, 125km, 65km, etc etc. It's kind of a guesstimate. Best way to calculate fuel economy is by gong to the last 5l (or ~1.5us gal). If you want to keep it safe then just let it dry up to about 15l (~4 us gal, should be a very safe spot without occasional aeration).
1 op 16 km for such a powerful car is an ourstanding performance, wow. The Crown, if you like the design or not, an outstanding well build car. I preferre pur 23 European spec Lexus Hybrid 300H, our car achieves 1 liter every 20 km...... . Toyota 's hybrids are magnificent and sales are 17% in the plus in Europe.....even the Bz4x is picking up sales.
My father used to tell a story when he was a young engineer back at CORCO (Common Wealth Refinery Co.). He had one fully optioned and he used to park it along a basic one that was owned by an American guy just to see him mad!! That one is a rust bucket!
If we wanna compare it with another heavy as sin hybrid, the crown absolutely smokes my V60 recharge on fuel economy, and unlike the crown, I’m premium 91 only. It’d be nice to see the hybrid Max drivetrain get a plug.
2023 S60 Recharge, 11/1/22 to 10/31/24, about 70% local miles, 20562 miles, 192.9 gal, 106.6 mpg, ~$30 / mo to charge at 16¢ per kWh. Love the technical content on this site. Here’s my contribution, 30 days in my Volvo PHEV sedan: 956 miles, 26 driving days, 6 days were more than 50 miles (105+110+73+53+167+183), totaling 691 miles, but not all hwy miles. Given my average full battery charge of 50 - not 41 - miles, one could conclude that about 390 of these miles were gasoline powered, but I’d guess the number is lower. Except for (Pa) wintertime, and if exhausting the battery completely, the car will go up to 10% farther on electric than predicted on the dash, 40 to 55 mph. Obviously, 20 of the 26 were under 50 miles. Little if any gas burned these 20 days as this motor is more than adequate for local driving. It will instantly deliver 445 lbs ft* to the rear wheels when needed. *Dyno test.
oh I’m ~94mpg overall since spring. I just mean with the battery depleted, with the car driving like a traditional hybrid, the Volvos simply aren’t much more efficient than a comparable ICE car. If Volvo offered a PHEV with 150 less horsepower, but 10mpg better economy and the ability to run regular 87, I’d have bought that, for summer road tripping…
@@Cal94 my 106 includes two Pa winters, and of course the sedan is more efficient than an SUV (12 to 15% for mine vs yours, EPA). If you complain about poor mileage in a PHEV it would be best to also point out, it’s a given when you don’t plug it in. It really does defeat the purpose.
Because the car comes from Japan and is not just sold in the US. So weird that metric is such a big deal for Americans. Don't cry 😂if you switched the settings to metric that little kms would switch to mph
That is extremely cheap compared to the rest of the world. Here in Ontario, Canada we currently pay about $4.2. Europe pays even more. So don't complain.
Cry harder, gas is as cheap as its has been for end of November in 3 years. I bought gas for 2.85 in Phoenix this week. I laughed..what a bargain compared to what I normally pay in Canada. The ISS (space station) uses batteries similar to Ni-MH, so be sure a rest - 100000 cycles easily
The batteries are air cooled from the bottom of the seat. Always use your air conditioning, keep these vents open, and keep these vents clean.

Nice you get cheap gas. It’s so expensive in Japan since Covid and it hasn’t gone down. Hopefully the US begins producing more gas for export too.
Silly Toyota does not include its reserve fuel capacity as an available range. Just think that your fuel tank is only 13 gallons.

First I've heard of a Toyota Hybrid with a turbo. It's not on some didnky high stressed engine to replace a normally aspirated engine.
