This & Mattel's Football 2 & Basketball 2 were my 3 favs on the Mattel line back then. My buddies & I actually kept won- loss records as we played against each other. Coleco's Electronic Quarterback was my favorite football game- before Mattel's Football 2 which adding the ability to throw downfield while scrambling ( like the QB who made that famous & retired a yr before that game came out- Fran Tarkenton). The Basketball 2 was a step up as well as you could pick types of defense & you could shoot 3 pointers! Coleco's head to head baseball was also great as each batters batting average showed as they stepped up to the plate. Great memories!
Thank you with all the upsetting stuff going on in the news I can relax remember a more simple time look foreword ever time thank you for being there for everyone.
Agreed! - these handheld electronic led games are neat to me and are basic fun of yesteryear!
Great show! After hitting ball you hear beeps.......1 beep single 2 beeps double 3 triple just hold run...if the runner is fast 3 beeps u can get inside the park hr
just came here because of an episode of family guy... and damn, this is a nice little machine!
Still have my football 2 which I was able too play in class...got a small Phillips head screwdriver and some wire cutters too cut the speaker wire...
Thanks! My wife has the original and I wish it had the sound on/off button. May have to get her the classic version for travel.
Beep beep beep is a triple. So keep going!!
i just got one at barns and noble great game
You were very blessed if you got one of these in your stockings ! Great review !!! I wonder why they didn’t use “take me out to the ball game”.
I just like to say I love your channel Willy! You're like a firiend I'd like to hang out with back when I was a kid, not because you had all the cool toys (hehe) but you just seem friendly! Keep it up! You make nostalgia gaming so comforting and cool...Awsoooome! :-)
Love to have Willie as a friend now and then.
Coleco Head to Head Baseball another classic from 1982
Great video. I have the 70s Mattel line of led sports games (sans ski slalom) and baseball is the one I play most often. Football 2 is a close 2nd.
I still have them all :)) my fav is baseball, either the original or the new release which still is in its box! Oh, and I have the mini keychain version too.
The first one I ever owned was a Basketball version I bought from my then-brother in-law in 1980. I was about to move back to Groveport OH after working for several months in Warren MI, but the night before I did, he sold me Basketball for $15. I have to say I played it a lot back then but after I started college I lost track of it.
Nowadays I have many of the Mattel handhelds from the 70s, due to the fact I haunt the thrifts and usually found them for 90 cents each.
Hey! I remember having that baseball handheld around the 2000s and it was FUN!
I got a Mattel Basketball back when these first came out and my brother got Football. I had played Baseball at a local store before Christmas that year and wanted it but I got Basketball instead and really enjoyed it. Three great LED games for sure. I re-acquired the original Basketball a few years ago and also got a re-release of Football with the LCD screen and digitized sound effects. I prefer the original Football with the LEDs and original sounds but the new version is cool too.
Just found mine in my parents attic. Can't stop playing it. :)
Its a pretty fun game, it was years before I realized I could just hold down the run button :P
@@SVT512 what does holding down the run button do ?
@@chocloditelensman it makes you run to the bases without having to keep pressing the button.
@Arcade: Was this Mattel game better than the Tandy version?
There is a non Mattel branded one out now with recorded sfx (crowd noises, bat and so forth), but I still prefer the original, though I haven't played one is decades. Football and basket ball were always favorites, and I liked a golf one which might have been a radio shack release.
After every push of the hit button, immediately press and hold the run button to get a good jump out of the box. Don't wait for the result of the hit and don't keep pressing run. The running is faster if you just hold the button down.....when I was 8. Watch that effin curve ball...you fly out to right field. Level 1 was for poosees.
I still have mine that I bought in 1978. It's cool how some things that are now 40 years old are as fun as they were when they were first introduced. The link for the site that you can play online is: www.peterhirschberg.com/handheld/ledhead/
The remakes actually use backlit LCD. Not as aesthetically pleasing, imho than LEDs.
I really enjoyed watching your Mattel handheld reviews including this one. I wanted to ask you if you ever had any of the Coleco versions of the sport games ? Thank you for a great revisit of a classic game.
yes
🥺🥺🥺
I come across the new one quite a bit at yard sales. I wish I could find an original one.
There's plenty to pick from on ebay
Thank you for posting these!! They were so much fun back then..
