This shit is hard took me a week to learn it. The constant changing of power chords and little nuances of notes really was a mindfuck but so awesome I finally learned it.

Exhorder were great. I saw them in ‘92 in Hollywood (at the Whiskey); it was the most violent pit I’ve ever been in (when Kyle threw a American football out in the crowd and announced whomever had the ball at the end of the song would get a prize) and saw them again (in Atlanta) when they reunited.
The only problem is the engineering was so bad on the first two albums that it is difficult to discern the notes on the fast riffs.
I talked with Vinnie (La Bella) about it and he laughed and said that a lot of people who post videos of them playing his songs, play them incorrectly.
But, he understands because it’s because of the bad mixing.
When people post these videos it’s a lot of it is interpretation of what they perceive the riffs to be.
I told Vinnie that there I want to learn one of his songs properly, because I don’t think I play it correctly.
He laughed and told me I’m probably not playing it correctly, because there is “a lot going on” in the song that cannot be heard in the recording.
He told me he would “teach” me the song. But, he was drunk and stoned when he told me that.

@@OlDrake my favorite from that album is “The Tragic Period.”
I love that “rag time” type riff at around the 3:20 mark.
That song is a f…ing riff CLINIC! I don’t think there is a bad riff in that song, at all, and it is jammed-packed with riff, after riff. It’s a riff onslaught.
      😂
But, like I stated, Vinnie just laughed and guaranteed me that I’m probably playing it incorrectly, because there is much more going on than our ears can discern.
I’ve put that song through many different DAWs, trying to clean it up so I can figure it out, but with no success.
From what I understand, the people who mixed that album, basically took audio from some of the demos and did a bunch of over dubs, which is why it’s so muddy sounding.
You guys struck gold on your first album, getting Rasmussen to engineer it. Your first album has much better production quality than the first albums of many bands.
      But, yeah, Exhorder kicked ass.
I used to have a copy of a drum tab book for “The Law” album, which Chris Nail (the original drummer) sold during the tour. I bought it that night at the Whiskey.
But, unfortunately, some other guitarist I worked with stole the f…ing book!
That sucks, because my son is a drummer. He likes thrash (probably because he’s heard thrash metal since he was in the womb). If I still had that book I would give it to him.
Chris Nail is an amazing drummer. His work on “The Law,” especially, is jaw-dropping, to me.

@@OlDrake was that with Vinnie, or after he left?
Those guys were pretty cool. When I saw them in 2019, when they came of stage I mentioned that I saw them in ‘92 at the Whiskey and they told me to hang on and they would come hang with us.
I spoke with Kyle, briefly, but Vinnie and I talked for quite a long time. We took a break to go watch Exodus together, but went back outside and talked until the venue closed.
I liked Vinnie and Marzi seemed pretty cool, too.
Vinnie and I are around the sane age and we talked about a lot of sh… (life issues, things that held us back from doing music like we wanted). He is really down to Earth and we related on a lot of sh… Both of us have had to work through injuries to keep playing (an injury is why I gave up music as my main life-focus in the first place).
But, yeah, Vinnie is cool as f…! It’s a shame he had a falling out with (I assume) Kyle.
Exhorder won’t be Exhorder without Vinnie. They can try, might have the same vocals, but Vinnie was THE song writer. So, without him, it won’t be “Exhorder,” IMO.
But, it would be awesome to jam with them onstage, or off.
I’m sure you’ve gotten the opportunity to jam with all sorts of good musicians. Must be great memories for you. Experiences you’ll never forget.

I had the opportunity to work with Kyle on the riffs as i was going to be playing with the group, but I learned the rest by ear
