This movie is amazing definitely before my time but I watched it when I was In the ICU at the ER 5-6 years ago, my mom forced me to watch it because I'm a HUGE starwars fan and she was so mad I had never seen spaceballs, So glad you were able to react to this one, brings me fond memories.

Not only did Lucas endorse this movie, he let them use ILM (the VFX studio he founded) to do the VFX for it which is why the production value is so high. His only condition was that they couldn’t sell any products related to the film, hence the merchandising gag.
And Lonestar wasn’t allowed to resemble Luke Skywalker, so Mel Brooks gave him the Indiana Jones look 😂

So many people ask "Why did they even put a reverse function on it to begin with?" and it boggles my mind every time I hear someone ask that. They are stealing the air because their planet is running out of air... they would need a way to get it back out when they get back to their planet lol.
And I like how even that detail brings out the comedic idiocracy. Because a bunch of snow, dust, and trees would go back on Spaceball City lol
My only possible explanation is that they would have to "Reverse" it to put the air onto Planet Spaceball, but its a pretty weak explanation.

If you're stealing the air with a vacuum, you need a way to get the air back out again when you're ready to use it lol. All Lonestar did was give the vacuum a case of premature... ejection lol.

Rambo is an awesome movie. The first one is not only an action movie, but explores PTSD, survivor's guilt, and how America treated returning Vietnam vets, among other things. It is a HEARTBREAKING film. The other Rambo movies pretty much go all-in on the action movie trope, but Rambo (actually called "First Blood") is a masterpiece. You should ABSOLUTELY watch it.
I second this recommendation. First Blood is great.
And if you want to see a movie about PTSD from the Vietnam war, The Deer Hunter is excellent

Each subsequent Rambo sequel does go heavy on the action but they all still posed some sort of commentary on war.
Rambo II was about the lost Vietnam POWs
Rambo III was about the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan.
Rambo (2008) was about the Myanmar/Burmese conflict that was going on during the mid 2000's.
Rambo: Last Blood touched on subjects of the Mexican Cartels.
Rambo (4) was second best in the series IMO.

The radar guy was a near legendary vocal comedian, Michael Winslow, who could do really cool sound effects just with voice. His other notable movie roles were in the "Police Academy" series.
I seem to recall George Lucas only allowed the licencing for this movie if there was no merch. Also, Lonestar could not look like Luke or Han. Mel Brooks put the merchandising joke in, and if you look at him right, Lonestar actually looks like Indiana Jones.
The first Rambo movie is actually a very gritty story about a Vietnam vet who wanders into a little country town and is unfairly targeted by the local sheriff. The following movies were more cheesy 80s action movies.

I really want them to say Spaceballs 2 is coming out, make a trailer, promote it, release a full merch line, and then just never release it.
There's no way they could get away with releasing an Actual Spaceballs 2 these days......A few of Mel Brook's movies could never be made today.....and was difficult to get made even then.

The scene with Pizza the Hut could only be filmed once. The interior of the costume was practically an oven. Think about it, that was real melted cheese, sauce, bread and pepperoni. The actor had to be pulled out due to heat exhaustion (if not heat stroke). Afterwards, the actor received medical advice not to get in the costume again and then he refused to do so once he was back on set. No other actors would get in the costume after they saw what happened to the original actor, so they had to use what film they managed to get on the first and only recording.
The actor inside the costume, was Dom DeLuise! (I know, impossible to tell from the outside). Not a mere mortal, but a super being with powers far beyond those of mortal men - Captain Chaos from "The Cannonball Run" (1981).
Also, Vinny's "You're delicious boss" line was added to get Pizza Hut to sign off on using their company name.
Tesla named their performance levels on the original Model S from this movie - Ludicrous mode went 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, and Plaid mode went 0-60 in 1.9 seconds.

It's called, Colonel Bogey's March. It was originally composed in 1914 by the British army. It was used in the movie, The Bridge On The River Kwai.
Its also very prominently used in media from many old looney tunes and old disney cartoons. It got embedded into the memory of many millenials and gen x-ers without knowing anything about it
During WWII (and ever since) it was often sung by us Brits to a set of lyrics beginning with "Hitler has only got one ball.....the other is in the Albert Hall"

At their best, Mel Brooks's comedies are the perfect kind of stupid fun. I highly recommend some of his other spoofs: "Robin Hood: Men in Tights", "Dracula: Dead and Loving It" and "Blazing Saddles" :)

Fun fact: one of the conditions this movie was made on was that they weren't allowed to produce any merchandise for it because they didn't want Spaceballs merch to compete with merch from the movies it was parodying. The dinks that rescue them in the desert is a reference to " Snow White and the Seven Dwarves " and " Star Wars ". Valium is a medicine that can knock you out. Hence Prince Valium is always starting to fall asleep. The man with the alien coming out of him is John Hurt. The same thing happened to him in "Alien". That's why he said " Oh no. Not you again ". The head of megamaid and apes seeing it is a reference to " The Planet of The Apes " first movie. Great that you saw the Millennium Falcon at the restaurant. Most people don't see it until someone tells them.

One of my absolute favorite Mel Brooks films. That man is one of the greatest comedic directors ever in my opinion. There was nothing off limits to him and he made fun of everything and everyone. Love him and his movies
This is one of my favorite movies, I’ve been watching this since I was like 3 years old! I still quote this movie all the time. This is one of the best parody movies of all time. The scene where Darth Helmet is playing with the dolls and the scene where they shoot the princess’ hair and she mows them all down have always been my favorite 😂

Mel Brooks had to walk on his knees for the Yogurt role. 20:10 gotta remember Mel Brooks is Jewish so he tends to put Jewish jokes in his movies. 20:51 Lucas loved it. He had a couple stipulations like no merchandise could be sold for the movie and the character Lone Star couldn’t be like Han Solo so he did Indiana Jones. 21:42 they were working on the sequel “Spaceballs 3: The Search for Spaceballs 2”. 27:59 how else were they going to let the air out on their planet? 32:30 for the circus that’s on the ship. 33:47 did you catch the joke with the prince? His name was Prince Valium and was always tired. They said earlier he was a pill. 36:15 “Planet of the Apes”. 36:50 I thought it was funny they had the costume change for Lone Star and Barf. Mel Brooks does a great job giving you a laugh when you need it no matter how dumb it is.
