Hello, nice dudes! Today we checked out a classic comedy satire, Spaceballs (1987)! Directed by Mel Brooks and starring Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, and John Candy! This is our first Mel Brooks film, and it was an amazing start to his filmography. We truly couldn't stop laughing. Enjoy!

As I'm sure others have already pointed out, George Lucas gave them permission to use all the Star Wars references and even the same special effects equipment, which is why they was able to make it look like a bigger budget movie than it actually was. The main stipulation was that they wasn't allowed sell any actual merchandise. That is why they had the joke about the merchandising shop at Yogurts lair.

Regarding that sincere wholesome ending, I think that's very important in comedy: No matter how many jokes you cram in, you can't make a joke out of everything. Any good story, no matter how silly, needs to have something that feels real and meaningful. Mel Brooks was always very good at that. It's hard to be that consistently funny and still tell stories about people worth caring about.

Watching your reaction video makes me feel really old. Saw this in the theater with my family the day it came out. As a Star Wars kid, this movie rocked my World! I still love it!!!

Just finished this and your reaction to Blazing Saddles! Mel Brooks is a GOD, I don’t think I’ve ever laughed as hard in movies as I have with these. I love your guys reactions, they are so animated and genuine! Please check out Robin Hood, men in tights soon!

7:05 George Wyners face/expression as the camera “zooms” into Dark Helmets face. Priceless! lol

This is the second of my favorite Mel Brooks movies ever, the other one is "The Producers". There is a very subtle connection between them (other than Mel himself of course); the person initiating the transformation, or metamorphosis, from Spaceball One to Megamaid is named Kafka. The real Franz Kafka wrote a book called "The Metamorphosis" in which Gregor Samsa turns into a giant insect. In the "The Producers" movie the script for a musical which started with those words was deemed too good to not be a flop. And Spaceballs was made 20 years later.

Fun fact: The Effects were done my Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), who were the same guys who worked on the original Star Wars Trilogy. Additionally the clips of the escape pods deploying were actually filmed for star wars but was ultimately unused!
Also if you guys want any recommendations from me:
    Watch Puppet Master 1, 2, and 3
Maybe some Columbo episodes(It's a good show)
Hot Fuzz(the second of the Cornelio Trilogy)
And some episodes of the original Ultraman series!
And if ever possible(and you didn't watch it before): ALIEN!

I think they said somewhere that they've already seen Hot Fuzz, but not The World's End. Don't quote me on that tho...
Based on their reactions at 18:45, I assume they've already seen Alien.
      Btw, Aliens > Alien
      Don't @ me

Saw this movie at the cinema with a classmate here in Germany. IIRC the two of us were the only ones in the theater. I haven't watched it in years but it will always have a special to me. Mel Brooks was such a rare blend of witty, brilliant, ironic, and kind-hearted. Back then, some of the less obvious references were lost on me. So thanks for closing those gaps along with reminding me that I need to re-watch this movie ASAP.

Great reaction! My favourite thing about Mel Brooks movies is how often he breaks the 4th wall. Characters are almost always talking or looking out to the audience and cameras and such keep showing up. He wants to make sure you remember you are watching a film. haha
