    In my opinion, the top priority should be retaining Elijah Robinson in any position. If he can stay with A&M and be promoted to DC, he can stabilize and retain a lot of the current roster and maintain the current recruiting class’ momentum. The new head coach will benefit greatly if they agree to retain ERob.

      The last time A&M promoted an assistant to head coach not in an interim basis was before the 1989 season. His name? R.C. SLOCUM

      Probably the smartest response on here. Don’t know I’d they can keep him but it would definitely be the most beneficial. Those kids (even offensive guys) love him. He’s a lot of their favorite coach. Just think he probably either needs a big raise or a DC role.

    • @caderebstock
      @caderebstock Рік тому +2

      @@jameslaw1696 he’s one of the highest paid position coaches in the country already. He’s been in contention for several big P5 DC jobs anyways, so I think now is the perfect time for him to move up to DC. Especially if we are able to hire a defense-minded HC like Elko or Lanning that can help guide him for his first stint as DC.

    • @jameslaw1696

      @@caderebstock I’d be thrilled with Elko HC and E Rob as DC. Durkin was never a good fit for this team anyway. He wants to run a 3 man front when our strength is clearly the DL and we only have 3 players who are even decent college LB’s. Durkin did well but Elko would’ve completely shut teams down with this talent.
      I also think Elko makes the most sense with the timing of this firing. Anybody in contention for the CFP would take far too long to get here and I think our roster will be decimated if there’s no leadership in place until January between the transfer portal and early signing day.
      Regardless, Jimbo definitely needed to go. Culture was rotten and talent was being wasted.

    You knew Texags knew something when they started talking negatively about Jimbo Fisher in the last couple of weeks. Texags and Bill Liucci are the biggest cheerleaders for A&M ever. They are biased beyond belief. The put EVERYTHING in a positive light for A&M. When they started talking down on Jimbo, you knew Jimbo was gone because Texags would NEVER say anything negative about anyone with a future at A&M.

      @@CAROLINA_BULLDOGZ That's not true. Let's recap:
      2014 season: Needed a 14-point fourth quarter comeback and overtime to beat Arkansas, a late defensive stop to beat UL Monroe by 5, and a fluke Auburn fumble inside the five to beat Auburn. That could have very easily been 4-8 instead of 7-5 in the regular season. The only other game that season within 1 score was a 34-27 loss to Missouri.
      2015 season: Needed a late comeback to beat Arkansas in overtime and a late defensive stop to beat South Carolina. None of the other games that season were within 1 score. That season could have ended 6-6 instead of 8-4.
      2016 season: Needed overtime after blowing a 24-9 fourth quarter lead to beat a 5-win UCLA team. Needed 2 overtimes to beat Tennessee after blowing a 35-21 lead with 4 minutes left in the game. The Mississippi State and Ole Miss games were lost by a combined 8 points. That season could have ended 6-6 or 10-2.
      All three of those seasons came AFTER Kevin Sumlin got his fully guaranteed contract extension.

    The timing is based on the price of oil. The boosters are picking up the one time up front charge of $19.3 million, and the wealthy boosters mostly have oil money. The price of oil is high right now, but it could go down significantly in the next few years due to recession or other events, and Texas A&M did not want to risk waiting a couple of more years, when maybe they could not afford to buy him out if the boosters didn't have the money.
