In my opinion, the top priority should be retaining Elijah Robinson in any position. If he can stay with A&M and be promoted to DC, he can stabilize and retain a lot of the current roster and maintain the current recruiting class’ momentum. The new head coach will benefit greatly if they agree to retain ERob.
Probably the smartest response on here. Don’t know I’d they can keep him but it would definitely be the most beneficial. Those kids (even offensive guys) love him. He’s a lot of their favorite coach. Just think he probably either needs a big raise or a DC role.

By most accounts, things were trending upwards, especially on the recruiting front, but it collapsed drastically after hiring Addazio and the o line started to crumble. That happened really fast in hindsight. At least the boosters owned up to their mistake and didn’t try to fire him for cause or anything like that.

The price of oil is high right now, but it could go down significantly in the next few years due to recession or other events, and Texas A&M did not want to risk waiting a couple of more years, when maybe they could not afford to buy him out if the boosters didn't have the money.
Bear Bryant couldn't win a championship at ATM back in the day and it was his lowest win percentage 63.% vs 71, 72, 82. Jimbo was extremely successful at FSU before coming to ATM, if Jimbo can't win there I don't think anyone but Saban/Kirby/Dabo/Urban could and I'm not sure any of them would have more than 1 championship. With OUT adding to the conference idk how it will get easier either.

Even if A&M didn't tie Houston that season, they would have not won the national championship. Oklahoma, who went 10-0 and ALSO DIDN'T PLAY IN A BOWL, was given the title.
