Never get tired of hearing this man talk about knives. I see a 20 minute video with Michael Janich, I click. Side note, I wonder if Tony used that tempest design as inspiration for the socom elite, def a strong resemblance
Was thinking the same thing. How the thumb stud and blade meet the handle in the open position looks very similar between the two knives. Michael's handle design looks more comfortable, though.
That Khar Arms Delica 4 was the best knife I’ve ever owned. I had no idea what I was in possession of… I wanted a short knife for work and bought that then ended up loosing it in the field!!!! I tried to buy a new one and they were discontinued. I’d spend hundreds to get it back. Perfect design for self defense and every day applications. I hope this one will be similar
I had the Kahr Delica in Khaki and sold it. I won't pay what they go for now. An online place does regrinds. I think Mike still makes the same thing. Now I carry the Wharncliffe Delica.
One of the most interesting production lineups today, the Yojimbo 2 is a paradigm shifter worthy of standing alongside the Paramilitary 2 and Manix 2. Many thanks to Mr. Janich!
Yojimbo 2 is my absolute favorite EDC. I have numerous knives from fun to exotic. I live the hollow grind and never had any issue with the tip. I use the KME sharpener and it has a mirror finish. And... Yojimbo is one of my favorite samurai movies!
Nice one Mike. Complements your earlier video on the YO2 seven years back for MBC, this present vid giving a comprehensive overview of the whole line. I missed the original Ronin and first Yojimbo but love my three Yo2's - two standard, one black. Design genius. I can never understand the tip strength issue as the YO2 is an SD knife and is a 'slasher', if used in the correct manner tip strength should never be an issue. Congrats Mike on an excellent range of knives, AL.
What's most curious about this is the initial hesitation about the effectiveness of a wharnie in self defense. Where there never any meat tests done at the time?
Awesome video, you’re a great asset for spyderco Mike, very talented designer, and passion for what you do. I’d love to see sal and Eric do a video diving into some of their biggest design legacy’s and processes of refinement on some of their best knife designs. I love this stuff. Thank you for the video spyderco
I really respect Michaels inventiveness and willingness to challenge common knife conventions. His popularization of the tactical Wharncliffe make him something like a modern day David Bowie imo.
I don't suppose that a blacked out Manix 2 Salt with G-10 scales is planned to drop some time this year? Preferably with an option to get a fully serrated edge? 🤞🙏🤤
Spyderco is my favorite “mainstream” knife manufacturer. I love their risk taking with different designs, blade steel and how razor sharp their knives are right out of the box. Manix 2 is my favorite Spyderco knife.
The Yojimbo 2 is easily my favorite design/knife from SpyderCo! Followed by the Shaman, Manix 2, Nirvana, Techno 2, Paysan, and Stovepipe. That said, I do feel the Yojimbo series is in need of a few upgrades. Those upgrades would be a sharpening OR finger choil (most important) and a permanent switch to MagnaCut & CruWear, allowing us to choose between the two steels. Other than that, I absolutely adore the knife.
Man so awesome to hear the history behind the jimbo and wharncliffe tactical part of it. Thanks Mike. I have always wanted one but due to health issues I cant afford it or if I could I would end up with something else but all I hear is there good but where I had never held one to see if I truly needed one. Ill have to go to smkw down the road and handle one
Great overview of the evolution. Got my MJ earlier this week. Very happy that the closed blade does not interfere with the compression lock... Like with the watu and lill native (and others?) Curious to know why torx screws not used throughout??
All the Jimbo/jumbos in Magnacut and CF please! Seriously considering an s90v sprint yojumbo on eBay but would rather have Magnacut for the combo of toughness and corrosion resistance
I have all of the Yojimbo and Ronin knives, what I would really like to see is a more premium version of the Ronin 2 fixed blade. Perhaps a redesign on the handle and just overall shape and grind of the blade as well. I feel that other makers are really putting out some great Wharncliffe knives, but would prefer to be carrying a Spyderco.
This one to Mike. Just watched the latest short on the black YO2. Re G10 patterning orientation on scales. Froze a frame and looked along from butt to blade tip and alignment of patterning is very skewed, off from being 'in line' with blade by some 20 to 30 °, also has curved look. Both my satin Knives (Yo2's) from 2016 - 2017 have G10 patterning just about in line with blade, this looks much more neater and logical and I assume this is, or was?, factory 'norm'. My black YO2 from 2019 has a slight 'downslope' of patterning when viewed from side which looks slightly odd but not overly so. Is this a result of G10 not being aligned properly when being cut?. G10 patterning is of course interlinking lines at 90° to each other caused by covering fabric 'peel off', looks much neater when properly oriented. Word with production Mike, Cheers, AL.
This will definitely find a way into my lineup for defensive carry. I have a Yojimbo 2 and a matriarch 2 that I carry. I can see the micro being a great backup defensive, primary or even just a good utility blade. Hopefully this knife gets the full spyderco treatment with varying steels available to satisfy the collector in me 😂. Definitely will get my wife one as well
Spyderco's business and success and passion for their craft are really inspiring and a model to be followed by other companies, not just in the knife industry. Really makes you feel good to buy from and support a company like Spyderco with so many quality people at the helm. Thank you.
I love my Yojumbo but I tired to score a wine bottle wrap around the cork and that simple cut blunted the tip. Maybe not the best use of this knife so just be careful how you use it.
No. Snody did it before him and he mentions Snody work in a few vid's. I was doing it before Snody but in fixed bladed fighters. The first actual combat knife victory with a knife was with one of my fighters in Desert Storm. He was a communications Officer who was jumped outside of their vehicle. It virtually removed the attackers head with one hit My Shop was next to F.t Hood, (The largest Military Base in the Free World. Snody really liked my design and Ken Warner wrote about my designs in Knife Digest years ago. (He named it "The American Straight Edge). The Loveless Shop was looking at producing a line of them. Sadly Both Mr. Bob and Jim are gone and I had to hang up making to care for my wife full time. It did away with the Loveless Shop's and my plan to make the Loveless Knives when Mr Bob and Jim Were no longer able. KnifeMaker/forced into retirement after over 47+ yearsdin the Craft.
Mike your a genius and I absolutely love your Yojimbo 2 and Yojumbo and I can't wait for the all black Microjimbo to be available for sale I been carrying my Yojumbo 5 years straight every single day. Plus I own 2 Yojumbos one in Satin and one all black and I have 2 Yojimbos I satin and one all black any knife you design or make I will buy as soon as it's available bottom line love you brother.
this man knows his stuff i have large beefy hands and his yojumbo fits my hands great ill be purchasing the microjimbo to carry at work to stay on the good guy side of things if you didn't know most jobs wont allow anything over 3"inches of blade im trucker and need a pocket knife for protection ,dont even know where to begin on how many weirdos i encounter and at the most random times ever its always when it slips your mind to be alert when you realize you stepped into something serious ,stay safe out there guys and m.j thank you for your knowledge
Suggestion! Nice knife and explanation and video quality. However, if you are going to showcase darker and black knives, you simply should not be wearing a black t shirt and dark background. It is too hard to see any knife details like this! Considering change the contrast next time and would be a much more pleasant experience for us viewers.
This man's explanation of why a compression lock is not just a liner lock on the back should be required viewing for all knife people.
Where can I find the explanation?
@@josephrobertsjr it's on spyderco UA-cam page under edge u cation.
That'd be on Mike's vid on the YO2 some seven years ago on the MBC channel.
Sorry, I thought it was in this vid. Horrible by me for not using an easy search. Found it.
It’s just a Liner Lock on the Back..😂
Never get tired of hearing this man talk about knives. I see a 20 minute video with Michael Janich, I click. Side note, I wonder if Tony used that tempest design as inspiration for the socom elite, def a strong resemblance
Oddly enough I have both.
Was thinking the same thing. How the thumb stud and blade meet the handle in the open position looks very similar between the two knives. Michael's handle design looks more comfortable, though.
Your Yojimbo 2 with the 5 x 5 pocket clip is perfection. Thank you for these designs!
I absolutely love the way MJ talks about the thought process, ideas and purposes of the various knife/blade designs.
I just found out that he’s doing them for 5x5combatsolutions.
Yeah...love that one. I have all 3 models. Also ground a few others down to match.
Just get a delica 4 and grind it down
I had the Kahr Delica in Khaki and sold it.
Janich!
What's so special in Manix though? Spyderco has done lots of leaf shaped blades.
It's locking system is one of the best in my opinion@@artiombeknazaryan7542
Yojimbo 2 is my absolute favorite EDC. I have numerous knives from fun to exotic. I live the hollow grind and never had any issue with the tip. I use the KME sharpener and it has a mirror finish. And... Yojimbo is one of my favorite samurai movies!
Big fan of Januch, love the Yojimbo and Ronin and the similarly tactical P'Kal all manufactured by Spyderco.
Please more video content like this!
I love the whole Yojimbo Line!
The Y2 is one of my favorite EDCs. Thanx!
The microjimbo is a great design as well as the yojimbo

Now we need a fixed blade Micro Jimbo . And a frn version , with colors , maybe a blue jeans or coyote brown like the Khar Delica .
Micarta blue jeans you mean?
Yes!
The Khar Delica is one of the absolute best knives Spyderco ever made
What's most curious about this is the initial hesitation about the effectiveness of a wharnie in self defense. Where there never any meat tests done at the time?
Thanks for the informative video Michael of the history of a great knife. Thank you for bringing the MicroJimbo to market. Always love your videos.

As always Very nice to hear this man's explaining about these designs👍🏻👍🏻
I don't suppose that a blacked out Manix 2 Salt with G-10 scales is planned to drop some time this year? Preferably with an option to get a fully serrated edge? 🤞🙏🤤
Mike I'm a 100 percent fan of you buddy and everything your involved with in making. Your the guy my friend.
Great presenter, innovative, a scientist, and a fabulous orator. I learned a lot today.
I think a Yojimbo2 in AEB-L would be sick. Thanks Michael for all you have done 🫡
Such a great watch. I could listen to him talk all day.
Spyderco is my favorite “mainstream” knife manufacturer. I love their risk taking with different designs, blade steel and how razor sharp their knives are right out of the box. Manix 2 is my favorite Spyderco knife.
Can’t wait for my microjimbo to arrive…thanks Mike for the effort and design this!👍🏼💪🏼
It's a great design, and being a full flat grind means it's a real slicer, I put a 15-degree angle that's 30 degrees combined at the apex.
The Yojimbo 2 is easily my favorite design/knife from SpyderCo! Followed by the Shaman, Manix 2, Nirvana, Techno 2, Paysan, and Stovepipe. Thanks Michael. I love my yojimbo 2, yojumbo, and ronin 2. Some of the most ergonomic handles I've ever felt.
I just got my micro and I am loving it so far wish it was a little thinner behind the edge but still love it
Great. Been thinking about grinding down one my Y2s. Now I gotta go turn it into a micro.
Very very good knives and great tutorial about how everything comes together.
Man so awesome to hear the history behind the jimbo and wharncliffe tactical part of it. Thanks Mike. I have always wanted one but due to health issues I cant afford it or if I could I would end up with something else but all I hear is there good but where I had never held one to see if I truly needed one. Would love to see the modified Delica/Kahr Arms knife make a comeback!
Please offer a training knife for the ronin 2, and a slimmer more easily concealed sheath
I have a spyderco ronin. Would love to see the microjimbo with denim micarta scales
More of these videos 😊 please 😊 Mike is such a treat to have. So glad he is with Spyderco. Please do the microjimbo exclusive with st.nicks first 😊

I’ve ordered mine up here in 🇨🇦. Am hoping you guys release a Microjimbo trainer 🙌
Any chance we get a FFG distal taper Yojimbo 2, nowadays they can grind that in house
This will definitely find a way into my lineup for defensive carry. I have a Yojimbo 2 and a matriarch 2 that I carry. Can you make one with a slip joint? Over here in Germany you can't carry something one-handed and locking, one-handed slip joint is legal tho
Looked strange at first the shape but think the micro jimbo looks cool
Are you still teaching classes, live in Colorado north of castle rock about half hour away
Spyderco's business and success and passion for their craft are really inspiring and a model to be followed by other companies, not just in the knife industry. Really makes you feel good to buy from and support a company like Spyderco with so many quality people at the helm. Thank you.
Good stuff, well done. I need a blacked out Yojumbo
I like the jumbo ! Great knife!!
Micro Jimbo fixed prety please, Mr Janich!
Janich
thank you Spyderco and Mike Janich for this video 👍🏻 💯 🙏🏻
You're basically a funko pop collector if you buy spyderco's. Never used, just collected.
Plenty of people use their spydercos. I'd argue they make some of the best user knives currently on the market.
True
I love my Yojumbo but I tired to score a wine bottle wrap around the cork and that simple cut blunted the tip. Maybe not the best use of this knife so just be careful how you use it.
Please make more Yo2 Trainers and Yojumbo Trainer
Pretty cool presentation. Appreciate the content
I prefer flipper openers, so I went with the fixed blade version instead, and picked up the Ronin 2.
How about a flat ground yojombo? Make the whole thing work pants blue.
I wish Spyderco would re release the yojimbo 1 .I love the original design .
Looks like good carving knife
Love Microjimbo, most definitely planned and anticipated purchase for me this year.
Would the Viking Seax fit in this category?
It just half razor blade on a folder that thickens up
Let me know when ya’ll make a carbon fiber micro-Jimbo. I’ll buy two
Awesome video. Now I have to get a microjimbo.
Outstanding video, thanks

Carry the Spyderco Canis as my EDC really like the wharncliff style
This was awesome. Thanks!
Thank you this was very revealing why this design was chosen
I love all my Yojimbo’s, can’t stand wire clips though.
I absolutely LOVE my M4 yojimbo!!!!!
I have the Yojimbo 2 in Cruewear and it's one of the nastiest cutters ive ever owned.
I got yo2 and micro the pocket clip on the micro is tight on denim hard to deploy any tips ?
When does it come out
How much is the small one
one in magnacut please
Love my endura wharncliffe.
So janisch designed the socom
this man knows his stuff i have large beefy hands and his yojumbo fits my hands great ill be purchasing the microjimbo to carry at work to stay on the good guy side of things if you didn't know most jobs wont allow anything over 3"inches of blade im trucker and need a pocket knife for protection ,dont even know where to begin on how many weirdos i encounter and at the most random times ever its always when it slips your mind to be alert when you realize you stepped into something serious ,stay safe out there guys and m.j thank you for your knowledge
Prices these days leave me uninterested in spyderco😢😢 my favorite knife company.
Yes yes they did, with M.Janich
I would like to see a micro jimbo in a fixed blade to 2:25
Passion is amazing but $200 for the knife is a bit steep.
Nothing like a deep carry clip when you find yourself in a position to need it in a hurry 🙄
Thanks for sharing brother 🤙
That 3rd one looked just like leek Kershaw
I dubbed my Spyderco Endura, Sir Wharncliffe :)
Please consider no background music in future videos. I wanted to hear Mr. Janich, not have him competing with the music.
Rerelease all black tactical yojimbo
I will own at least 2 of these!
Suggestion!
Nice knife and explanation and video quality. However, if you are going to showcase darker and black knives, you simply should not be wearing a black t shirt and dark background.
It is too hard to see any knife details like this! Considering change the contrast next time and would be a much more pleasant experience for us viewers.
Can always count on Spyderco... to raise prices. Lol good knives though.
hmm no original "be-wharned" in your line up
Way too expensive
He looks like a talking skull
I won't buy another Spyder compression lock. Hate it.
