Gotta give it to mth, this is probably the best sounding big boy they have ever produced, the radio excursion cab chatter Is always a plus and having the actual whistel recording on the model is really impressive. Nice showcase
WOW!! I have a lot of Lionel Vision Line and Legacy steam locomotives and some could only wish their smoke stack had as much smoke as that steam whistle!👍😃 Very nice unit!! Thanks for sharing Jason.
Well we watched 4014 roll into Topeka , KS on September 2nd this last year . Then chased it west towards Manhattan , KS for a couple of dramatic run by’s. Your model sounds exactly like the real thing . You model looks absolutely amazing too . Thanks for sharing
I LOVE MTH trains. MTH's premier line products are unparalleled. Your shiny engine is an excellent example of what MTH is all about. Love the run, and the engine. Thank you.
Simply AWESOME! I love how its in the restoration GLOSS Black... very realistic. Sounds just as great! Have fun with that Jason, and thanks for the great review!
Typically I am not a big fan of articulated steam engines but your really starting to win me over. Great review and you have an awesome rolling stock collection. Definitely your own style. 👍🏼
Beautiful O scale MTH BigBoy 4014 I love how it looks and how it sounds it’s amazing. Also I don’t know if you noticed this or not but I just wanted to point out the handrail on top of the front headlight is bent. Just wanted to let you know 😊
Thanks for this special sharing, Jason! Awesome sight, awesome size, awesome sounds! Shines like a jewel! I had the fun of seeing some of the excursion appearances made on 2014's tour of the U.S. on UA-cam. The excitement in the crowds was electric! A quote in a book about steam engines said that a steamer is as close as an ordinary person will ever get to the industrial revolution first hand. This makes that fact obvious! I can see why you're so glad to this in your collection!
Great commentary! Beautiful looking steam engine. I took the plunge and jumped on board and pre-ordered a Big Boy in August of 2021, 20-3808-1. Delivery was supposed to be the end of October 2021. It is the coal fired version. It was in the uncatalogued section. It must be the Mike Wolfe version. I still haven't received it yet, but after delivery which will likely be later this year I will be more than satisfied with it after watching your video.
Jason in your opening statements concerning the availability of MTH BB was in a way, welcomed news because I ordered mine from a well known dealer on 1/13/2021 and still waiting! I was anxious to get it because I built a suspended layout specifically to run it. Once I do receive it, it better operate like it is supposed to right out of the box and do so for a long, long, long time.
My understanding is that the Mike Wolf BB delivers this year. I'm confident it will work correctly out of the box. I seem to be the only one who had issues with mine.
Jason, my man, I have been waiting for your review of the MTH Restoration model. I have this engine and I have not opened the carton yet because I have two other Big boys in my collection. Your review with the differences between Lionel and MTH are right on track - plus they have integrated the new Promontory recreation. Please get the passenger cars so that you can run the Steam specials as well along with the auxiliary Joe Jordan tender if you can find it. Intergalactic video on that beautiful layout particularly going across the bridge. Looking forward to the continued progress.
Wow.....great video. Very informative and entertaining. She's a beauty! Thanks Jason p.s. stumbled upon the QLine in Detroit while on the web. Very interesting concept. I've always been around trolleys and the subway through the years. 👍
AWESOME STEAM ENGINE JASON I SAW IT WHEN I WAS HERE AT THE AMTRAK DEPOT IN DOWNTOWN HOUSTON THOSE DRIVERS ARE HUGE KEEP THOSE VIDEOS COMING JASON GOD BLESS YOU SHELBY STAY SAFE ;-)
This thing is a gem. Trying to think of how I can convince the Mrs. that we need one lmao. Side note, I'm subscribed but didn't get a notification of the video!!!
3985’s tender is still mated to the 4014 to the present day. It would be a waste of money to convert the 4015’s tender to carry oil when the 3985 is retired and it’s tender is practically identical to the ones used on the 4000s.
@@JDStucks There are absolutely positively no plans to restore the 3985. If 3985 is ever put on static display the 4014's tender will be painted to match and mated to 3985.
Awesome JDS I ordered one from the last batch over a year ago was supposed to be delivered in August still waiting once I heard the PFA announcements and that beautiful glossy finish I had to have one nice job man
I’ve never been crazy about the big boy. I’ve always preferred the more traditional look of a Berkshire or Hudson. But a have to admit your MTH big boy is a attractive locomotive.
Man i wish I had gotten my hands on one, wasn’t able to though, and they are no where online, hope they do another run of them but I thought they like are/went out pf business
Whenever I've seen a string of hoppers that have a rotary coupler mark (yellow paint) on one end, they all have the markings facing the same way (for obvious reasons, as trying to rotate a hopper that has two fixed couplers coupled would be a disaster). Just an observation, the 4014 is a beautiful model.
I’ve got MTH’s HO 4014. The sound is incredible on it too but my MTH Allegheny is loud enough to scare the neighbors! I would’ve liked to have seen more coal cars though 😉 And thanks for answering the gloss question but I do love the matt version more.
Great review of an awesome model! It was very cool seeing it run on your new (and developing) layout. BTW, nice Speedmaster. Do you collect watches too?
Thank you! I have the Speedmaster and a blue Seamaster. There is another speedmaster and planet ocean I'd like to add but just too expensive at the moment.
@@JDStucks Yes I did a quick reserch on ebay and are very hard to find and very expensive. But maybe at some point I will get something. Thank you for share.
David….Maybe in the 1800s mostly, but as time progresses flat paint schemes where cheaper and easier to maintain so I doubt the information you supplied was accurate….. but I digress 🤷🏻♂️

Agreed! This is an outstanding model.
Awesome locomotive 🚂 sounds identical to the prototype layout is looking awesome 👌 God bless you and your family
Thanks Eric!
Yep the Union Pacific big boy is the coolest looking steam locomotive ever known. Thank you for sharing a great video.

Gorgeous model of the Big Boy! MTH hit out of the park with this model.
Might have to find one.
Enjoy it Jason!
The most Luxury loco I've ever seen Mike train house did good job 👍🏻👍🏻 I've purchased one of those and putting it on my queen shelves 😊
Awesome engine Jason. Thanks for running it for us.
Absolutely ""coooooooool"! You have have to love the big boy locomotive especially in miniature, like a fine clock work machine.

all steam engines were all painted in gloss enamel
