I want to confess something. All these engines and their electronic sounds, they give an eargasm. It's so good I can't describe it any better than that. I can only wish to hear those roaring engine sounds IRL.
The shot of all the locos running is probably the coolest shot I have ever seen from anyones layout honestly. Only question is how did your circuit breaker survive that?
Good question! The tracks you see in this scene are fed by three separate power sources so I was able to spread out the power consumption. I also have 20amp breakers in the train room. Thanks for watching Scoobs!
Welcome Back ! I sat back and totally enjoyed your video. You are very informative and very well spoken. It's always a pleasure and look forward to your next show. Thank You.
So close, I thought the 2-10-10-2 would have the edge in terms of length, I thought the Santa Fe’s 10 driving wheels vs the Big Boys 8 driving wheels would edge the big boy out. Also, I hate to say it, but I think the New 2-10-10-2 has a better whistle.
When I unpacked the engine I was sure it might be longer but Big Boy reigns as the biggest engine. I really like the 2-10-10-2 whistle as well. An incredible sound! Thanks for watching Nick!
Great video Chris! That’s a tough one. That whistle on the 2-10-10-2 is pretty awesome, but I’m still partial to the king of the rails …… Big Boy! One thing I think would be cool, would be to put the 2-10-10-2 in Big Boys whistle mode, and if you have a secondary remote, simultaneously blow both of the two whistles together at the same time and really make some serious noise!!!! 😃
other trains that would be cool to see on this show: SoPac GS series, rf-16, triplex, pioneer zephyr, Texas special, Hiawatha, centipedes, anything british or european OMG THERES JUST SO MANY 😁 but yeah id just like to see them reviewed here, you are one of my fav modelers on the site 👍,
Idk why this came to me. But I like calling the 2-10-10-2 the Happy Family. I imagine the two sets of driving wheels as parents while the pilot and trailing wheels are kids. The perfect nuclear family.
Excellent video, Chris! Hmm… for the Whistle War, I think I might actually like the 2-10-10-2 whistle better than Big Boy (whoa… did I really just say that?). 😂 Also, your double-header of the 2-10-10-2 and the Black Bonnet Northern (complete with with Midnight Chief passenger cars), along with the Santa Fe Blue Goose and F3 consists, just made every Santa Fe lover’s dream come true. 😉
I personally love the 2-10-10-2’s whistle over 4014’s, it just sounds right. And if at all possible, could someone tell me what type of whistle the 2-10-10-2 had as the default option?
I've got an MTH RailKing Y6b, what a beast. It'll pull tree stumps! I had to get a Y6b, I wasn't going to disgrace my Class J by having it pull freight.
Hi Mr.RBP,I enjoy your videos very much and you are a very Knowledgeable model train enthusiast. I'm kinda the old guy on the block and have a question that I hope you can help me with.I have Lionel's O gauge sku#2231110 2-8-0 steam loco and would like to know how I can get the maximum smoke output from this train.I have 56 lin.ft.of track I run it on and I amd using the CW80 transformer.I use Mike's Mega Steam,I've tried 20 drops of fluid, but just doesn't smoke like the ones I see on you tube. Hope you can help me out and thanks for all the enjoyable videos!Don👍
A lot of old-timers here in Virginia would agree with you! They say the sound of a N&W hooter whistle echoing up a snow-covered, moon-lit valley at night was magical, mystical, and unforgettable.
Just I but three new n scale set to my train. Collection still work on the small layout but the train are running it on you tube keeps on collecting 🤗😇
0k Mister bigshot Katy my home repair is paid for now I have change for a train sticking those nice trains in my face I wish I could reach through the screen and grab one of them😬
I’m trying to build a layout, how do you wire the tracks like in a rail yard so only one train moves like with older ones, and all of the newer trains have their own controllers right?
Hi Matt, check out the O Gauge Forums for helpful tips on track wiring. It can get a little complicated when you are wiring multiple tracks and need specific operations. Will need a little more explanation that I can offer here in the comments. Lots of great info out there though for block wiring. I would start by looking up block wiring and you will find lots of great information. Thanks for watching!
I really like the black bonnet paint scheme and the sloped back tender and passenger cars however the engine personally lacks the thickness and the distance between the boiler and small wheels are a little disappointing to me. Personal opinion. Give me thicker body, bigger wheels. Sometimes less is more. My Allegheny or the S1/T1 bodys are great. Just looks fragile and the price is staggering
These are not as rare since they are currently in stock at most of the larger online train stores. They are built-to-order so the numbers are limited. I expect they will hold their value over time. Thanks for watching!
@@RBPTrains yea I know your pain, I build modle airplanes from ww2 and can only get so many due to not haveing enough room to put everything, I also did have a freighter I'd have to see which one it is and it was a pretty good running one, had nice speed control though it was really small and hard to get the cars connected
These Lionel locomotives are actually made by the folks who made some of the finest brass locomotives back in the heydays of brass. They still do the occasional hybrid projects for some well known importers. All around, Lionel and their supply partners have done a stellar job over the last few decades to produce the great lineup we have today.
Yep, I was torn between the Valley Flyer and the Black Bonnet too, but in the end I decided on the Valley Flyer and it is gorgeous, both are gorgeous! Thanks and enjoy!
I liked the whistle of the 24-wheeler. It is more like I expect a steam whistle to sound. The other one sounds more like a ship. The fantasy passenger set, combined with the new locomotive, was absolutely stunning!
Thanks Chris, that video brightened up an otherwise dreary day here in the Richmond VA area! Snow, sleet, yuck! That Lionel 2-10-10-2 certainly works better than the original ever did! The originals soured the Santa Fe on articulateds, so much so that to my knowledge they never operated any others again. Turns out the didn't need to anyway. The Virginian on the other hand had ten very successful 2-10-10-2's built in 1918 by Alco that lasted until the 1940's. Best whistle? I like the Santa Fe's one, it's a bit more melodic than the Big Boys. And I loved that Santa Fe "Railfest" you put on! Even the "Blue Goose" showed up! Cool!
Hey Wayne! Brightened my day too. Lots of ice going on out here so glad the power is still on so I can run trains. Thanks for the background! Always appreciate your knowledge! Glad you noticed the Blue Goose I snuck in there. Take care!
The swinging bell is the best one I've ever seen on a Lionel engine. The default whistle is definitely best. The second one is actually from the Southern Pacific AC-12 Cab Forward.
Awesome video Chris! I love the 2-10-10-2’s. I hope to get one for my birthday that is coming up. That thing is sick! I’m sad that they scrapped all of them in real life. Keep up the awesome work!
I just love the blackbonnet paint schemes on the ATSF Steamers. That is just so sleek and amazing looking. Also gotta love that turtle back tender.
I agree about the tender. What an interesting design. Thanks for watching LMR Trains!
@@RBPTrains how does the move back and forwards ?
WOW! Absolutely Beautiful! Phenomenal Collection. Thanks for sharing . The Doublehead is incredible!

I like the Santa Fe 2-10-10-2. Congratulations on adding it to your collection. Great video.
Thanks Davvon! Hope all is well with you friend!
Realy like the glossy black and warbonnet paint scheme of the 2-10-10-2 but the Big Boy gets my vote for the best whistle sound.
The shot of all the locos running is probably the coolest shot I have ever seen from anyones layout honestly. Only question is how did your circuit breaker survive that?

@@RBPTrains Anytime. I enjoy your videos very much, and you have great energy and enthusiasm with your videos. Great job!
Wow! Incredible engine! What an inspiration just like the Black Bonnet 4-8-4s.
As far as whistles? Definitely the Big Boy :)
You should try personally naming your engines, it's quite fun and helpful as well. I'd call this one Tenten for example.
Big Boy has the best whistle!
I love this Video Chris! Also for Whistle war, Big boy all the way!
Thanks Minoto PPT2! Big Boy is hard to beat!
Just got 3008 already had original 3000 love it! Will review it in a couple weeks once I get my hands on it! Would like to have that one too!
Imagine a 2-14-14-14-2 combining some of the biggest engines
I've seen the big boy in person and it was magestic
Jealous!
Big Boy still rules the roost !
i dont blame everyone for thinking the big boy's whistle is the best, its longbell hancock 3 chime is a really big and powerfull whistle in real life

What an amazing collection of bohemth engines always a fun video I still like the haunting big boy whistle 👍

that 2-10-2 is LoNg
I love your video and I love your big steam train 2 10 10 2.
What an awesome engine Chris! Love that tender!
I really like the tender too!
The best whistle is the Santa Fe 2-10-10-2. No doubt about it .Clear and powerful. Big bot's is a little fuzzy, as it is in real life.
Awesome locomotive man!! Every part about it is spectacular!!
This one grew on me. Wasn’t sure about it when I saw the catalog but the model is incredible!
Great engine and great whistle, but still the Big Boy is king
I've heard that atsf called them Santa fe type mallets
I read that as well. Confession- I am not certain how to pronounce “Mallet” and did not want to subject myself to the Internet for that one, haha!
I've been always pronounced it malley
I need everything in that room
Have you ever been to “Strasburg railroad?” They have steam locomotives you can ride behind! Edit: ITS FUN

get a PRR centipede and you'll never be able to beat that engine for length I have one and love it!
RBP, do you have a Norfolk And Western Y6b? I remember it had around 160,000 - 140,000 pounds of tractive effort.
I do not have a Y6B… yet. Maybe one day!
I've got an MTH RailKing Y6b, what a beast. It'll pull tree stumps!

I like Whistle 4 on the Santa Fe best
Big Boy!
I prefer the haunting N&W "hooting" sound. It has a penetrating, valley filling timbre that the others can't replicate.
A lot of old-timers here in Virginia would agree with you! They say the sound of a N&W hooter whistle echoing up a snow-covered, moon-lit valley at night was magical, mystical, and unforgettable.

I didn't know Jim Carrey was a train fan XD.
I still like the big boy whistle.
Best Whistle is on a N&W J IMO.
Amazing 🤩!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That color happened by mistake from a ink Era in a lionel catalog. Everbody wanted them but lionel refused to make them.
That cool… but how. Did you have two from math and one Lionel zw 1 power transformer it I see many train different on cab
Those K-Line passenger cars look awesome. I’ll be on the lookout for a set of those but I’d guess the odds of finding them are dismal.

the up big boy
I actually think the hooter from the Allegheny is the best but between these two I gotta go Big Boy
I love the 2-10-10-2 but I'd pick Big Boy by a mile.
I think the 2-10-10-2 takes it but only due to pitch in sound, IMO.
0k Mister bigshot Katy my home repair is paid for now I have change for a train sticking those nice trains in my face I wish I could reach through the screen and grab one of them😬
