      AI is key. You must have in depth diplomatic options and choices. Treaties, strategic resources, etc
      Russia is able to get away with what it’s doing now because of her strategic resources and international treaties. Saudi Arabia has been able influence others far beyond its military capabilities because it has such leverage on strategic resources.
      If this game doesn’t at least attempt to capture this element then I’m afraid I won’t be purchasing.

      Look its Stardock Games posting because they got positive feedback!
      Sorry but your game is very bad.
      Imagine making a 4x game where the only way to automove your massive number of ships is to also end your turn...
      You essentially made it so you spam end turn to move your ships which makes moving and scouting ... a joke...
      Horrible developers, horrible community manager and your studio is incapable of taking any criticism as you ban people for posting anything that isn't praising your game.

    Honestly, Stellaris is janky. There are plenty of things I love about stellaris, but the AI is worthless, and the combat mechanics are terrible. It also has a serious case of late game boredom.

      You're bored playing a strategy game? Shocker.
      Stellaris isn't about the gameplay, it's mostly about how it borrows from real life theoretical things that are actually possible. It's about its authenticity, the fact you have complete freedom to do as you wish. And if you're getting bored at the half way point, just change your settings to be a quicker game. There's a mechanic in the game for people like you.

    • @entelin
      @entelin Рік тому +3

      @@WhenDevilsDuel So you agree with me then? I think you mentally summarized my post as "I don't like the game because it's boring". That's not accurate, Stellaris is a deeply flawed game, one that I have some hundreds of hours playing. It has a great theme and style. But is it a great *game*? No, not really, it's gotten much better over the years for sure, but everything I said about it above is true, and you didn't refute any of it.
      Cid Meier once said "Games are a series of interesting decisions”. Early game Stellaris plays fairly well, however late game brings a lot of Stellaris's weak points to the front and turns them into real issues. The AI is incredibly boring to interact with and equally stupid from a tactical perspective, and even worse, it's not playing the same game you are, it cheats. Macro-management is poor leading to a lot of repetitive tasks, and the combat system is quite poor and exploitable despite a really quite interesting ship fitting system.
      You can't change settings and fix these issues. Making the end game "faster" doesn't change anything, nor would it actually be desirable.
      I really have little patience your mindless white-knights like you. Try to think a little more than "game bad / game good". A game can have some great qualities, and be enjoyable, while also acknowledging the glaring issues it has.

      @@entelin 1. the ai is designed to roleplay - not meta spam. The ai plays in accordance with its civilizations category in every way save for weapon types. And with the not so recent ai changes they made it hard to pretend the ai isn't capable of wiping you out if you yourself don't play meta - thanks to people like you who want to complain about difficulty in a game that's largely about roleplay over strategy.
      2. The combat mechanics are simple simulations for roleplay sake, and it'd be incredibly tedious if you actually had to engage with every fleet in every battle it participates in - and if you really want to, you can, the ai does technically but it's done imperfectly. Understandably so, considering the amount of code piled on top of code and amount of variations.
      3. I already addressed this, but again, there's in game settings for people like you who get bored fast.
      4. If only Meier actually made games by his own philosophy, nonetheless, irrelevant to the discussion, Mr. EA Awesome Button. It seems like you just don't like modern Stellaris as much as you think you do, it's just not your kinda game anymore. Especially if you don't like the government interactions which is literally the entire game.
      5. Aside from my patience with someone who just tried insulting me, nothing I'm doing is indicative of a "white knight". Just because I don't agree with you, sigh 😔 how incredibly arrogant and stereotypical of you. Sorry I'm an independent opinionated individual with their free thoughts differing from your own tiny world perception, but you might come to learn one day that most of humanity is the same, might - I personally doubt that you're very intelligent. I don't think Stellaris is flawless, and it clearly has much more growth to go through if the devs are willing, I just don't agree with what you think is wrong with it. You didn't even mention invasions and instead have only brought up mechanics that have already been changed, like one of my previous points said, it just seems like you don't realize you don't like the game yet. Because everything you complained about it is, literally - not metaphorically speaking but literally - the entire game.

    Stellaris has civs you created controlled by the AI. It has civs that are marauders, and sleeping giants. The galaxy is something some others have already fully explored. It has the khanate, L gates, and end game crisis.
    Yes, the graphics are less but a necessary element to something of this magnitude. I play with 1000 stars and have the most epic games.
    Stellaris starts the same, the numerous anomalies do eventually feel repetitive. (The dlcs help keep that fresh) and the decision making on that can also feel limited at times. It is just a tough game to beat and my vote is that it shouldn’t be beaten.
    GC3 should just be it’s own game that is fun for different reasons. There is room for both in my library.

    • @AndysTake

      Yes, what I meant was I feel like there wasn’t really that much to do, so I felt like I was almost always hitting the end turn button without really having to manage much in between. I also felt like I encountered anomalies at an insane rate, so these massive windows would pop up all the time. For some reason I don’t have a problem with anomalies in Stellaris, but I just felt like they took up so much space here. Again, might be the UI that does it, I don’t really know.

    I prefer Stellaris for a lot of reasons but glad to see some competition gets us all better games but idk I at the same time dont think they should be compared really as I think the draws to both should be seperate as I dont think one should or can be quanitifed as better if they are both refined experiences. They shouldnt be in direct competition setting out to do one formula better they should be different. I want to see different creative choices in how you build a 4x space game and thus I think its not about how refined or "how better" the experience is, it is about what your preference for the mechanics and the how the solution of how to build a game like this appeals to you and you alone. As an example, I love space 4x strategy games like Stellaris or Distant Worlds but I go to both for different reasons as I like the way the problems in illustrating a space 4x game was tackled by each team and think they both got their own merits it just so happens my favorite is Stellaris. I think the same should be applied here not saying its better or trying to 1:1 compare but appricate it for what it brings in its own right

    Recently discovered GalacCiv 3 a few weeks ago. Coming from stellaris I LOVE it. Stellaris feels too boring. Too big. Too micro-managey, too confusing. When something goes wrong with your economy or planets rebel in Stellaris, its game over. There are no tutorials for the game of any real worth as they continually are changing the underlying mechanics. And its mid game...I have seldom fallen asleep in front of a computer as much as I have with Stellaris as NOTHING is happening. The larger event screens and the different flavorful diplomatic screens of GC3 are a major step up from the tiny anomally and other screens of Stellaris. But we are all different and one mans food is anothers poison. I have sun so much real cash into stellaris I simply wish i could sell it or refund it all (good luck with steam allowing us to sell off games we no longer want)

    I like stuff popping up all the time. I have both games and I can say that GC4 gives a CK3 feel. Stellaris feels more like its own kind of take to the point I don't have anything to compare it to. The scope and size next to the fact that I can run Stellaris on full sized maps absolutely no problem, but can't GC4. The pop ups can get a little annoying, but it seems enough different ones that each pop up feels like I need to read them. Where Stellaris feels like the same old pop ups when you do get them.

    Wow, they did a _gorgeous_ treatment to their canon races! It's _gameplay_ that matters though. So just _having_ canon races is a bit disappointing to me nowadays (compared with the freeform empire-building of Stellaris). GalCiv also has a long history of feeling like you're repetitively hitting next turn without any important decisions being made and I feel like the genre should be past that by now (Stellaris solves it through real-time play. TW:Warhammer 3 solves it by having tons of decisions so almost every turn will contain one or more meaningful decisions).
    I may still give it a try, because I'm always willing to try new strategy games (and because fixed non-customizable races doesn't totally kill it for me), but it just makes me aware how much opportunity there is to strategy game development.
    * I'd absolutely love a _fantasy strategy game_ where you customized your race to the degree you do in Stellaris
    * I also just want more _sci-fi strategy games_ in the same vein, with that emphasis on empire customization.
    * I even think _historic strategy games_ can benefit if you do it the right way -- people definitely want history to determine the guide rails (which means less customization at game start), but the core promise of a strategy game is "what if" history where you get to explore different decisions each country might make. So I could easily see governments and trade policies and diplomacy and unit choices being so deep and intricate that by mid-game it feels like your empire is _completely your own_ even if you started out the same way as every Greek player does.

      To be fair though: You can have some dry patched in Stellaris, too where you have only few decisions to make in a couple of decades - but these are usually offset by moments of sheer overwhelming and at times, even terror.

    • @Axehilt
      @Axehilt 2 роки тому

      @@Exodon2020 Well at launch and maybe for its first 1-2 years, that happened more often since Stellaris didn't have all its modern features and balance. (However bad one thinks current Stellaris balance is, it was much worse at launch.) That said, I"m not sure Galciv games _ever_ got balanced enough to remove this flow problem. I think it was just a permanent part of early Galciv gameplay. Then on top of that, fast-fowarding to get through dry patches just flows way smoother than hitting end turn a bunch (since in most turn-based games you have to wait a non-trivial amount of time for all the AI to take their turns).

    Stellaris fan here, however by mid game I become so overwhelmed by my insistence on micromanaging that progress grinds to slowly to ever finish in a human lifetime. Played 100+ games, never finished. If Gal Civ 4 has radically less micro possible without robbing me of meaningful input into my development I would probably like it alot. Masters of Orion II from the 1990s was great because, by computing necessity I expect, it was simpler but provided players with substantial choices in development, including ship design & decisive tactical control. I don't know if the current computing capacity, complexity of programming and insistence on real- time play make such detailed human control impossible or if for some reason developers just aren't interested in that kind of human sovereignty...

I'm really hoping more studios try to take them on by going harder at the things that Stellaris wins on usually by default, and games like the upcoming distant worlds 2 are very exciting, we should be pushing the line between game and simulation with the powerhouse computers everyone has on their desks now rather than just throwing all the money we can find at graphics, and I'm honestly hoping the idea of goods as objects that have to be moved on freighters between systems to run your economy becomes the industry standard in the coming decades. But no matter what happens, I'll continue to wait hopefully for Stellaris to be dethroned.

    • @preuenthegreat518
      @preuenthegreat518 2 роки тому +1

      @@AndysTake that would be awesome! The system I'm talking about runs even deeper than that though, like in DW2 coming up the minerals from your mining base have to actually be put on a freighter and shipped to your refineries, and from their to your factories. Fuel needs to be put on tankers to be taken across your empire to your starbases to be put on actual ships, the food from your agrarian world's needs to be shipped to your cities. In order to build your grand armada you actually need to get the insane amounts of base materiels for hulls and very refined expensive parts for the electronics from all across your empire to your shipyards. When done right it brings so much immersion and makes it so that pirates and actual supply line attacks are not only possible but painful, as well as merchant empires who can become the backbone of trading systems even when they're not involved in the deal itself. A bit heavy on the computer but I would love to see that become the industry standard, as it just brings so much immersion, to me at least!

    Galactic Civilization is okay, but it's very rudimentary and lacks the grand scale Stellaris have, as planets and ships are smaller in scale and the older entries really had all things riding on space stations for winning, as they are the ones that takes territory and gives you materials.
    Stellaris has faults but there is way more content and easy modding in that game, but Galactic Civilization is more simple and is also just as DLC heavy as Stellaris. Personally I have played both, but Stellaris is more fun with friends and it's more of a feel of a actual realistic game, as you can't just B-line the most powerful tech, well you still can if you know what you are doing but it's way harder to do than in Galactic Civilization, as there are clearly tech that is better to take each time.
    Also I have experienced many times that my play style in Stellaris was change during a game, as a new thing made something new possible, like going from a pacifist to warmonger because of a event or that my main species changed overtime to something else. It's more of a surprise each time I play. Remember the Worm loves you.
