    Both are good games but Stellaris is still my favorite. What do you think? Are there any other game comparisons you'd like to see?

      I agree Stellaris is deeper but the basic combat turned me off it has, no tactics what so ever, biggest fleet wins thats basically it, it least Gal civs has a slightly more controllable combat system

    • @lonerstrategygames
      @lonerstrategygames  Рік тому +1

      @@WarrickBartley I agree that Gal Civ has a more controllable combat system but it's not always true that the biggest fleet always wins in Stellaris. The weapons loadout on the ships can make a big difference, I've sliced through much larger fleets than mine simply because I had the right weapons and defenses to do the job.

    i'm more of a stellaris guy myself. gal civ 3 never really gripped me like stellaris did. the fact that paradox supports their games for a long time is a significant upside. their games just end up having way more polish and content than any other game of the genre.

    • @lonerstrategygames

      I agree. I look for other games to compare to Stellaris all the time but Paradox is tough to beat.

      About the support given Stellaris: if it were just fixing bugs, that would be great. However I can't really say Stellaris is one game; I've played it a long time & every major update, and there's been many, makes Stellaris significantly different, sometimes enough to feel like a completely different game. Each time your older saves become incompatible with the current version. I have older saves, with enormous time sunk into them, which I can't play unless I go through the not so smooth or quick process of researching how to regress to an earlier version.
      I don't love having to continuously relearn Stellaris.

    As a big fan of Stellaris I would say good old Distant Worlds Universe is great competitor. (DW2 is out but but DW:U has more content).
    If you want to make another comparison I think DW:U is the one to be compared with.

    i love the look of these games so much but every time i try to get into them, i have gal 3 and stelaris with almost all dlcs.. :( I just cant get into them, i find i get bored then i miss the next step and I just sit there trying to figure out what i was supposed to do next ... not sure i have the patience for them anymore , some intro tutorials would be nice, With stellaris I feel i need to watch a bunch of videos just to ne able to get into it . and no matter how many times I tell myself I will do that I just dont , just had 3 weeks off and swore I would again ...but played 10mins turned it off...) im such a space nerd and i played these kinds of games in their infancy ... back when I could understand it cause there wasnt much to do lol

    • @lonerstrategygames
      @lonerstrategygames  Рік тому

      I know what you mean about the simplicity, I miss that too, today's games are much more complicated. Stellaris has added a lot of automation which helps, and Gal Civ does kind of walk you through the turns by taking you to actions you need to take via the turn button. I just get so immersed in trying to conquer the galaxy that that all the complex actions I need to take eventually "sink in."

      I am finishing up a game right now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I like the new sectors in the game and it still draws me in, just like Gal Civ III did. I unfortunately am tied up with a part-time job that turned into a 50+ work week (so much for part time) so I haven't had the time to make any videos lately, but hope to get back to doing that soon. If you like turn based space strategy games I'd recommend giving it a try.

    for me it's a differene of flavour.
    Stellaris feels bigger, vast and more "space empire-ish. But i dont like the pace of the events, which can often just come in so fast, that i cant really cherish them.
    Galatic Civilizations 4 I have yet to assess, but GC III has a major advantage over Stellaris: the modding! there are quite a few mods available (Nexus/vortex), which will give you a lot of options, to change the game to quite an extent. Also you can make your own maps, which is a shit toin of work, but super satisfying, when done right.
    So while Stellaris is the more serious (in lack of a better word), polished game, GC offers more customization over the mods (and i am sure that will not change for GC4).
    Both are great, but i found myself playing and enjoying GC III more often then Stellaris.

    • @lonerstrategygames
      @lonerstrategygames  Рік тому

      Yes, I’ve enjoyed them both a lot, along with Sins of a Solar Empire And Imperium Galactica. I think the fact that GS III and IV are turn based helps slow down the pace as well, Stellaris can get a bit overwhelming at times, I hit the pause button a lot!

  • @pixelotix
    @pixelotix Рік тому +4

    I prefer Gal Civ IV, a lot of it has to do with the open map and turn based nature. I also find that their systems have just enough complexity to keep me engaged, and abstract away too much micromanagement.
    I’ve tried 3 or 4 times to get into Stellaris, and couldn’t. I also don’t like the way Paradox does it’s monetization, both in amount of money to get all in, but also the confusing way they seem to interrelate their must haves.
    That being said, GCIV definitely needs some work. Excited to see where they take it.

    • @lonerstrategygames

      Gal CIV and SINS are close to being my favorites next to Stellaris. One of the things I don't like too much about Gal Civ IV is the open map, it makes your territory too hard to defend, but it's still a great game. As for Stellaris, I've found that out of all the Paradox games it was the only one I felt like I could understand well enough to play, but it can turn into a grind sometimes. Thanks for your comment!

    • @pixelotix
      @pixelotix Рік тому

      @@lonerstrategygames it does make it harder, yes, but I’ve never really liked the “starlane” concept. You are gonna have multiple angles.
      What’s fun in GC is you can station reserve fleets all around your territory and set sentries, with more powerful ships closer, and faster ships hiding on the outer rim to support.
      Star lanes are less interesting to me in that sense.
      Same in the sense of exploration. I get to pick the touring to take in the solar system, not just the 1 or 2 paths that are open to me.

    • @lonerstrategygames
      @lonerstrategygames  Рік тому

      @@pixelotix It does make exploration more fun, it's fun to see the fog roll back as you explore. I like the sentries and reserve fleets concept, my flaw is missing the alerts, or forgetting go set a fleet to the proper stance. But it can be suspenseful trying to get a fleet to a trouble spot in time.

    I am still playing galciv 3 . I like the fact that i can replace the character portraits with my own . I dont like the aliens pictures that come with game . I replace them with pictures of politians, famous people from history ., human characters from other pc games....etc. You can even change the text that appears on the diplomacy screen. Its really great. I changed the text and portraits to look like in alpha centauri. I find stellaris interface boring and the game overcomplicated. For me its not fun. Its more like work. Galciv 4 looks even better than galciv 3. I might get it in the future when the dlcs start coming out.

      @@lonerstrategygames
      1) numerous typos, no biggie, but annoying.
      2) During game play there were buffs that I earned and got notifications for, but the benefits were never applied.
      3) modal windows during events where you had to choose X, Y, or Z, but you couldn't temporarily close the window to look at your planet or civilization stats before making a decision. This one bothered me the most, in 4x games with endless stats there is no way a player can "what if" the impact of a decision without looking at their details.
      4) no summary of your civilization perks or weaknesses on any of the screens, so you need to memorize your civ or write down the stats before starting.
      These are the few I remember of the dozen or so I logged on the forum. You can find my posts on the forum under DAHRKSTAR.
