The new Volvos are incredible. My family needs are a bit bigger and we also need more ground clearance for the trip to our cabin in the Alps, so the new V90 Cross Country is on top of our "next car" list.
Unfortunately, the reviews of the V90 or the S90 aren't so great. It's a great looking car and it has really modern tech, but the tech tends to fail a lot, the engine is incredibly complex (requires heavy maintenance) and the driving... it's not very good. There is a serious lack of steering feel, no suspension feedback, the car is underpowered and it leans heavily in corners. It has been compared to the American station wagons of the 1980s. The sales numbers reflect it too. It's unfortunate because the interior is second to none.
Rear seat passenger should wear the seatbelt. Either that or press the 'O' button on the steering wheel to get rid of the big car-shaped warning with the red centre seat from the centre of the instrument panel. Voice control works very well on these cars in conjunction with steering wheel buttons. If in doubt about what to say, just say "Help" and it will give options to choose either orally or by button or by selecting a number of the option off the pop-up list.
Love what Volvo's been putting out recently. Looks like a bit tight in rear seat leg/foot room though. I'd be leaning toward the V90...(if I could afford one)
Enjoyed watching you enjoy yourselves. A couple of notes: the panoramic moon roof is standard on all trim levels. And although the V60, S60 AND XC60 do not offer carbon fiber trim in the interior at any trim level, the V90 and XC90 do offer it as an $800 upcharge in the R-Design level only. The V90CC seems to put the carbon fiber interior panels into the Ocean Race trim only (no R-design now on the CC) but I'm basing that only on appearance in photos. All descriptions available from Volvo say only "Volvo Ocean Race Decor". But as it's meant to suggest modern yachting, the carbon fiber trim might make sense there. Personallly I'd fit the Ocean Race with some very yacht-like wood , but damn if they failed to ask me.
Your guys’ videos are always entertaining and helpful, but your attempts at showing the nav voice recognition is always a fail, that’s because everyone is always talking over each other. Tfl thanks for reviewing a Volvo something totally different. Twin charged wagon is cool and the wife would agree. I’ve heard there’s a Volvo with autonomous highway driving. Alfedalzen? That’s misspelled german for everyone enjoy
Nathan's subtle references to Volvo's parent company (Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd in Hangzhou) talking to the GPS in chinese(?) really cracked me up.
Across the line, Volvo's are now all fwd based platforms with Transverse mounted engines and automatics. The exterior designs, the interiors and the seats are amazing, but they're not cars for driving enthusiasts. Also, given the complexity of that supercharged/turbocharged 2.0 litre mill - leasing would be a much better way to go
When were Volvos cars for driving enthusiasts? Volvos are for the 99%. I agree on the leasing. This car will give Tesla a run for its money on depreciation.
Sounds like a powerful fuel efficient car. I like the placement of the shifter to.When I heard supercharged AND turbo charged I was afraid the MPG would suck. But at 30 MPG highway it sounds like my concern on that was misplaced. Now my other 2 concerns that I hope are misplaced is 1-Long term reliability. And 2-Will it take a NASA engineer to work on it? Hopefully my concerns are misplaced, but I do wonder.

I've owned four Volvo's over the last 15 years, my last was a 2015 XC70 T6. The problem I see with the latest Volvo wagons is they've traded away valuable space for good looks. No one buys a wagon for looks but for practical space. The new V90 Cross Country has significantly less room than my XC70 despite it being longer. The same with this V60. It has less room than small SUV's it competes with. Wake up Volvo!
Getting out of these cars is really not easy. In an emergency test, call it the "oh bugger, my tank's on fire!" test [courtesy of Nic Moran 'The Cheiftain'] it would not score highly. In common with the 90 and 60 series apart from the XC's, the distance from seat base to the roof line aperture is very small, compounded by a very steeply raking windscreen which means bending head forward does not improve matters. Getting our of the back is no better as can be seen in the first couple of minutes of the video where Nathan obviously really struggles to exit.
Nicholas Arceri sort of is compounding but not entirely, there is a point in the rev range where both are working but the supercharger disconnects at some point. Blending strategy more than a compounding strategy

Or is this just some running comic routine that you've incorporated into your reviews? Btw is was painful watching you two trying to exit the rear seat.
Yes, I've been thinking I prefer the styling - in and out - of the V60 enough that I would probably choose it over the V90. But you two big guys in winter coats really fill up that cabin. (Guess other reviewers I'm watching are "mid-size" men.) I'm 6'3" and thinking that if I ever get around to testing them, the V90 will win me over with it's interior room.
