Hilariously, this is why I got my V60 Cross Country. Yes it's a 2017 model, but it does a nice job on trails and dirt roads. It replaced a 2006 S60 T5 that also bombed a dirt road in its time. Even only fwd, the S60 did better in snow than a lot of 4wd trucks around here.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! Sooooo beautiful!!! In the past, people who needed more room would buy a station wagon. It amazes me with all the dire predictions of climate change/global warming, North Americans are buying huge SUV's, while Europe is leading the way with smaller vehicles. It's a shame we can't get the Plug-In Hybrid version here in North America. This is one vehicle I'm just drooling over.
I drive the VERY OLD 1998 Cross Country V70XC and it's slowly starting to die from old age now that it's 21 years old with almost 200K miles on it. It's been a great car, and after seeing the new V60 Cross Country, I am sold, and will most DEFINITELY put my name down for an order for this car.
the v60 is - hands down - one of the best looking vehicles on the mkt .. the bigger backseat in this lastest iteration makes it very usable and practical as well. Some minor problems with the gorgeous but sometimes hard to use infotainment system would seem to be the only demerit. MPG could also be a bit better. I believe they are working on integrating mild hybrid tech into all their vehicles. If MPG could get closer to 30 without increasing the price point this would be a no-brainer.
As an XC70 (2004 & 2014) owner, I am looking forward to the V60 XC. I much prefer the wagon profile. Wagons handle better than crossovers and SUVs,~ there is still some little boy racer in me that prefers handling over space in the sky. BTW, the Volvo touch screen is easy to use on day 2, it becomes very intuitive.
Tbh this is the only thing (apart from money) stopping me from getting a new volvo. For now I'll stick to my little C30 until maybe the next gen of volvo hatches and estates/wagons xD
I don't really know why people are so bothered. :D I almost never need to use the screen. :D I set the navi before I leave and than that's it I just drive :D Maybe the camera when parking, but than I stop the car, so...
@Cowsy The C30 has been lovely so far in the month that I've owned it! The model I've got is the 2.0 L petrol. So not as fast as the T5 would be if your thinking of that but speed wise its what Id describe "adequate/pleasant", because it gets up to speed nicely without revving the balls off it but its not amazing fast either, its more relaxed. I can't comment on what its like compared to the golf but I have driven the 1.2L Polo before. The polo is suprisingly nippy at low speeds I found, but it lacks a bit of punch and feeling of stability at higher motorway speeds compared to the C30. In other aspects of driving I found the gearbox on the polo to be slicker and easier, with the C30 being notchier and more mechanical in feel. So its a toss up of what you prefer. The steering in both is pretty direct, you always know where your pointing, but not much feel from either through the wheel like most cars. I would say that if you need to park in tight spaces a lot the polo is definitely easier as its narrower (the C30 really does feel suprisingly wide at times) and has a smaller turning circle. Both cars have plenty of room in the front with the C30 having maybe a little more in back, but sacrificing a middle seat and some boot space. And both cars are generally fairly comfortable to drive imo. Personally I'd go with the C30 just for the look of it alone, I am a little bias though xD. But both are competent cars and I certainly wouldn't rule out either until youve driven them.
As a Minnesotan who has escaped the state for warmer lands - twice - but returned, the one positive aspect of those really cold winter days is some truly breathtaking sunrises and sunsets (preferably enjoyed behind well-insulated glass... with a crackling fire soundtrack in the background). Love the video (and the Volvos). Well done!
Loved that you mentioned your Minnesota roots. Record snows here in Minneapolis in February, 4-6" of snow last night. Sun is shining. It is spectacular here like it is there in Sweden.

I had a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9's (the tires used here) on my old V60. They performed well on dry pavement, just very loud. The Nokian R3 is the studless variant.
Hi Tom thanks for a nice vid! Very fun to watch! About the tires i would be very surprised if they were using any other studded tires than Nokian Hakkapelitta 8 (or maby 9) since this is the best tires there is for this condisions. The finns make the best tires for winterconditions - period! (I`m swedish btw). Second best tires - in my humble opinion - is the Continental ContiIceContact 2 tiers. All test during the past years puts the Hakka 8 on top and i use them myself 🙂.
I really like the V60 Cross Country Wagon! I really like Volvo’s in general! My first Volvo was a Grey 240 DL Wagon. Loved it to death. Rode like it was on a cloud. I think I might have to get the V60 CC Wagon. I’m impressed!

Another jättabra review from Voelk. Lovely to see northern Sweden. There's a Volvo dealership a block from me in NE Seattle. Look forward to drooling over these. By the way Tom, did this trip prep you for Seattle's Snowmaggeddon 2019?!

"well your a journalist you make tons of money ..... OH! SO MUCH" lol. the sarcasm was palpable. LOL (by the way, if i had the money, and could afford a volvo, the XC brand would be right on my sights, love volvo wagons)
Hi Tom, I share your gushing enthusiasm for 'ladder-free' utility vehicles aka station wagons and look forward to the day we have a full selection of them at approximately 50% of this price point. You also deserve great credit for being upfront about the generosity of Geely in financing the trip. Have you already calculated how many acres of Douglas Fir you will have to plant In Washington to cover your carbon footprint for this rapid fire visit to the Arctic? #SaveTheWagon
Pretty good review Tom. For me it was nice to hear your comments on the advanced driving beam headlights currently under review by our government. According to the IIHS website these may become legal in the US by 2020. About ten years after they were introduced in Europe. Also your mention of the less than easy interface on the touchscreen. Too bad they haven’t gone back to knobs and buttons for some of the controls. I’ve owned a couple Volvo’s from the mid oughts and loved their comfort and utility.
I do not understand why americans do not like estate car. You always had huge saloons we in europe love the estate car and they are more versatile than suvs . The mercedes e class cross county, volvo v90 skoda superb audi a6 Then we have v60 skoda Octavia, ford mondeo, peugeot 508, audi A4, vauxhall opel insignia (buick regal), vw passat, kia optima, hyundai i40, mercedes cls sb, mercedes cla shooting brake, toyota corolla, kia proceed these are just a small selrction of the estate car available across europe
Mostly the stigma associated with station wagons over here, along with there being no viable affordable option for people in the middle class. Station wagons are seen as old fashion and only for old people. Also, the only estates here are luxury wagons and crappy VW wagons. While in Europe they may seem reliable. Over here, they are seen as unreliable, overpriced, and parts are priced over the roof compared to competition. Not a middle class vehicle. Fun fact by the way. Most SUV's are really just higher wagons. Yes, they get similar gas mileage, room, and more. So there are wagons, but they are called compact SUV's in the United States.
Tom, glad you had a nice trip. If I was in the market for a $45kUS wagon, the V60 (T5 Momentun) is tops on the list; however, I'm not, so the Alltrack-S/SE 6spd is where my money ($30K) will go when that day comes. Volvos are getting better, but still too many add-on packages that kill the "value" side of the equation. It's amazing what the right tires can do. Again, Volvo has my money, if I had that much to give for a car.
Volvo has joint forces battlefield awareness communications, I'm waiting till next year when they bring out the weaponized version. No more soccer mom....now it's SOCO-MOM.
I enjoyed the humour in this review, as well as the review content :-) I'd have a V60 Cross Country in a flash if I won the lotto....it'll likely start around $70k in Australia though....
@@DrivenCarReviews Duluth is good wagon country! I am down in Minneapolis. 6 speed manual BMW 328i Wagon E91! Even more of a random combination in the USA haha.
I love the V60 and V90 I just don't have the budget. I'd need Hyundai another mainstream brand to offer one. The TourX is in the price range I just don't find it compelling in terms of what you get. The outback is slow, has a CVT and feels spartan. You pay a lot more for the Volvo but it's a beautiful car inside and out and feels luxurious whereas I find recent Hyundai's and Kia's to have better interiors than Buick.
Almost everybody sells budget wagons in Europe and almost nobody sells them over here. Hopefully these luxury wagons start a trend that filters down to the rest of us.
@@rightlanehog3151 With the prevalence of CUVs, larger space and low cost of fuel I don't see it happening. I'd love it but I'm not hopeful. One of the things that I've seen is a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy. The wagons cost as much as the CUV counterparts (V90/XC90) or are special order or limited in some other way then they don't sell. Then the manufacturer says see U.S. buyers don't want wagons. I can see the point to a degree most buying for utility don't really care about driving dynamics so may as well get a larger CUV for the same money. There are very few performance wagons and if they are offered then they are very expensive. E63, CTS-V, etc. I would love a wagon with a mustang or camaro engine for Mustang and Camaro money.
@@DrivenCarReviews I nearly got a 328i wagon at one point and I may look at CPO v90's. In reality I'll probably be like most of America and end up with a 3 row CUV (Telluride). The value proposition is huge.
Yes, which is why I mentioned them. But people should understand that tires make a HUGE difference. Most folks are too lazy and/or cheap to switch them out seasonally.
@@alliejr It's also law in Sweden to have winter tires during winter. They dont need to have studded ones but even Good Snow tires does all the difference.
Great review, as always! I'm sad and frustrated to hear that the new V60 T8 wagon isn't coming to the US. I've seen a couple of European UA-cam videos on it recently... Much better for a plugin version than either the S60 or the S90.
The drone footage was from Volvo. I think some photog tried it and had no problem (other than battery life would be cut short in the cold I would imagine).
Hey Tom, I assume you've probably returned to Seattle by now. And I'm wondering if you brought the Swedish winter with you when you returned. I hear that the snowstorm we've been experiencing this week in the south Puget Sound heaviest in 40 years! If you're in Seattle I suspect you feel like you're back in Minnesota...except for the hills and inexperienced fellow drivers, of course. :) As for the V60, what a great looking car. Over the years I've owned both a Volvo and a Saab wagon and loved them both. I'll never forgive GM for destroying the Saab brand but at least the Chinese were intelligent enough to infuse Volvo with desperately needed capital and otherwise leave it alone to follow its tradition and instincts. My neighbor has the V90 version and it's a great vehicle but the V60 is more my taste in terms of size. I was intrigued by the pilot program in Scandinavia you mentioned that enables Volvos to communicate driving conditions among nearby vehicles. Not appropriate for the US where there are too few Volvos to make it useful, of course, but if Volvo licensed the technology to other manufacturers it would be a useful feature. All in all, a great review in trying conditions. Thanks, as usual.
Most Americans don't understand a wagon handles better, rides better, mpgs, is safer, is way more versatile than any sedan out there.

Buy low mileage lightly used Volvos. Same thrill, less money!
Haha, “that’s why I moved to Seattle”. We got 12 + inches of snow in Seattle over the last week or so.
Tell me about it. I live in the middle of a very steep hill.
The days of knobs and buttons are numbered, much will be put into the touch screen. The right amount of buttons is an art form.
Love this color! Is it Denim Blue or Osmium Grey?
I do not understand why americans do not like estate car. You always had huge saloons we in europe love the estate car and they are more versatile than suvs . The mercedes e class cross county, volvo v90 skoda superb audi a6
Then we have v60 skoda Octavia, ford mondeo, peugeot 508, audi A4, vauxhall opel insignia (buick regal), vw passat, kia optima, hyundai i40, mercedes cls sb, mercedes cla shooting brake, toyota corolla, kia proceed these are just a small selrction of the estate car available across europe
I bought a V60 instead of a XC60 was due to the excessively high loading height in the rear. Otherwise the cars are essentially the same.
Looks a fun shoot, Volvo is definitely hitting them out of the park. The S60 T6 AWD is pretty awesome, a definite alt. to the German brands.
Damn! no T6 version of the cross country? Well at least the regular T6 gets it. Hope the base T5 is up to the task.
Buy a used, low mileage car and enjoy the benefits, it you don't mind being a couple of years behind the latest and greatest.
Massive lag at 3:06, didn't Volvo say they updated the processor for this year? 🤣
Keep in mind I'm wearing gloves.
Volvo has joint forces battlefield awareness communications, I'm waiting till next year when they bring out the weaponized version.
No more soccer mom....now it's SOCO-MOM.
The tires on that V60 CC are Nexen Winguard Winspike 3 tires?
Fahrenheit? I'm dying.
I enjoyed the humour in this review, as well as the review content :-) I'd have a V60 Cross Country in a flash if I won the lotto....it'll likely start around $70k in Australia though....
Tom! Awesome video! I truly believe in the wagon as well. I wish more people would give them a chance. And hey, you are from Minnesota?
Duluth to be specific.. And proud of it, if you couldn't tell.
@@DrivenCarReviews Duluth is good wagon country! I am down in Minneapolis. 6 speed manual BMW 328i Wagon E91! Even more of a random combination in the USA haha.
@@janikmahlen4893 Love MPLS! I worked at WCCO for a few years before moving to Seattle.
It's brackish water in Luleå...
Try used. I bought two XC70 in great shape, each for around 12K.
@@DrivenCarReviews I nearly got a 328i wagon at one point and I may look at CPO v90's. In reality I'll probably be like most of America and end up with a 3 row CUV (Telluride). The value proposition is huge.
You don't like ABBA 😡. Great quality video. Binging your uploads.
Fun! Great aerial shots. But I suspect 90% of the driving cred was the studded tires.
Yes, which is why I mentioned them. But people should understand that tires make a HUGE difference. Most folks are too lazy and/or cheap to switch them out seasonally.
@@DrivenCarReviews Agreed. Did not mean to imply you did not mention them.
@@alliejr It's also law in Sweden to have winter tires during winter. They dont need to have studded ones but even Good Snow tires does all the difference.
Just got mine fresh off the truck 2 days ago!!!!
Video review coming soon!!!!
Good job. Like👍
Nice review but I felt cold just watching your video
Great review, as always! I'm sad and frustrated to hear that the new
V60 T8 wagon isn't coming to the US. I've seen a couple of European
UA-cam videos on it recently... Much better for a plugin version than
either the S60 or the S90.
City Skylines music towards the end?
It's production music from AudioBlocks
Quite realistic place to test a 4wheeler! How do drones flying in this climate? Sorry that you don t like ABBA! Nice video!
The drone footage was from Volvo. I think some photog tried it and had no problem (other than battery life would be cut short in the cold I would imagine).
@@DrivenCarReviews Thank you for the Response!
As for the V60, what a great looking car.
I'm back and have shoveled my walk for the fifth time. Most people bring back a coffee cup or a T-shirt. I brought back a weather system.
