- Many of us love Buffalo Trace products, but how much should you pay for them? The secondary market makes prices fall all over the place for bottles like Blantons, Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, Weller, Stagg Jr, and E. H. Taylor Small Batch! I'm going to tell you what I think you should pay and how much is too much! Don't feed the secondary market!

Got Buffalo trace for 28 and eagle rare for 36 at my store recently great stuff
Couldn’t find eagle rare but got Buffalo trace for $22 at my specs
Are you hitting stores regularly? Going in morning? Do you know allocation days?
Just curious because I see people talk about finding these at retail but after about a year into this hobby, I’ve never seen these at those prices.
Insane
In Europe is find to get cheap and good bourbon
@@cb86258the best way to do it is go regularly to someone who regularly has good prices best way overall
Stagg for under $100 you have to work for the distributor, own a liquor store or spend $2500 a year at Total Wine. Outside of that your paying.
Yes they are hard to find- which sucks - it’s good bourbon and msrp is around 60- I got lucky and got batch 15 & 16 for msrp- haven’t seen 1 since. But I don’t think they are any better than Elijah Craig barrel proof or the Old Forester Single barrels - & don’t forget Russels Res. Single Barrels 🎉! So much good stuff out there!
I’m upstate ny, just checked online my local stores have it for 90 bucks 750ml
A few years back, my local store had so much they put it up front on display to move it. Around $45. Now I never see it. And Weller SR was just bottom shelf hooch for $17 that never sold. The world has gone nuts.
@@roccomac8943 looks like I picked the wrong time to get into whiskies
@@bobxyzp no, just don't follow the hype. Lots of good stuff on shelves under $40 - $50. Start a step or so up from each distiller's bottom shelf and see what you like, then go vertical. If some hyped bottle happens to be found for MSRP, buy it, but chasing and paying crazy prices is only going to end in sadness.
I think your suggestions are great as the FOMO(Fear Of Missing Out) is real. I would love for you to post a video about available alternatives(subjective of course) as someone new to bourbon could affordable enjoy while hunting for the scarce BT products. Thanks and keep up the great content!
Already in the works! Watch for it soon. Thanks for the comment!
It's sad because finding this stuff near me is nearly impossible even in your "Maybe" range. Went to a place recently that wanted $60 for BT, $125 for ER, and a whopping $200 for Blanton's. It's pretty much a museum there for their allocated stuff.
Insanity. My regular store got a bottle of ER and raised the price to $79, I walked away. Got the same bottle 2 weeks earlier for $60, used to get it for 40-50 when I came across it. Good stuff, but there is a lot of good stuff out there at a better price.
So far I've managed to get Weller for 30, BT for under 30, Eagle Rare for 45, Blanton's for 75, and Stagg Jr. for 60. Still haven't found any EH Taylor bottles for under 100.
I will say that the Stagg was much better for me than the Blanton's. Would probably pay 100 or even a little more for another bottle. I've had worse for more.
Glad to hear the price range for these nice bottles! Can you do another short like this but with Heaven Hill products? Thanks!
Fair assessment. Its crazy how some places jack the prices up on certain bottles. Total Wine always seems pretty fair though.
Love Total Wine! Thanks for the comment! 👍🏻🥃
@@whiskeybonded I dig your content. It's nice to see someone who is helping people make the right choices at a decent price. Us Whiskey folk gotta help each other out more.
@@justincowan7486 agreed!! Plus, it's the only way I can think of to try and fight the secondary pricing. I see some crazy stuff around here. It's insane. Thanks for watching! If you have any requests, let me know.
@@whiskeybonded have you done the Kentucky distilleries? I'm going in October and we have a pretty nice itinerary. Gonna try to get a lot of tours in. We are doing Makers, Bardstown, Lux Row, Heaven Hill, Evan Williams, Bulleit, Angels Envy, Michters, Glenn's Creek and Woodford.
@@justincowan7486 we had one planned and then Covid. 🙄 We're definitely going again. (I use to live there.) I'm looking forward to it. Have a great time and good luck! Maybe you'll get something special?!
Great video- good perspective! The 1st Weller Spec. Res. I got (a bit ago) was for 20 and I used it for a mixer- drinks ok neat. I pass on it over 30. Laugh to myself when I see it for over 80 and someone buys it. The msrp is still only 25
The fall season often has the local grocery stores re-stock their liquor supply. Buffalo Trace is around 23, Blanton's is 100, but no Eagle Rare, Weller, or EH Taylor, because other whiskeys replaced them. Bookers and a some Jack Daniels bottles became available.
Prices in Illinois:
• Stagg: $150-$250
* Blantons: $105-$150
* Eagle Rare: $50-$70
* EHT Small Batch: $80-$150
* Buffalo Trace: $40-$50
Buffalo trace raised the MSRP of Blantons. Used to be able to get it at the distillery for $63 out the door. Now after tax it’s $75 n change. I Just got my one bottle they allow every 90 days. They said they officially went up a few months ago.
This is really helpful! I’m just starting to build my up my collection and I’ve had many of these bottles with friends but haven’t bought most of these on my own yet, minus a bottle of Wellers I picked up for $50 for a gift.
In the last 6-7 weeks in N Illinois, I have picked up 10 x 750ml bottles of Buffalo Trace ($26.99), 1 x 1.75L bottle of Buffalo Trace ($44.99), 7 bottles of Weller Special Reserve ($29.99), 2 bottles of Eagle Rare ($34.99), 1 bottle of EH Taylor Small Batch ($50) and 1 bottle of Weller Full Proof ($54.99). Readily available after changing distributors.
Well Damn! I may have to move. 🤔👍🥃
A very useful way of looking a whiskies. Though prices vary depending on were you are if your over paying your over paying.
Where do you get it if not secondary
nice…really nice…good for you guys
i live in s.korea where every liquor price gets doubled over due to tax
so sad😭😭😭😭
That E.H. Taylor Small Batch is really, really good. A small independent store out here in the sticks gets a small allotment every few months and price it at $49.00. Well worth it.
That's a great price. Well worth it!
Living in Alabama, most of us buy liqour from ABC, which sucks! It's all over priced, can never get allocated bourbons. When I travel out of state I try to hit ever shop. Most of the time I'm paying a lot more by ordering from online sites! Love your picks man!
And this is why the only thing I have on the shelf now out of these is BT. In my area ER is $ 80-110 and blantons is 150-160 . I can’t find a EH Taylor to save my life
That sounds about right. I’m so glad the huge liquor store I work for never marks up. Also, I have never resold a bottle. I love E H Taylor, but we seldom get any. If I get some 4 times a year, I’m lucky.
4 times a year sounds great! EH Taylor is one of the harder ones for me to get at SRP.
Im glad i found this short. Ive been hunting a bottle of eagle rare in Houston. Heard good things about it. Only store that has it required that i sign up for thier points program and shop there every month while earning points (or else id lose them all). The points allow you to reserve the bottle. Their eagle rare goes for 120$. You just saved me a4 months and 120$ my good sir.
Finding Buffalo Trace anything in Houston is rough. I finally got my hands on some EHT after nearly a year.
Is 1.75L weller good or bad?
I guess I’m an idiot, but after years of trying to obtain Stagg, I overpaid. I hadn’t seen any bottles in months. I finally saw batch 18 for $300 and passed. I saw it again and negotiated $200 out the door. It’s $400 of more online. I did it once. I don’t plan on doing it again. Looking forward to opening it. Here is the thing. A pour around here is $30 for 1.5 oz. I’m paying $12 and keeping the bottle. That’s just how it is. I hate like hell to feed into the secondary prices. I’ve tried every suggestion in the book such as cozying up to store managers. It really hasn’t helped much in my area. Anyhow, thanks for the clip.

First, thank you for the Sub! Second, great comment and great point. I've paid a little over here and there when I really want something. Sometimes, the choice is that or nothing. $200 isn't bad at all for a Stagg. I'm pretty sure I won't see one for that. 👍🥃
Hey I just got a eagle rare for 34£ uk 🇬🇧 ! I’m really happy that I even found the bottle! I actually found a few more nice ones too! I got the buffalo trace for 20£ thats amazing I got the makers mark for 45£ too I’m exiting to try these out I’ve only been in to jamesons Irish whiskey 🥃 but I’m sure I’m really going to enjoy the eagle and the others I got of the internet! I was looking at pappy van winkle!!! Haha needless to say I VERY OBVIOUSLY SKIPPED THAT ONE! Yeah 5 k a bottle is not for me thanks for your video man I knew I made a good buy with these
depends on where you are. many places you are lucky to find any of them
Thanks for getting to the point! Perfect info and I agree 100%
See the problem with prices is that depending where you live, even the liquor stores have caught up to the secondary market and just price everything accordingly already. Can never find anything at the prices UA-camrs quote anymore, it doesn’t matter how long I look at local stores.
I’m in Australia and bourbon availability and prices are wild.
Buffalo Trace, common, $55-65
Weller SpR, rare, $100-200
Eagle Rare, common, $90-120
Blantons SB, common, $130-150
EH Taylor, occasional, $100-300
Wow! 😔
The highest 2 bottles I have paid over MSRP are my first EHT small batch and my first bottle of EC toasted. About 30 above MSRP on both. Have since found them multiple times at MSRP.
EHT for $30 could be doable in a pinch. MSRP on either is a no brainer!
Use more acronyms please
It kind of depends on whether it's your first time. I just paid 65 for ER10 because I've looked in multiple states and finally found it.
Agreed!
I worked at a bar in CA about a decade ago and we had eagle on happy hour for $5 a pour for months. Miss those days!
😔
I buy EH Taylor for $40 here in Texas 🤘🏽
I’ve been hunting EH Taylor since Day 1. Still no luck, Mass is tough for bourbon everybody is a museum out here
Where I live (BC) there is no secondary and you can add 40% to the US price for exchange.
Blanton’s at my local total wine in Long Beach, CA goes for $90. Stagg about $50-60. Last time I bought Eagle Rare from TW was $45
I respect what your saying but if you live in a state like NC it’s basically impossible to find any of these bottles outside or regular buffalo trace for msrp. I’ve had to go to South Carolina to find allocated bottles and even then I end up having to pay secondary prices luckily the store I go to doesn’t have an egregious markup at least in my opinion. I’ve also tried ordering allocated bottles online but by the time you factor in shipping and handling and taxes on a lot of bottles I’d be better off making the drive to SC and buying it at secondary price in a store. I’ve found that being a bourbon hunter in NC is extremely difficult because apparently when we get rare bottles like stagg Jr fancy restaurants already have agreements with the abc stores to buy it before it even get to them leave hardly any for other customers.
Thank you for the well thought out comment. I'm aware of the challenge that varying state laws create. It makes my choices while making content difficult. 🥃
Happily paid $130 for an E.H Small Batch recently. Hard to find around here. Definitely one of my favs.
You can buy better bottles for that price man. I get it Is hard to and for me as well max but I have got it make 2 times. But I would not pay more that 90 for that
It’s what we pay for it and anything close to it in Canada.
You need to do another couple series of these
It’s ridiculous what some pay for alcohol period not just BT. We can only hope the secondary market starts taking a beating. And seeing how many distilleries are really upping the prices of their premium offerings it will make the secondary market really have issues driving up the price that people finally say no thanks.
Paid 36 for BT yesterday, was the last bottle on shelf
Where u find these at those prices..all the stores around here mark up so bad
Takes some looking and talk to the staff in the stores! 👍🤞
I was almost jumping for joy when I found Eagle rare for $50 today. Every place I’ve checked is all $70+
I saw one bottle of ER for $35 and walked because it wasn’t what I was looking for. Picked up a bottle of single barrel select yesterday for $50. Should’ve picked up that $35 bottle when I saw it….
Just saw these at a local Liquor store in North Georgia.
Buffalo Trace $36
Eagle Rare $50
Blantons $159
EH Taylor SB $139
Is that common there or high priced?
@@whiskeybonded the BT is available at some of our bigger stores right now for $26, the ER is about average other than one place where the guy is asking $75! It’s the first time in awhile I’ve seen Blantons available here so hard to say and the Taylor when I’ve seen it elsewhere was pretty close to that. I just got to Maggie Valley NC last night, going to check the local ABC store to see if they have any hidden gems today. 🥃🥃
In the Atlanta area I could find most of those in the defiantly price range except Stagg. I haven’t seen Stagg under $150plus buying a $70 store pick.
I agree 100% but I live in NY and those price are almost impossible to find
I found eagle rare at a store for 37 and bantons for 75 up here in Canada
Buffalo Trace 19.99 at my local sams clubs and Costcos
when we just walk into buffalo trace and buy but at below MSRP the joys of being local and knowing whats beings sold and when the joys of having someone who works there
I bought EHT small for 100 and I’ve had damn near 100 bourbons and it is definitely top five. I would again, but it is one of the few.
That's a personal favorite for me too!
@@whiskeybonded I see it so rarely that it is damn near impossible to pass up at 100 or less. I understand hype and all but I truly believe it goes beyond the tatership. :)
I would spend over 100 for stagg! Can’t find that on the shelves in the PNW
I’ve paid $200 for Stagg a lot, I like it and really care less what others tell me to pay for it.
Same here it’s tough to find in my area the price is what it is if I don’t buy it at that price someone else will
I have seen them for a lot more. That price seems reasonable for secondary in the grand scheme of things especially if there is an amazing batch.
You guys are the problem, if people would stand their ground this wouldn't happen
That's a bit up there, I'd probably go up to $150 but no more. I usually get it for around $130
@@Shrike2415 that's disguting.
I bought two stagg 22A today for 120 a piece. Good luck finding this one or any stagg for less than 180
Wait, you said you just did. 🤔
As a Canadian we can only get Buffalo Trace, Whellers and E H Taylor’s. Wish we could get Eagle Rare (Blanton’s will show up for $130+ form time to time). Buffalo Trace is $45 and Whellers is 45, E H Taylor’s is $120+. I usually go with the Green Whellers because it seems the most response price. Buffalo Trace used to be cheaper a few year ago until Bourbon blew up in Canada.
Great comment! Is it taxes that push prices up? 🤔
The little liquor store near my house let me get two EH Taylor small batches yesterday for $57 apiece. I went in the parking lot and did a dance.
🤣🤣😂
A year later and secondary is only getting worse. I just got Blantons for 85, Eagle Rare for 50 and EH Taylor for 60. It’s nearly impossible to get here so I’m happy with those prices.
Just tried the Eagle Rare and it’s the first time I’ve had it. It might be the best whiskey there is for the price… I haven’t had a LOT of whiskeys yet but goodness it’s delicious!
The secondary is going to get better, but Suggested Retail Prices have gone up. Can't win.😐🤣
@@whiskeybonded oh gosh😂 I picked the wrong time to get into whiskey🤦🏼♂️
@@marcus31599 🤣😂
Everytime I see Stagg Jr or Blantons anymore they are at least $200. Sucks. I know it isn't mentioned but 2 local stores both have ORVW. One store is $1000 the other is $2000.
Just was a bottle of Blanton's at my local liquor store here in southern California for $300.
Definitely not worth $300!
It's ok for your first purchase to get you over the unicorn hump, but definitely do not go that route on your second bottle. Stay on the hunt my friend.
Ooh, they got you good
Paid 185 for one in Los Angeles 😢
EHT is a unicorn in my part of Texas.
Here in Louisville KY it is IMPOSSIBLE to get any of these bottles in the “maybe” price tier in this video. They pretty much double all msrp. Eagle rare for 90 dollars. Buffalo trace for 45 dollars. It’s ridiculous I can’t get any of the bourbon I’d like to get lol
I used to get Blantons for MSRP at the state ABC store before the collector market and bourbon posers started running up prices. I love it and keep a couple for myself but I'm partial to the fine spirits by Eddie and Jimmy Russell
Located Southern California, just got Eagle Rare for $39--pretty fair, Blanton's for $99 and Talyor Rye for $129 and small batch for $99 lol.......
I'm located in socal also and found my first bottle of ER for $70...
I've only seen an eagle rare $79 to $89 in my area in Kentucky, mind you...
that horrible, it’s $39 in atlanta
BT is the only one on that list I got for msrp. The rest were at the middle of the “maybe” prices. FML 😅
Aye a man with taste colonel Taylor whisky is my favorite too a lot places be taxing for it though but when I’m able to find it for a good deal I can’t pass up
I could never find a bottle of Buffalo Trace. Which considering I lived in Kentucky felt criminal.
Finding any of these bottles in most parts Pennsylvania are next to impossible. BT will occasionally be on the shelf, but rarely. I have not seen Eagle Rare sitting out in the last 3 years. As for Blanton and EH Taylor…..NEVER
Would never pay even the lowest amount for Blanton's. I recently did s taste test with it vs EH. Not even close.
I definitely agree.
I live in Ireland 🇮🇪 Buffalo Trace €40, Blantons gold €255 Blantons single barrel €275. Can't get the others.
I bought a bottle of eagle rare for 84. Definitely too much, but this is my first time owning a bottle and when I first tried it at a bar i liked it a lot.
Update after trying it 30 minutes ago before uploading this comment, it’s not worth 84 😂
Still good though
This Eage Rare thing is weird, because here in the UK it's freely available at RRP in most supermarkets. It's about £35 quid (so about $43 dollars).
Got my buffalo trace 24 on sale
In the northeast, all these are min $40
Seriously? I'm in the north east and all these are 50 minimum. I've seen BT at 100.00$ in stores.
Stagg Jr is 315 bucks in Australia. (215 usd). Insane markup
It's like that most everywhere. That actually better then the average I see here ($300!)
Blanton’s was $64 at my liquor store in Columbus Ohio and they can’t mark it up.
Wow - it really must depend on where you live. I’ve never seen Blantons for under $140 and it’s normally $170-190
@@cb86258Ohio operates under an ABC so it is price controlled. Lots of states that do but it does hurt availability with the allocated stuff.
Right on! Love these, but not secondary prices.$$$
I’d pay up to $100 for Stagg but no more then msrp for the rest. It might take some time but believe me you’ll feel so much better about it once you find it for retail!
I like videos like this honest reviews
My experience as a bartender is after the 5th drink you can substitute boar piss for top shelf, and all the pretentious connoisseurs wouldn't know piss all.
It’s true. For my home bar, I pour generic booze into branded bottles. Nobody’s caught on yet.(I don’t do this with scotch or bourbon though)
Buffalo Trace is $25 in my area so that’s a no brainer.
Eagle rare is $75-80
Blantons is $120-$130
So haven’t pulled the trigger on them yet
10 years ago Weller was my go-to coke mixer for cheap parties. 20 years ago Eagle Rare was my everyday mixer parties. And not much farther back I could buy Pappy for $50 and didn’t think it was all that special. Don’t be a fool guys. There are other liquors out there that are still great value. Rum especially is still great value. But I’m disappointed by what $50 gets you today with bourbon.
damn dude the buffalo trace at a store near me the best one that doesn’t charge rediculous amounts charges 46 for buffalo trace and over $120 for the blanton
I want eh taylor cant find it
Eagle rare for $28 and its always stocked near me
Stagg at 150 is reasonable. It's amazing and quality isnt reflected my it's low msrp. If it was turkey juice it would be 200 msrp
Can't find anything but the Buffalo Trace in stores. I won't buy on the secondary market. Liquor stores sell all their inventory to friends and relatives to resell
Does total wine sell at msrp?
Pretty much.
@whiskeybonded it must vary heavily state to state then bc that's where I buy and the prices are as follows.
Eht sb-74.99
ER- 42.99
Weller green 1.75- 49.99
Blantons single barrel- 82.99
Weller 12 yr - 67.29 (after tax)
What state is the cheapest. Very vague pricing rundown in this video it would be helpful to call out msrp as an absolute price that way you can determine if it is marked up or not. Msrp has significant margin priced in and I hate greasy price gougers
Got a liter of Weller SR for $33, seemed like a good deal, it's funny cause cwspirts sent me a offer to buy a 5th of it for $120 the other day.
Most stores around me in California are charging triple MSRP for Buffalo Trace and Heaven Hill which is wild. Cheapest I’ve found EH Taylor BiB is $99 bucks. I found a store that had Blanton’s for $129. Luckily BevMo and my local Vons grocery chain charges MSRP or less if on sale for everything else. I can get Eagle Rare I think it was 46 and my Evan Williams BiB for 14 bucks. Gonna keep looking to see if I can find that special liquor store diamond in the ruff where I can buy the limited stock stuff for a more reasonable rate.
What part of CA are you in? You're right to try and find a small store that will work with you or be reasonable. That's been working for me a lot lately.

Paid 65 for eagle rare. Never had it so decided to pull the trigger.
Worth the money to experience... What do you think??

I pay double on secondary, get what I want, and dont have to waste years of time, and hours of hunting, waiting in 3 hour lines in the snow and all that gas money to pray i get something. Paying double on secondary is easily worth it and why those sites are booming. Time is money, some people get lucky and randomly walk into a store and find them, but for allocated its pure luck. If you are too poor to pay double, you def shoudnt be in the bourbon game with the big dogs.
Careful, ability to pay and willingness to pay aren't the same. I know some wealthy people that are cheap. Otherwise, I agree with you. 👍🥃

I’m new here how tf do I stay away from secondary prices?
Depends on your state, but relationships. Talk to people that are into whiskey and the ones that work at the liquor stores.
My local has that Blantons going for 200.
I'm glad Meijer Walmart and Total Wine are crushing the secondary Market I do not patronize any liquor store that marks anything up to those ridiculous prices I have been seeing
TW definitely does markups, but at least it's not insane. I can usually get the same bottle at Meijer for $10-$20 cheaper, weather permitting
