Is it wrong that i put coke with it??
Is it wrong that i put coke with it??
Shout out to my father. He's been a mash cook at Buffalo trace since the 70s
About 15 years ago, I worked for a big package store in Indianapolis. Back then, all package stores were closed on Sunday. One week, the owner took the crew down to Bardstown for a private tour and tasting. We tasted 5 barrels and chose 2 to have bottled for our store. It was very cool. It was like spending the afternoon in a bourbon commercial, all the barrels and dust and raising glasses in beams of sunlight.
Finally found Buffalo Trace at Kroger. Only $25 and I'm impressed.
I found it for $27 at a local liquor store, but only after I asked if they carried it. It’s all behind the counter!
Buffalo Trace is the first bourbon/whiskey that I really enjoy. The first time I ever had bourbon was Jim Beam, and unfortunately I drank the whole bottle, and blacked out. It’s 4 years later, and I’m just now starting to enjoy the dark side of liquor again.
I don't care for whiskey much for the most part but I like BT. I think it's funny he doesn't know what anise is. Guess he's never had black licorice
Anise is the flavor associated with black licorice. It is pronounced as "a niece".
No its pronounced " fuck off comment Nazi"
@@derkaiser42o48 He specifically asked how it was pronounced.
It’s more “uh-niece”
@@eternalfps3124 Very true. I was thinking the short a sound, but this is a much better phonetic representation.
Wrong. It's pronounced like "an-uhs". Like Anus, but short A, lol
Buffalo Trace doesn't get the recognition it deserves, imo. Maybe it's not as complex as some would you, but it has a great nose, great taste, and an excellent value for the price. Just an all-around great bourbon.
Feels like it might be getting a bit too much recognition now, I haven’t found a bottle in central IL in months!
It doesn’t get recognized in the mainstream world like Jack Daniel’s or Jim Beam but among cocktail aficionados and whiskey enthusiasts it’s well regarded overall. I think it’s well above average and definitely worth buying.
Buffalo Trace compared to more refined Sazerac offerings, you are spot on in your review. Buffalo Trace compared to other whiskeys in this price range, I would put a +2 on all your scores.
Your Bourbon for beginners video was spot on about Buffalo Trace, if you don’t like it then Bourbon probably isn’t for you. It’s a great starting point and must have at that price. I just bought one of their Single Barrels! 😋👍
That’s some really good stuff! Bought a bottle a couple of towns over from me for that price. Then I saw some at a smaller store in town where I live for like double that price. I have since stopped shopping for nicer bottles at my town’s shops and have instead decided to make the trip to bigger stores for better prices haha! Great content as always, much love from Texas!
Great vid as always. I used to drink a lot (some could say I was a “functioning alcoholic”) I quit going on 3 years now because I promised my father on his deathbed that I would never get drunk again and I remain true to that promise till this day. What’s crazy is your personality and demeanor, hell even your physique 😅 is pretty similar so you definitely could have been in his group of friends. I just tell you this because the only time I’ll drink is on his birthday and the day he passed. Like you my dad loved his bourbons and his “Whiskey”. His favorite was wild turkey 101 but the bottle he had the day he passed was a gift box set of good ol crown royal so that’s usually what we drink on those days. As you can imagine after three years between my mom and my 2 sisters it’s getting pretty low so I just wanted to say that after watching your videos I appreciate what my dad was into when he wanted to try and stray away from his traditional wt 101 or his bottle of occasional buffalo trace. I wanted to personally say that I really enjoy your videos and I know that this channel is going to get a million + views with your “smooth” attitude and your “100 proof” outlook on life! ….PS I can also say that I have watched enough of your videos to know that you kind of hate reading a novel/small print on the side of the bottles sooo sorry about the long text btw!!😂😂😂
Someone wrote a short story
Hey man - good for you for keeping your promise. God bless.
Just picked up my first bottle of thiy today. Gotta say spot on review. I wish the tasting notes were a bit stronger but damn she's smooth. I picked up a bottle for 25 at Wally world. Can't complain.
Love this whisky. It is the bottle that got me to like bourbons without mixers. Been able to find these in Southern Louisiana for around $24.
Buffalo Trace Original was a well serve at most bars and restaurants. Great to see it mature to a more limited service
Anise is a licorice type flavor, Sambuca is an Anise flavored liquor
Thanks!
Hi Brrwzle sir I'm from South Wales uk and I started drinking Buffalo trace because of your recommendation!! Thanks mate I'm sooo glad to you!!! 1st bottle and loving it.
Trace and Woodford are two of my favorites so the two being scored similarly sounds about right.
I love BT. It's one I go back to when I just want a bourbon I know I like. Although I haven't been able to find it in almost a year (and I live in Kentucky)
It's always stocked up in Newfoundland Canada. Not sure why you can't get it in Kentucky.
I see tons of it everywhere, I don't know what anyone likes about it. I have always considered it a bourbon for non-bourbon drinkers.
Great review. I just picked up the only/last bottle at my local grocery here in Washington State, on sale from $34.99 to $32.99. It was fun to drink it as you were reviewing yours and pick up on some of the things you were describing.
I've had several bottle's of buffalo trace, each are different. The one I still have has a mellow grape mid pallet that ends with a creamy almost whole milk like consistency. Overall it's sweet flavors make it my go to.
Just picked up a bottle of buffalo today for $25 love it an your video s
Buffalo Trace is allocated here in Alabama, but I found a little Mom & Pop secondary store just across the Florida border that keeps it stocked for $30 a bottle. She said she can even get 1 or 2 1.75 liter bottles. I love this stuff. To my palate it tastes better than the much more expensive (and rarer) Blanton's Single Barrel.
Where about?
Not anymore lol. I’m in Destin Florida and it’s allocated now. 1 bottle per person at 45 bucks
Love your video's. Great all around.
I agree with Woodford being slightly better but it's also almost twice the price so I choose BT when it's available. Usually use it for an Old Fashioned and quite enjoy it
Just got my 1st bottle of Buffalo Trace today, gave it a whirl and came out with the exact same score of 24 as TJ. It has a great sweetness that gies great as a mixer to a coke zero or sugar-free soda. At the lower end of the price spectrum I can definitely see this working into one of my day to day go to's just lacking on the Proof.
I typically get oak forward tasting notes on BT. The other notes are not as pronounced. Still a good solid daily drinker or mixer for old fashioneds or Manhattans.
I found this heavy on vanilla. Especially on the finish. Thanks for the video.
I suspect the anise aroma and taste given more time and mixed into a sweeter profile would become more of a grape taste which happens to be one of the potential flavors some people say they get when drinking Eagle Rare. The flavor and proof jump from those that usually drink just the 80 proof stuff will shock some people who need to get used to the stronger punch higher proof whiskeys provide.
I agree with you on this. I like BT but prefer Woodford Reserve.
Buffalo Trace is my #1 go to, bourbon. LOVE IT
Love your work. You are lucky, it’s plentiful over here at about $60 New Zealand bucks ( Roughly $35 US) but ours is now only 80 proof . The difference between 45 and 40% abv is quite drastic .
You can get the 90 proof in NZ. You need to hunt around
Saw you at the auburn lottery drop! Thought you looked familiar. Ended up getting a lottery spot in line, great day!
Definitely not in every store in the PNW but when I found it purchased the last two and a bonus bottle of eagle rare.
This is one I make sure I always have a bottle of on my bar. It’s a little hard to find in the area of Ohio I live, but luckily it pops up every now and again in the local liquor stores I frequent and I am currently stocked with 2 unopened and one 3/4 of the way enjoyed. It’s a damn solid bourbon for any guests to partake in and I actually have no qualms with using it as a mixer for Old Fashions and Kentucky Mules with company at the house.
Loving your stuff!
Have you considered four rose's review?
Im new to whisky, tried a couple cheaper types so far. Im not a fan of this one straight, but i mix it with sprite and it tastes really good. Best mix drink i had.
Are you kidding? If you wanna drink sprite drink sprite. If you want to appreciate whiskey stop dumping soda gunk in it.
@@Wildeheart79drink your whiskey how you wanna drink it.
For $20-$30 and readily available at most stores I feel like it's the best bang for the buck but I found a bottle of distilled grain vodka for $12.99 for 750ml and it's not completely terrible, thinking about using it for
"moonshine" recipes
I bought a bottle of buffalo trace last month online and in my opinion it's one of the best bourbons I've ever drinked but ironically and coincidentally the best bourbon I've ever drinked is made by the buffalo trace distillery and that's blanton's. In my opinion blanton's is the king of whiskey.😁😉🥃
Just got a bottle of Buffalo from local Tesco here in UK.
Really like the Woodford Reserve double oaked I got too.
Where did you read/hear that BT is batched from 40 barrels in the center cut of the rickhouse?
It’s on literally every store and bar shelf here in Northern California for $20-$25, almost get tired of seeing it lol I still love it and it’s definitely a staple in my house
Same here in Oregon! For the same price points too, and Oregon’s liquor commission controls all our prices
lucky....IF you can find this one its $40+ here in OK
Yup here in norcal it's literally everywhere for 25
Drinking is a way of life in the south. The Pacific NorthWest is a much "healthier" region and most people that live in that area are much more likely to go hiking than to sit around and drink bourbon all day.
Yeah i live in michigan and where i live u never see it, idt its here and sells out more just never gets here. Saw it in the local grocery store this week for $30, shocked. Grabbed 2.
I agree with everything in this video (except the BT fanboy freakout lol) including the final score. Regular Buffalo Trace is fine. If you can find it for retail, great. Get some. But if someone is asking for $50 (like I saw last week), I'm instantly walking away. Same with Weller Special Reserve. Woodford is a good comparison, but at the end of the day, all of these are fine bourbons that taste like, well, slightly above average bourbon.
Anise = Licirice flavor. I am new and cannot find Buffalo Trace in Iowa. I love watching your hunts and reviews.
I can find BT pretty easily in the detroit area. Its not always in stock, but pops up often enough. My local meijer had about 10 sitting on the shelf for $27.99 today. I snagged 3 of them.
Sam's club here in west central Indiana had a 1.75L of Buffalo Trace, I didnt even have to think twice and the bottle was in my cart.
Went to a liquor store this week and they had their own single barrel select of trace for only $30 but sadly one per customer
BT is one hell of a straightforward tasty pour with no complications or complexity to worry about. Just a fine tasty pour. If you want complexity, there are other options out there. Weller SR I would classify in the same regard but IMO BT beats Weller SR in the straightforward pour.
Just bought a bottle. From my local Tesco (UK Supermarket) for £20gbp was extremely satisfied with it such an easy drinker
Keep in mind the uk version is different than the us version
@@wikz8480yh such a shame it's a good whisky but the UK version is just lacking that extra UMFF the USA version seems to have
I don't get why the UK market version is different probably due it higher liqueur taxes to import as most $18-20 burbons are £24 here and 90 proof whisktys are all lowered in ABV in UK to be sold at the same price as usa
Just got a bottle in nyc for $35. Glad it was in stock but at a limit of one per customer. So far it’s feeling like a gateway to a collection of bourbon
What?😂haha
We get single barrel Buffalo traces here in Michigan on the line near Toledo quite a bit those are my favorite ones delicious
Finally found a bottle got it for $28 can't wait to try it
I’ve drank quite a bit (volume)of bourbon in my day. I am however, an admitted neophyte to the world of “good bourbon”. Had a couple of fingers of buffalo trace last night and boy was it tasty.
Love you Bruzill!
Anise is kinda a licorice flavor. Used in some baking.
My local supermarket always has several on the shelf at $26 and no limit on purchases. My local Costco has liter bottles for $28 with no limit. I’ve had it, it’s a decent bourbon, but I don’t see what all the fuss is about. Personally, I walk right past it and grab a bottle of WT101 for $19.99.
Seen some in Ireland a few weeks ago
Buffalo Trace is everywhere in the UK at the moment but at 80 proof not 90 - I suspect due to UK Sprit Duty to keep it cheaper, It is very nice fruity with caramel and vanilla easy to drink and at 19 UK pounds (around 25 USD) is the cheapest brand for a Non Jim or Jack... Picked up a bottle for 16 UK£ a couple of months ago - great value
As a purist......shouldn't it be called Bison Trace? Just saying lol.
Love ya Mr Gamble. Thank you for all you do : )
I like it very much and have some now but the price varies wildly from $34 to $43 around Chicago.
Easy to get hold of in Scotland in super markets and in Costco would love to get the others but never saw them over here
Can get this every day up here in Alberta ...one of my first bourbons..love the stuff...great deal for 34=36 bux Canadian...
Its that Fire🔥🔥🔥That's what's the deal with Buffalo trace.
One of my favorites get it pretty regularly in Ohio
I freaking love BT ❤
Anise is similar to licorice. I picked up a bottle last night for $24. Wal Mart had a dozen or so bottles.
I wish you did more beer content! Love it regardless though
More to come!
I wish there were more of these vids
Isn't anise black liquorice flavor ? im probably wrong but for 28$ it's great really smooth i usually buy makers mark but my liquor store guy told me to try this and I can't complain
Would love to see you do a review of Redwood Empires lost monarch , pipe dream and emerald giant
i would agree with you that woodford reserve is just a tick better. nice review Brewzle
Thanks for watching!
Yep i agree
Anice is the flavor in Pho that makes it taste like magic.
Simplicity for the everyday taster!
definitely
Where are you seeing it a lot lately at? I can’t find it anywhere (beyond allocation day) in my part of AL.
In Alabama it's only in the monthly allocation drop, but I saw it all over Florida when I was down there, seen it some in Georgia and Vegas, was all over Indianapolis when i was there last week.
@@Brewzle Sounds like I need visit the in-laws or take an out of state vacation. haha
I finally got my hands on a bottle, and I agree. The bottle reviewed here does not live up to the hype. It's not bad, but it's not great either.
The back of the bottle tells you virtually nothing about the liquid inside the bottle. Judging by your assessment of this whisky I now know why.
This is why I watch review videos. Well done. 😃🥃
Buffalo trace in CT is 38$ we have crazy prices out here
Buffalo Trace is one of my favorites and the price was right. With mark up it has become above average for me. I still buy it when they have it.
Usually $25 or lower in most stores near me. $22 at Costco when they get it in.
Anise is very similar to Star Anise. Its essentially an Aniseed/Licorice kinda flavour.
I think your rating was pretty spot on. Never been the biggest buffalo trace fan. Not sure why it's gotten so popular here lately.. very average easy drinker.
It was poured on an episode or two of Yellowstone. Same thing happened with the higher end Blanton’s after the first John Wick movie came out. It’s solid whiskey but the product placement made it way more popular than it’d be otherwise.
Great Video.. I find JTS Brown 80pf(Heaven Hill) a better drinker sipper mixer and way cheaper, like half the price of BT. No idea why all the hooplaah about this bottle.
I happened to stop in a little mom’n pop liquor shop this evening on the hunt for some Early Times google said was in stock, I don’t even believe this place had a computer for inventory… their shelves were a mess, but in the middle about knee high were 2 bottles of Buffalo Trace. I gave them a new home.
$30 I wish! last bottle I found here in NY was $48 out the door after tax.
Just picked up a bottle down in west palm beach Florida they just restocked at the store I went to guy said allocated but I snagged one (Publix liquors)
for me nose: caramel, brown sugar, dark cherry, citrus, vanilla cream birthday cake frosting. taste: honey, brown sugar, citrus fruits, finish: peppery spice.
Love it, but can almost never get it, maybe can get it once every 3 months, stores near me usually only get a single case and they fly off the shelves, still a great 30$ whiskey
In all honesty if you are going to drink Bourbon with coke or any other mixer any cheap and nasty Bourbon will do.
But if you enjoy a nice Bourbon neat or on the rocks then Buffalo Trace is an absolutely fantastic Bourbon at any price point.
Thankfully it's easy to find in Australia at around $55 AU and has a 40% alcohol content and is well worth the outlay.
With that easy drinking mellow taste a pleasure to sip.
😎👍
Just bought bottle in Serbia, Europe for 30 euros, but here is 80 proof, I don't know why. Not bad at all, but I prefer Wild Turkey for the price.
What's crazy is I am in Arizona and have never paid over $20 bucks for it😏 I like it and always keep two bottles or more around for a budget pour with WT 101 $19
Same! Most grocery stores stock it for for $20-25
Man I just found it finally for 35 a bottle
Anise is a star shaped herb that has a licorice like flavor.
It's allocated in TN. Recently tried some so it's on my buy list when we get it in at work. I would say it's one of the smoothness bourbons at the price point. One of my regulars drink Larceny when she or her husband can't get any Buffalo Trace. You may want to do a comparison between Buffalo Trace and Larceny to see it that holds true.
I've never drank whisky but I was getting some for a poker game in college and I bought this out of random chance at a local booze store
I love Buffalo Trace, it's my regular sipper
It's everywhere here in Nevada including Costco, Walmart, Target.
Since they changed distributors, I have seen it more readily available in my area (N IL). I plan to retire in a few years, so I am stocking my shelves while collecting a paycheck. I have picked up 10 bottles of Buffalo Trace ($26.99), 7 bottles of Weller Special Reserve ($29.99), 2 bottles of Eagle Rare ($34.99) and 1 bottle of Weller Full Proof ($54.99) in the past 6-7 weeks. Had to visit numerous liquor stores, due to limit 1 per person.
I wish this wasn’t allocated here in Alabama.
Still my daily sipper. luckily its easy to find in Oregon
I got a one liter store pick for $30 in San Antonio. The 750 goes for $22 here.
Here in Monterey,California it cost $21.99 + tax. Never have a problem finding out here...
My go
To bourbon
After seeing the Buffalo Trace rant, I'm now just realizing that the T.J. in your name might stand for Tater Juice.
