On a related note, this is the voice I imagine for the avatar of the devil. The pitch is somewhere between a castrati and a drunk rabbi, just nasal enough for you to need to pay attention to what is being said or it fades into the background as some kind of summoning ritual.

I guess i never realized how quick the main quest lineis. Steal relic. Find evelyn. Find hellman. Find Alt. Kidnap Hanako. Meet Hanako at embers. Of course theres layers within, such as workong with Panaam or infiltrating arasaka park but damn its short. You can probably do the main story in 10 hours if you fast forward all the dialogue, walking and driving scenes

This is a GREAT video, so please don't take this next bit personally....
No one believed Yurinobo when he said Saburo was poisoned. There is even a scrap of dialog from Takemura where he askes "Poisoned?!" as though he is in complete disbelief. Just like was shown to us in the corpo life path, corpos are always killing each other to jockey for position. Takemura knows that defying Yurinobo in that moment would've (at best) lead to his death by Atom, or (at worst) the ENTIRE Arasaka security force coming down on him. When mixed with Takemura's sense of duty to his company, it makes perfect sense... Still, Yurinobo is a dumb shit if he thought that people would ACTUALLY believe him, but I feel that was intentional, too. Somewhat of an "eye roll" moment for the player to showcase Yurinobo's hot headed stupidity.

There's also dialogue from Hanako saying everyone on the board immediately knew it was a lie, but refused to speak up. Can't remember if it's part of the main story or only the optional "The Devil" ending.

Thank FUCKING you, cause I was literally seating here dumbfounded like "He doesn't know this isn't a plot hole does he?"
And the BD recording tech,if you speak to Evelyn when Judy hooks you up with the BD editor she clearly states she has it implanted,it's easy to infer it's because she's a Doll.
Not everyone wants what is essentially a 24-7 recording program in your head if you don't need it,let alone the complete breach of privacy it brings.
Last thing,V saying he told Jackie about the Afterlife being a morgue a long time ago as a Street kid is also not a plot hole because in all life paths have time skip section you can't play so obviously he could have told him that then

I find it a bit funny how you don't understand Takeumuras motivations at the start of the game. He never believed Yorinibu at all. Infact NOBODY beleived him
Goro was just bidding his time here still playing the part of the loyal henchmen but also going on about his own business going behind Yorinibus back. Yorinibu most likely eventually realised this and decided to get rid of the most loyal man to his father. It makes perfect sense and really isn't that hard to grasp what is going on....

    Love this video.
Also to answer a question about Yorinobu...
It's not explicitly mentioned in the ending, but throughout the game it's mentioned that there's a lot of internal feuding between the branches of Arasaka and Hanuko says something about Yorinobu launching a takeover. That military coup is what fucks up Arasaka in all the endings except the corpo one where Saburo does damage control and maintains Arasaka power. Admittedly that's one of the biggest flaws...if you don't know who Yorinobu is from the 2020 game, you probably won't understand what he's doing even when Hanuko explains it because his characterization in the game doesn't fit the "Corpo Background Johnny Silverhand," he was meant to be.
All the same, I loved this video and the other two on your channel. I hope for more!

    • @drummerboy1779

Yorinobu being a "Corpo background Johnny Silverhand" sounds interesting, but yeah, they didn't really manage to pull that of with the context provided in 2077. It's the issue of giving antagonists enough screen time to flesh them out. I tried to hunt down an explanation of his motivations online, but only found other people just as confused as I was.

    • @MadmanRobi
      @MadmanRobi 3 роки тому +6

@@drummerboy1779 It's pretty bad. I remember I didn't even register it was the same guy on my first run because Saburo has like 5 kids and that guy is nothing like Yorinobu in the 2020 game. He's the guy who founded the Steel Dragons in order to fight Arasaka. Basically he was the good guy trying to stop his evil father and undo the damage he had inflicted upon the world. I'm kinda sad we don't get that but glad the devs tried. I'm also mad we still don't have Morgan Blackhand. XD

As a male V, being able to give Judy a hug after Ev's death, or shaking River's hand and him promising to be your bro through thick and thin after saving Randy's life. Little things that would have made those non romantic relationships all the better.

2:02:05 I think a big problem with "levelled areas" is the way games like Witcher 3 or Assassin's Creed Origins-Odyssey-Valhalla handle enemies. Enemy strength is not logical. You can have a Lvl.1 soldier or a Lvl.30 soldier and they look IDENTICAL. You can have a Lvl.5 cyclops or a Lvl.45 cyclops and they also look IDENTICAL. That's bad. Really bad.
Gothic 1&2 did this right. Every green goblin in the game was Lvl.5. Every harpy was Lvl.18. Every troll was Lvl.50. That's how it should be done. You should be able to tell if you can tackle a certain location just by glancing at the enemies. Goblins? No problem, I can handle this. Orcs? Yeah, no. I can't go there yet.
Yes, Gothic 1&2 had some enemy re-colours but those made sense, too. You instinctively know a black goblin is going to be a bit tougher than a green goblin. You also realise that an orc with proper metal armour is going to be a bit stronger than a quasi-naked orc. It's logical.
Basically, Gothic 1&2 had GOOD level-gating.

    • @drummerboy1779
      @drummerboy1779  3 роки тому +4

That would certainly be less lazy than the Witcher 3's implementation. It's still worth questioning what the purpose of gating off generic content early on is.

I started listening to this video as I went to sleep but my insomnia struck and I ended up going through entirety of this review from the beggining to the end. Couple of points I wanted to add:
3:05:30 Agreeing to help Panam on her path of vengeance against Nash is not only there to get on her good side but also gives you the best car in the game for free. Making it the only reasonable choice. This quest alone also makes buying any vehicles in the game completely redundant.
3:24:10 Sandra's Dorsett sidequest (the information on the databank) is a part of a much bigger plot and is connected to the ''mysterious rogue AI'' and Mr. Blue Eyes. Same goes for many other quests, few examples that come to mind is Garry's sidequest about ''technomancers'' or Lizzy Wizzy showing clues of mind programming. She even talks to V about it, how she sometimes doesn't feel ''like herself'' when she wakes up in the morning.
3:27:52 This sidequest is a reference to the first ever released Cyberpunk 2077 trailer and it's sort of a fan service to those who remember it. The girl from the trailer that commited massacre, gets apprehended by NCPD special forces and she's forced to join them becoming one of the most prominent Max-Tac members herself. She's the same girl that enters the store after you neutralize the Cyberpsycho, she evens wears her iconic Mantis Blades from the trailer and has dialogue options about them. I think it's a really nice touch. As for the quest name - ''Bullets'', it's based on the track playing during the trailer which is Archive - Bullets. I highly recommend to see it, if you haven't.
4:32:50 Technically you can side with Saul during Avocado quest chain, I don't remember exactly at which point it was but I think once you start the quest to steal Basilisk from the Militech, you can go directly to Saul and inform him about Panam's plans. This path however is very underwhelming since you only get a car as a reward and nothing else. As a downside you lose access to entire Panam questline (including the Avocado ending) as well as having her as a romance option.

I don’t think I necessarily agree with your point about the Arasaka heist having such glaring plot holes. It’s clearly implied that takemura doesn’t believe yorinobu, and likely knows the truth - but who is going to believe the word of a bodyguard vs the word of the CEO’s literal child - which is why we need to convince Hanako at Takemuras request - it’s clear he scans us while we’re hiding but is told to leave before he can do anything about us - he can pinpoint that we were there and knows we saw everything with that scan data. Even if things didn’t add up to the board - Arasaka can’t appear weak to the outside, especially Militech, and keeping Yorinobu in power while investigating made the most sense. Yorinobu knows Takemura knows this, which is why the assassins come after us once he pulls us from the garbage dump.
It’s clear that night that one of them wasn’t leaving the hotel alive - and if Yorinobu had died nobody would have batted an eye, because Saburo has that power - but I also posit that the power within that family goes both ways. Infighting between groups inside of Mega Corporations isn’t new, and is literally the plot point of the Corpo prologue - and that’s also Arasaka.
Scrolling a BD is also like recoding a video on your phone - anyone with optical implants can do it - but just because we always have our phone on us doesn’t mean we are always recording, right? Corporate espionage is common, but so are the most basic of implants - we repeatedly see that it’s how people In this world transmit money and answer their phone calls without needing to use any physical items. Konpeki plaza is still a hotel for the high life, it seems a bit hard/unreasonable that they’d ban the use of even basic implants because they’re scared of espionage - it’s not Arasaka HQ, it’s a hotel they happen to own.

    • @ironwolf56
      @ironwolf56 6 місяців тому

There's also, in Arasaka, an unspoken corporate policy that "you keep what you kill" so likely some would even think if the old man was foolish enough to get himself assassinated, that's on him.

They don't know each other, they are just doing a transaction, and don't fully trust each other and at the end Jackie really shows that he is a thug, but with a good heart, and see on V someone who he can rely on at the least when things get rough, and kept V around as a form to pay her his debt to her wich inevitably makes their friendship being born...
Perhaps for this sole reason i was able to like so much of the game, its just a matter of tone.
As for the corpo beginning, to my perspective, it feels awkward, because it doesn't give a context to the friendly behaviour of Jackie.
The truth is Jackie is doing business with V, he is a guy from the streets and he doesn't need to act friendly towards a corpo, but at the same time he doesn't need to antagonize someone who will pay him tons of money for a job, in other words, Jackie isn't being friendly with V, but with V pockets...
The real problem isn't the tone is the context.
They could show a line of Jackie speaking with someone else showing disdain with V, but happy for the money.
Now street kid really fkd up badly, they could literally start with V and Jackie already being established as old friends who grow up togheter in the streets giving a really deep connection with with one of the best characters in CP77.
A total miss opportunity, and lack of foresight from the part of the writters.
You are right about the not even a shitty explanation to not recording Saburo, and so much that i even switch to scanning mode if only for RP reasons, it was an immense plot whole.
You are also right about V not telling Dex the truth that would most likely made him spare her life, if only to surrender her to Yoronobu in exchange of a reward, perhaps this was really the problem, the inevitable outcome wich would come with V telling the truth to Dex, but is also a incredible lost opportunity to expand the story with a more complex plot, Dex could promise V safety, but betray V for money leading her to that place to make the exchange with Arasaka.
But you are also wrong about Takemura betrayal...
Yoronobu, send the assassin's to deal with both V and Takemura, kill the witness and the most loyal servant of Saburo all at once
Yoronobu knew that V and Jackie were gods given scapegoats, but scapegoats that shouldn't be ever allow to open their mouths.
He also knew Takemura would do anything on his power to find the "killer" of his master and the one who sent him, wich would inevitably make the truth come out, of course all of this should be in the game, but is the real logical conclusion and the one that makes sense.
Another point to explain why Saburo arrived there exactly when V is robbing the chip could might have been precisly a scheme of Saburo to draw his father to his place and kill him, but this more me filling the gaps in the story.
Jhonny wasn't just been tortured, he was also used as a test subject for the relic experiment.
Also it is explained in the game that nanites are re-writing V's brain, it may sound unethical, but Arasaka and Saburo aren't ethical at al.
But again the game fails with the presentation and fail with exposition too.
Why Victor knows so much about the biochip (maybe Takemura explained to him) but why not Takemura explained all by itself to V? Why isn't Takemura there when V regain her councious?
This aren't plot wholes in the story, but CDPR waving away important information for the player.
We need to fill the blanks all by ourselfs...

Going in I assumed Nomad would be the least developed since it's the one that doesn't really link to the Night City lifestyle too much, but you're right it ended up being the deepest weirdly enough. Also to explain Jackie's nice behavior to V in the Corpo lifepath, it's kinda said more later but in that lifepath V and Jackie have known each other since they were kids. V just went and joined the Corpo life but Jackie is still his friend.

That part about the corpo life path was similar to how I felt. I remember thinking, "Why the hell is this street punk talking to me? Is he my henchman?" The fact that I was going to pay him to carry out a hit only reinforce my thought. I only ever saw him as disposable, so when he died my only thought was "oh well."

I don't blame people because it's probably not conveyed the best and earliest, but the reason V and Jackie are so friendly in the corpo background is because the corpo background is more accurately "former street kid who got themselves a corpo job" and you and Jackie knew each other growing up (it's referenced directly a few times)

During the section about BDs, I shared your views on the shortcomings of how it was implemented in the game, but for me there is another GLARING issue. There is zero chance a "doll" with BD recording capability would be allowed anywhere near a high level executive from one of the major corporations, at least on company grounds. And since we've seen how cut-throat the corporate world is, you can bet none of the corpos would seek out someone who could end their career or pick up bits of information that could be used to blackmail them later, or gain information that could cost their company billions of eddies.
"The Heist" would have been more believable if Evelyn already knew the location of the Relic, and just told V where it would be - without the whole BD rigmarole. The game would have been better without BD and the contrivances which surround it.
In a realistic world, BD scanners would be prohibited everywhere Militech, Arasaka, Kang Tao, et al has a presence. The entrances would all have scanners like the one at Konpeki Plaza Hotel that flagged the Flathead, but they'd certainly also be able to pick up BD equipment.
Corporate intelligence gathering (espionage) in the Cyberpunk genre is a huge deal - just look at the novels from William Gibson - and CDPR really missed the opportunity to handle the topic realistically. Since corporations are more powerful than governments in the Cyberpunk 2077 world, you can bet strict security would be company policy and entire departments would be n place to preclude loss of intellectual assets. It would not be an executive prerogative.
Intelligence gathering is near and dear to me as my father was stationed to Field Station Berlin at Teufelsberg from 1963-1969 with military intelligence, and then another 20+ years stationed at Ft. Meade, Maryland with the National Security Agency. I still don't know exactly what he did for them, and never will, because he's good at keeping secrets.

3:26:28 Exactly. If the world was actually full of NPCs to talk to and buildings you could enter and such, finding these things naturally would work. But the world is too big to walk, and if you did, you would spent 99.99% of your time bored out of your mind. Seems like they tried placing them around marked quest locations, but I did not even realize it was possible to find side jobs that were not marked on the map.

Listened to this whole vid during my work shift, and probably will do it again tomorrow. I love these in-depth breakdowns so much because of how much time it allows a person to fully layout the roots of their thoughts and give a viewer a much more detailed dive into the reasons behind the opinion being presented. Between your critique and that of Luke Stephens, there is a lot of deeper consideration behind some of the implications of this story's design and execution, and I couldn't be happier to have those thoughts brought to mind.
One point I almost thought you were going to bring up regarding the suicide ending, when you said there was a major flaw with it that you would bring up later, was the fact that the Relic resurrected V from a headshot once before already, and that short of shooting the chip itself that we have no reason (or lore-provided explanation) to believe that it wouldn't do so again. I stand by my opinion that it would have been more dramatic ending to have a zoom-out camera focus on V from behind with the city light silhouetting them in the chair and us watching him remove the Relic and going limp, with Johnny flickering a few times before disappearing.

    • @drummerboy1779
      @drummerboy1779  3 роки тому +4

That's an interesting idea about the relic reviving V after the suicide ending, though I suppose that someone could argue that V would intentionally shoot himself in his chip-slot to avoid that. "If ubisoft made this game they wouldn't care enough to make alternate dialog".
They did in Far Cry 5.
If you avoid helping the county jail, up until the quest you are forced to go there, there is an altered cutscene so that it accounts for the fact that you never went there before.
Additionally, destroying the YES sign before or after John dies creates different dialog. This probably applies to the Father statue and Faith being dead or alive, but I cannot currently verify.
There are also 3 different radio dialog options for the last standing Seed you haven't defeated yet, as well as the last herald's eulogy from Joseph being replaced by one where he is very mad.
If you willingly go into Faith's hallucinations, there is different dialog.

This review is so much more entertaining than the game! Great work!
I did everything wrong in the game that can be done wrong. And the game didn't give me any hint how to enjoy it more.
    - Never read any shart (when I want to read, I grab a book. Wasn't interesting anyway)
    - Focussed on melee and it sucked
    - Never went to an ripperdoc because I found the system to complicated (and I was able to complete missions whithout any modifications anyway. So why do those upgrates)
    - Never bought any vehicle, as they are not important in any missions anyway
    - Never did any sidequest (except killing pnk birds for Delamane)
I played the game though in 18 hours. And never felt motivated to continue playing. Hated the 1st person view also, which works fine for FPS games like Metro Exodus. But for a RPG with character customization and lots of dialog and cut scenes, 3rd persion view would have been much much better.
Hell - they didnt even bother to remove the mouse pointer mechanic for console players in the menu. One of the worst games I played in the last years.

3:06 as a almost purely hacker, who gets pinned in a position you can not retreat out and also can not fight off very bullets, this was the worst part of the game for me as well, hands down. the second issue was that at my first playthrough, there was a bug that made my char spawn inside of Pams car, which was a clusterfuck to get out of. I played on PC, everything else was more or lese bug free, there were a few minor inconveniences, but nothing game breaking. Still annoying AF. I cant even count how many times I died in that spot.

Yep, pretty stupid how YT (and Amazon and every other major site) have deliberately gone backwards in terms of filtering search results. A long time ago, you could actually sort videos by length, but now it's just "short" (20 minutes). Then it doesn't even put them in order of longest to shortest. Hmmm weird... Almost like they want you to sift through piles of garbage to find what you're looking for, because then maybe you'll get distracted and click on something else. And Amazon, search filters were actually useful once upon a time, but they have actively, intentionally destroyed them. Shit is infuriating, I hate what the internet has turned into.

Then the guy on the left says, "Hey, I remember you. Gunned down our people!" (or something like this; at the start of the contest, he said he thinks he knows us from somewhere). Then all 30 of them start shooting at me simultaneously while I have their shit pistol equipped. Luckily jumped off the building and got down the street, then went through semi-stealth and mowed them all down and took what was rightfully mine (Divided We Stand SMG). This was kind of cool in retrospect, though frustrating at the time.
The best part was the roleplaying afterwards. I decided we were at war. So, whenever I was in that part of town, I would scan for 6th Street members and gun them down. And there were a few gigs or blues where you could stealth or choose non-violence with 6th Street, but naturally took them all down instead. More of that would have been nice.
