  • Bopie has requested that Mike cut a briolette since it’s been a while and he definitely delivered with this whopper of a gemstone. Watch as award-winning lapidary, Michael Sackos facets this AAA quality amethyst from the Anahí Mine in Bolivia into a ginormous and stunning briolette using a design of his own creation.

Dude that stone is awesome! Beautifully done. I have seen different briollette diagrams but this the first whirlpool design!

Fun to watch a new cut. I suggest that you better clean your cut stones when displaying, so we don't see smudge marks.

Nice one. I found my aquamarine I misplaced them. Maybe I will try to cut one. 😮

That's awesome! I've only cut just over a dozen stones so I'll probably hold off on cutting one of these for a while, but that was really cool to see the process! Thanks for making these videos!

I think that you would have no problem cutting this or any other design. Cutting a dozen stones is quite a few. That's enough to have seen and overcome a number of the cutting/polishing issues that pop up! Give it a try!

Another great video and worth the wait - thank you!! This is another one I would love to see what Bopie does with it - you don’t see many briolette stones out there. Please share when she does set it!

I've only been cutting for a very short amount of time. But on the wax my stones come out more even in symmetrical. My stones are always off with the super glue for some reason I'm not sure why I can line up the wax but not the Super Glue

The type of adhesive you use to secure the gemstone to the dop should have absolutely no affect on being able to cut a symmetrical stone. Sounds to me like either the super glue brand you used doesn't work well for gem cutting or else you started cutting on the gemstone immediately after dopping the stone with superglue. With UV light activated Super Glue you can start cutting immediately. However, with the other superglues you have to let the glue cure for a few hours before cutting. Yes, the stone is immediately 'stuck' to the dop, but it needs a few hours to fully cure before cutting. In your case it sounds like the stone 'moved' a little while you were cutting and that caused your final gemstone to not be symmetrical. But the good news is that you have learned to dop with wax and you like it...so great job!

Hello Mrs. Bopies this man needs to go to Colombia cause he will be able to find great stones and then he can create awesome stones like this briol let. The Bopies whirlpool he created left me in awe. I have as of today seen all his tutorial and faceting videos. Thank you Mr. Mike.
