My K70 with the MX speed switches is old crusty and survived so many liquids, they are sorta a beast. The LEDs are mostly gone at this point but the switches are broken in and much smoother than stock. Kind of odd but I used to think it scratchy but have no decent solder sucker so I went with it and they smoothed out over the years. I may reclaim them after I do take it apart some day. I bet they would glide like butter after a cleaning and lube.
Can you drop 99% percent solution of isopropyl alcohol in the broken switches and let it dry but please don't use 70% percent solution because it will corrode I hope that help Edit: Press the switches after dropping the alcohol to spread out the alcohol
Love your videos Squashy, just got into the keyboard scene a few weeks ago and am waiting for my GK96S to come in now. You are the funniest keyboard content creator I have found, keep the great videos coming!
K70 was my first ever mechanical keyboard. I recently bought a Wooting and took the K70 to work. I am 100% going to do this to my board soon. It sounds so much better.
I did the same recently to my old quickfire rapid but instead of lubing the ultra scratchy mx blacks i replaced them with akko cs rose reds lubed with 205g0. The keyboard is amazing now
Can you do a video on just using hardware shop grease? Like lithium and silicone grease? I don’t know if the lithium grease is conductively insulated but worth a shot?
I got my first mechanical keyboard like 3days ago. A gift from my aunt. it is the redragon k552. I was really happy until I pressed it and..... FKING ITS THE BLUE SWITCH ONE. Its still pretty good but I'm definitely gonna change it to otemu red that it supports. the redragon k552 is also a pretty popular keyboard so maybe try to do a video on that??
outemu reds are alright but pretty scratchy even when lubed. if you can, go for akko cs switches, outemu ice switches or gazzew boba switches. unless you like the sound of outemus reds which is fine ig
I actually have one of the first Corsair Vengeance K70s, released back in I think 2012? The box says Vengeance K70, but I guess Corsair rebranded it later and simply called it the K70 Lux? I'm not sure, finding information on this specific iteration of the K70 is quite hard since Corsair has made so many revisions to it over the years. It has no RGB, just red north-facing LEDs, and no hot-swappable switches. However it did come with some nice Cherry MX Reds. At the time, I think I spent about $200 on this keyboard. I've been using it for about 10 years. I am actually typing this message on it right now. At some point, when the stock keycaps started to get super shiny, I decided to swap them out for a random set of doubleshot PBT keycaps I found on eBay. With how long it has been, the keyboard sounds HORRIBLE. Lots of scratchiness on the switches, and also the stabilizers are horrible. Recently, I had decided to look into DIY custom keyboards and figured I was due for replacing this one. I figured I could just dismantle this one, desolder all the switches, lube them, and maybe even replace the stabilizers with something better all together. However, the work for that would have been insane and I just really wanted something different. I decided to get a Keychron K8 Pro, along with a nice set of MT3 keycaps. When I get that put together, I will most likely mod out my original K70. Despite taking so much work to mod, I think it would be worth it. It is still a 100% functional keyboard, the only real issue with it is the volume knob, which I have accidentally damaged through the various times I have taken apart the keyboard to thoroughly clean it over the years. It still works, it just makes noise when scrolling it. I could probably fix this, I think this is an issue with one of the plastic bits it slips into. I may even figure out how to interface a USB-C port into it, possibly even figure out how to slap in a lipo battery and give it a proper protection circuit. It sounds extensive but I think modding this would be cool. I'd love to give it to a friend, or even just sell it after I mod it.
Man, I still can't believe I'm doing the same thing with my keyboard which is Royal Kludge G87. So, he use one of those Hakko desolder tool meanwhile it took me 2 separate nights to desolder all 87 brown switches using soldering tool and a solder sucker.... Old school indeed.
i really am confused as to why people disliked this video there was nothing offensive he was funny and smart with his jokes theres nothing un likeable about this video
I’m going to do this to my nasty old K70. Is it worth the effort of filming and lubing the Cherry MX reds? Or just replace them with stock Gateron G Pro yellows?
lol my first mechanical keyboard was a corsair vengeance (means it only has red lights) k70 and it was from a thrift store in a logitech g915 box and it was $6. i can confirm the keycaps were held on my almost nothing XD
Can you make a costume razer huntsman mini because I really like these vid and I’ve got one and i would like to know how to make it sound noce perforably with purple cliky switches

Writings not that easy. But grammarly can help! This sentence is grammatically correct, but it's wordy and boring...

Squashy: is that a challenge?
You're one funny dude. I couldn't stop laughing. You put crazy work into this. I give you props for your dedication and know-how. Thanks.

Kind of tempted to desolder and put Gateron yellows in their place

the only grammarly advert i'd ever watch
finally Squashy Boy made a new video
I got this same exact one for 20 at a thrift store with cherry MX reds. It's pretty good but the spacebar sounds like yours beforehand
ha, i'm actually trying to restore my old k70 right now (non-rgb too). so glad this video popped up.

When the browns sound more rattly than the stabs. *surprised pikachu face*

kind of proves that gaming keyboards have good bones and just need some love to get near the level of a custom keeb

Oh Squashy, they sell PBT Keyboard for not standard bottom row! You should try them
K70 keycaps tend to break rather easily at the stem of the keycaps, that's the problem I had as well. Was that not a problem in this case?
