I've played with him four times, wow I'm a lucky guy right? A dream came true four times. He is a very nice man, and the best guitarist ever. No one can touch him.
Amazing guy ! He’s played everywhere including in front of 60,000 people with Elvis but sat here loving telling his stories with a glint in his eye each time he plays something. Legend.
I know this man. He came into a car dealership in Shreveport La. where I worked. He was there to buy a new car for his wife.We sat in my office and talked about Elvis. I'll never forget ! Super Nice !
It's amazing that James is still around and so many artist that he played with are dead and have been for many years, it's just amazing. He should write a book about his life with all what he have experienced playing with all these famous big people so he can be a part of the history because he is one of the kind. Nobody have playes with so many famous names as James has wow !
James and Bruce Springsteen are great on the Roy Orbison channel, "Pretty Woman" Black and White Night. Roy is playing between James and Bruce and that was one of THE best performances ever. James MADE some of Elvis' songs as he did Ricky Nelson's songs. Those top performers were all catapulted by James Burton's wonderful guitar playing.
I GUESS I MAY BE A BIT OLDER THAN SOME OF YOU GUYS (77) BUT I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU MY INTRODUCTION TO JAMES BURTON .WAS ON THE OZZIE AND HARRIET SHOW WHEN HE IN 1961 INTRODUCED HELLO MARY LOU ,, AND JAMES BURTON TOOK A LEAD IN THAT SONG AND FROM THEN ON WHEN I SAW RICKY NELSON I ONLY WATCHED JAMES BURTON PLAY ,,, HE DROVE ME CRAZY ..THANK YOU JAMES AND YOUR NOT ONLY ONE OF THE BEST GIT MEN OF ALL TIME ,,, BUT YOUR A GOD LOVING CHRISTIAN ,, MAY GOD BLESS YOU ,, MY FRIEND ..
Seeing those who accompanied Elvis already so old when they were so young when they played with Elvis, I wonder how he would be like nowadays! we realize how many years have passed
Just found this as I am getting into some Rick Nelson stuff and James is just about my favorite musician...he is outstanding on the "axe"...my first guitar was a Fender Telecaster.........and I have not looked back. Bought another one (body) and put a new neck on it...first one is a 9.5"r.....2nd one is a 7.25"r.......rock on guys !
As a 47 year old guitarist, not looking close into who this guy was until I started looking past Elvis and the greatness of his band, did I see some of the magic of Elvis's later sound, which is still until this day taken for granted. In regards to the entirety of Burton's musical career, it's nothing short of iconic, and pretty damn close to the impact Elvis had on American music, just in a more subtle way.
Guy is a fantastic guitar player, been around the best in the music business since he was 14 years of age, knows just about everybody who made in the business, worked and played with them, inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame, and this video is the first I ever heard of him. Shows you what I know. James Burton, I know him now!
Went out for drinks with James and other folks in Emmylou Harris' Hot Band back in 75 when they came thru Rochester NY, where I was taking a summer audio engineering course. Very charming fellow.
I AM AND HAVE BEEN INSPIRED BY JAMES AND HAVE OWNED A TELECASTER SINCE 1973. THE LICKS AND SOLOS FROM HIS TIME WITH RICKY HAVE A TONAL QUALITY THAT REALLY CAN ONLY BE DUPLICATED WITH A TELE. I HAVE JUST NAILED THE LICK/ SOLO FROM “I BELIEVE WHAT YOU SAY” ( WRITTEN BT JOHNNY BURNETTE 1957) AND IT IS BELIEVED TO BE ONE OF THE GREATEST ROCKABILLY/ ROCK TUNES EVER (A MAJ).
You wouldn't know it from watching this video but the feller on the left is a guy who can play anything Jerry Reed ever recorded.....perfectly. His name is Darrell Toney....check him out on UA-cam and Spotify.
There’s a video here on you tube with James and Ricky Nelson in Ricky’s childhood bedroom playing guitar they were maybe 16 years old, when James realises he’s got to get home he’s late for dinner.(let me know what you think of it )
James vc deveria de conhecer um brasileiro ...nome dele é elvinho .ele é santo André sp ele é um grande cover do Elvis .. só falta vc na banda dele pra ficar completo kkk
Vernon Presley said I’ve never known a guitar player who made a dine. Well he had not met James Burton. Now he knows or knew a guitar player who makes plenty of money.
I'm so glad to hear James can't deal with the numbers because I sometimes get looks when I say that I'm playing guitar not doing math. Im lucky I can add 1+1. Of course I ain't no James Burton but still......
