    listening to Villeneuve's responses it's easy to see why the Film is, artistically, such a resounding success. Aswell as his deep rooted understanding and communication of the complex themes, he also understands the need to avoid crushing the audience with exposition and found ways to build a world which, while both achingly beautiful and entertaining, is also historically deep and rich should you begin scratching away at the surface.

Subtitles should be available in all languages (at least for the "major" ones). Having subtitles in English only, and only when they speak in English, is quite s****d. With todays technology, it should be possible, even more than a couple of decades ago when most journalists at any international press conference had access to translators (and headphones). • @DiscipleOfHeavyMeta1

      This is a literal translation, so it should sound something like this:
      "The language, for starters, having fun on set, but frankly, to have a communication channel that is particular to us, it... it was comforting, but... but then I have to say... how to put it... the level of seriousness (sic) with Denis' approach with the material that, often in sci fi movies or adaptations, we try to add so much elements and so much "interesting things", so I was under the impression that Denis wanted the opposite. That the environment was "true" and that the characters and their behavior (sic) were also true. And concerning the Gom Jabbar, it was prescribed to me as an actor to put my hand in a box where, you're being told "that's the most pain you've ever had in your life", so it was both to play the realistic aspect, but it was also to put myself in Denis' hands and to trust him with where he wanted me to go and to dedicate myself 100% without question and all of that trust is easy to build with Denis."

    A bit of a constructive criticism, and not the Dune cast, but to the audience:
    1) Some cast members speak English only. We can debate as to how much they should put more effort into learning foreign languages, but until they do, it's disgustingly rude to switch to French (or any other language) suddenly. Especially since after the introduction, the moderator switched to English herself.
    2) The way everybody started walking away even before the conference was ended is even worse than my first point. The cast, the socially more important attendants of the conference, were still sitting there, while those the cast made to meet were still sitting there, not even getting a proper applause at least for being there.
    I mean seriously, what the hell was that? That was the lowliest of low behavior the audience could display. Total and utter disrespect shown to the cast. I'm ashamed of what I saw, and the cast is not to blame.

    • @lizett3465
      @lizett3465 2 роки тому +27

      A quick note one your first point: Native English speakers tend to assume sometimes that their language is the language of the whole world. The cast is in Italy, at an Italian film festival which is a huge primarily European event. And in the European Union, many languages are spoken on the daily. The same argument you made could be reversed: Why should Denis and Javier, whose mothertongue is not English, always conform and speak English? :) The journalists who asked them questions may also not be fluent English speakers and feel more comfortable asking in Spanish and French. I didn't perceive this as rudeness, it is a normal situation in a multilingual setting. I live in Germany where many nations coexist, and even among my friends or with colleagues at work we switch back and forth and include some words from our mothertongues into our conversation which is primarily held in German or English, and vice versa.

    • @becausebuzzbomb6133
      @becausebuzzbomb6133 2 роки тому +2

      @@lizett3465 I don't really disagree with you, I just strongly believe that at such international conferences where there are multilingual participants, a language common to all should be chosen and unanimously used, regardless of which language that is. I don't see using language other than English as rude, what I perceive as rude is the rest of the cast not understanding (or at the very least forced to use a translator). Very suddenly at that, a quick note in broken English to the rest of the cast could be learned and said as a starter of the question.
      But as I said, this was not as big of an issue as the disrespect shown by simply standing up and leaving without any consideration for the cast. That just sucked.
      Oh, and greetings to Germany from a Czech neighbor. :) Obviously not a native speaker myself and I definitely easily agree that some natives do indeed think English is the universal language. The French, Spanish, Russians, Chinese and likely many others would agree with us also.

    • @saitamatrash2527
      @saitamatrash2527 2 роки тому +9

      Firstly, your variation of etiquette is not the same in other countries. You cannot enforce your beliefs on other people. These are Italians in Italy. What they deem respectful and disrespectful comes first.
      Secondly, I don’t think the cast are as close minded as you are, someone speaking another language isn’t gonna trigger them the way it triggered you for some fucking reason. This is an Italian event. They was being polite just by speaking English, in other versions of this video there’s an Italian dub over it. The cast are a diverse group of people who speak multiple languages. Honestly other than Zendaya and I think Josh Brolin, they’re all multilingual people. And I doubt Daya and Josh give a flying fuck mate.

      @@saitamatrash2527 Not the way the world works, pal. I've been to international conferences on multiple continents, even had my own presentations on them, and it doesn't matter if you are there with an American, Chinese, Italian, French, English, Czech or Australian citizens, they all follow the same basic rules.
      Italians may not consider their behavior rude, but so don't gypsies. Doesn't make it polite for the rest of the world. Some rules are universal (such as the word "fuck" being impolite everywhere in the world), and here they were rudely and blatantly disregarded. If you don't mind it, that's fine, of course. If the cast doesn't mind, all the better. But it was rude nonetheless. The only difference is that today's people seem to think that rudeness is OK, or worse, often don't even realize how rude they're being, which appears to be your own case.
      But that's OK, not everyone has manners.

      @@notsoon6721 oh honey please. Ive read the books. Yeah worms can't survive with water but the fremen don't care. Also they can preserve a portion of the desert and continue the spice production just like the god emperor did. Still certain that they didn't read any of the books.
