      br2049 is one of the best films ive ever seen, and to give the studio credit they beleived in it enough to allow a huge budget. Unfourtunatley, the expectation is a 3x return on profits and it didnt perform up to par. Audiences have no trouble paying to go see the Umpteenth marvel copy paste movie tho! fucking stupid

      wait another 10 years and no one will say it was a failure, it carry that right now cause it's still a "recent" movie and people still remember the box office it made, Blade Runner 2049 will eventually be call a classic

      Denis caters for the intellectual audiences.. stories with deeper meanings and multiple layers you pick up with each viewing. Unfortunately the average movie goer is dumbed down by big tent pole copy/paste movies with bad CGI.

    I didn't read or be introduced to Dune until I was well into early adulthood. When the David Lynch movie came out, I saw it without having any previous knowledge of what Dune was all about. My friends and I did hash and watched the movie so my initial interpretation was reeeeallly weird but for some reason it really resonated with me. I went immediately to the library ( one did that in the 80's because we didn't have the Internet) and got the first book. It confused me a great deal at first because there was no mention of the "weirding modules" or the Harkonnen heart plugs and stuff but the story sucked me in. After that, I went to several used book stores and got all the books to plow through as I went through late college. Even now, I reread them and learn something new each time about what Herbert was trying to convey underneath the story or through the story somehow. Read the original Herbert novels. They get really squirrelly after God Emperor but the first three (Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune) are a really good read. God Emperor is a force unto itself and serves as a bridge to the later two novels which get downright weird. LOL Don't read the Brian Herbert crap. He focuses more on gratuitous sex, violence, and gore, and less on a true story. He also willingly dismantles the previous canon of his father's books. They're pretty much garbage, IMHO. Stick with Frank's books. They're MUCH more nuanced.

    Interestingly enough, artists are always in "nostalgia mode" constantly creating new experiences to be reflected on. Not just memories from youthful teenage years, but hell, I went into the studio yesterday and started an entirely new series based on content and subject matter I have never thought of before. A new nostalgia moment was created.

  • @jobsmine
    @jobsmine 3 роки тому +13

    I think Denis is by far one of the best directors of this present time. He's even better than Nolan as a director but his scripts are written in very few words compared to Nolan. Nolan on the other hand might have better story writings but he suffers from over exposition and thus isn’t a flushed-out director as Denis. The two are phenomenal actors with each having a unique advantage and choices over the other. Nolan is good at making blockbuster films with a bit faster editing with close-up shots. If you take notice Nolan never ever shoots a wide scene. Denis on the other hand does a wide shot. This is why Denis will probably be ranked a bit higher than Nolan in terms of directing, and his movies are more likely to win Oscars than Nolan. Warner Bros are really lucky to have them as their future partner. Too bad Nolan went to Universal now tho.

    • @jobsmine
      @jobsmine 3 роки тому

      @@MrDjambronk I’m just stating the difference of the two. So far Nolan has only got one Oscar nomination for best director, while Denis got two out of the movies they made. So far Nolan made 11 feature movies and Denis has 8. So by comparison of numbers Denis is a bit ahead.

    • @MrDjambronk
      @MrDjambronk 3 роки тому

      @@jobsmine Honestly i don't really know how oscar nominee selection works. Nolan got nominated best director for Dunkirk that i think not one his best movie. Villeneuve have made some good movies,but i have trouble to enjoying his takes on Sci-fi. I hope Dune better than Blade runner 2049. For Nolan i hope he stops making pretentious movies lol

    • @jobsmine
      @jobsmine 3 роки тому +2

      @@MrDjambronk you're right on that regard about Nolan. The problem is he usaly does a non linear story telling because he has to not because he needs to. Nolan makes movies for him self which is good don't get me wrong but some audience might follow him (Inception) and some don't (Tenet). However denis makes for the art of flm, to specifically immerse the audience through the lens of the camera. Both are however one the best directors in present time out there no doubt. Please go out and watch dune on IMAX.

    Good thinking making only half of the first book, since I'm a massive fan of the book, just like millions of others around the globe and we have a very specific picture in our head about Arrakis, the Imperium the families and all of the things that makes up the books it was a high risk job for Villeneuve, but so far so good. I haven't seen the movie yet, I have a ticket for this coming weekend but from the trailers everything is spot on. Clothing gadgets, ships etc etc everything looks as I've seen them ever since I've read the book. Actors excellent, sound and music too from what I've seen and heard. I hope he makes a trilogy, I mean the original trilogy of the books ( Dune, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune )

    Considering the amount of influence Herbert drew from Arab culture to write Dune, the arabic words in the novel, and the spice itself being a metaphor for oil, I am a bit disappointed that there were no arab actors in the cast. The arab world was merely a setting in the backdrop with no human manifestation.
    I am more saddened that no one cares or is talking about this representation.

    • @law.42
      @law.42 3 роки тому +15

      I am glad thats not the case cause the past 5 years in terms of series/movies/games had been ass cause of this forced on ethnic groups/genders they are pulling non stop atm - the reason DUNE is so good is exactly cause of that - actors fit their roles and arent selected cause of their colour - director isnt trying to use a backdoor political cast to please the horrible generation of viewers like you that question the most pointless things like no arab actors in a FANFICTION story - cmon get real - you might consider looking into movies before 2007 where most movies were good cause they didnt pull this current trend.

    • @Moss_and_Such
      @Moss_and_Such 3 роки тому +9

      This is fair. But you also have to remember that Dune was originally inspired by the Oregon sand dunes. You may or may not be of Arabic decent and I’m sorry that there’s not a lot of representation for you in film and I would have enjoyed at least some Arab actors in this one.
      However I would say that a fictional planet and culture doesn’t have any real need for specific ethnic focus. It’s several thousand years in the future. With house Harkonnen originating from Finland and them casting a half Philapinno half Greek man as Glossu, I don’t personally think it should be much a priority.

    • @nroshdy174
      @nroshdy174 3 роки тому +5

      All I was asking for is a simple nod of acknowledgement to the ethnic group or culture from which many of the story's themes was taken, down to the language spoken in the film.
      I knowwe are all similar and our experiences are universal, but one of the ways we can acknowledge this similarity is to actually have inclusivity and diversity. I would say the reason why films today aren't good is not because of the diversity and political correctness but because the character stories are weak.
