@@joanofheart Good feedback Joan. I have no doubt it sounds amazing, all of Strymon products do, I own many. Didn't meant to imply it is a replacement just out of everything I've seen for demos I haven't heard anything that can't be replicated with a combination of other pedals, and that's the selling point for this one I suppose is it does a lot of things typically you need multiple pedals for. I still haven't heard any demos of this that make me want it. Maybe if I had one to sample that would change. I personally hoping Strymon gets in the plugin market sooner rather than later.
Chad Routhier Are you in the states? There are pedal rental programs so anything is possible. I use pedal genie and currently am renting a CBA Mood pedal. A lot of pedals I usually can’t afford I use this service before buying with the night sky being the one exception. I’ve been using their service for years with no complaints. Since a week after it’s release I’ve been seeing user (not demo channels) start to pop up with settings they like or ways they use it. I’m sure it will increase over time. A lot of the flack I seem to read everywhere I feel is a bit presumptive it isn’t useable for anyone. Not everyone plays blues, not everyone plays metal but there is a market that this pedal will be good for and I am one of those people. The fact I can sculpt my signal live without navigating many layers of LCD preset screens is a huge plus in making it not scary user friendly. Scary as in shit I don’t remember what I had it set to last week now I have to tinker for hours to find it again. I always found the big sky paralyzing at times where as the strymon delays I didn’t with just the knobs as very straightforward. I could go on but you get me I think, it’s much too soon to cast judgments/hate on this pedal. Is it for everyone? Maybe not but to have a lot of things in one pedal so I don’t also have 20 reverbs (all with a different modulation!) fighting for a space on my board. Granted I do have an addiction to reverb/delay this format agreed does save me board real estate also. I think Big Sky is a preset king whereas Nightsky is a make your own adventure cloud city..? Dunno if that sums it up lol the renting thing might be alittle before they get units but it’s worth a shot if you want to try before buying things.
@@joanofheart I am in the states and I've never heard of pedal genie! Looking at that site now...thanks for that reference. Im maxed out but I've been focused on midi piano/keys as of late hence me wanting some Strymon plugins. I'm with you on the knobs to, I tend to turn to the flashback triple delay over the timeline for that very reason.
I don't really see the point in this pedal. Strymon should have made this into a module with full CV. Might have been of some interest. But this thing as a guitar pedal seems to be amiss, despite the massive work gone into the project.
There is midi, but I do agree it's a shame they didn't go a bit further seeing how many inroads they've made into the synthesist world. A full-fat strymon multi-fx rack unit with CV, midi and a satellite unit with a load of routable inputs/outputs would be perfection. But I've run out of body parts worth selling, so..

@@chordsoforion Bill, have you tried the Caline Snake Bite? I play drone metal, and I like it so much I bought two so I can use it in parallel for stereo.
I had a ps-2.. I found it kind of unreliable on the road. The ps-3 is incredible! However, they’re getting harder to find at a reasonable price. I’m not a huge strymon fan but this thing sounds the least “strymon.” It sounds like a boss pedal which is maybe why I like it!
I had a timeline, I thought it was cool at first as the sounds are good, then after working with it, I realised was a hinderance for me creatively and got rid of it. feels like working with a vst for me.
@@je7647 Try the Nemesis, with the Neuro-App you can create every delay imaginable and beyond. It's the only delay pedal that lets you control how self-oscillation should behave. Unfortunately the Nemesis never got the hype it deserved. Trust me, try it, and I promise you will keep it ;) Another epic delay is the Erica Synths ZEN Delay with the real Tube sound and TRUE STEREO processing! For example, when you run a stereo sound, with a tom on the right channel and a cymbal on the left channel, you will get a different tube saturation/distortion for the tom and the cymbal! Besides the Nemesis, the best delay out there.
First time I'm not interested in a pedal from Strymon. It sounds great, YES. But I have the Big Sky (which sounds much better imo), I have the Specular Tempus (which is one of the best reverb/delay pedals EVER!), I have the Source Audio Ventris, I have the OTO BAM (one of a kind!), I have a PCM90, I have the Meris Mercury and many other awesome units. Nightsky is cool for ambient-only experimenting stuff. For big serious productions where you have to mix many channels it's quite useless. Trust me, it's sad but true. The Big Sky is also very hard to use and mix in a big production. So as I said, for this kind of demo videos, "guitar-only" presenting stuff and ambient trips the Nightsky is cool but that's it. This should be a modular module and not a pedal. Just my opinion.
Nobody's ever heard of them. No content on channel to corroborate fanciful claims of gear owned and involvement in 'big serious productions'. Pontificates about a pedal that they're not interested in and clearly don't own. Yes, we've got one, folks!

Bills review was the one I was waiting for with this pedal....great job as usual on the demo!
Disagree I have bigsky and their delays and no this isn’t a pedal that replaces or should be compared to any of them. I speak as an owner of a nightsky myself. Placed After bigsky both together are amazing.
I've been wanting to sample the CBA mood, and all the Meris pedals so its nice to know I can just rent it. I hear you on the pedal board space.
But this thing as a guitar pedal seems to be amiss, despite the massive work gone into the project.
ok
There is midi, but I do agree it's a shame they didn't go a bit further seeing how many inroads they've made into the synthesist world. A full-fat strymon multi-fx rack unit with CV, midi and a satellite unit with a load of routable inputs/outputs would be perfection.
But I've run out of body parts worth selling, so..
Thats my impression so far as well. Really hoping they get into the plugin market
How about recommending some moderately prices pedals that the average Joe can afford (i.e., < $200 or whatever). :-)
There are a bunch of demos here on the channel of pedals $200 and less. I would recommend any of them as I don't demo pedals I don't like. Did you have a particular type of pedal mind? I can point you to a few vids.
@@chordsoforion Hi Bill, after the usual reverbs, delays, compression and distortion, what other effects do you think compliment ambient guitar? Thanks
@@Prajnana A phaser connected to an expression is also a nice piece of kit to mix in!
Brian Miller tc electronics corona chorus is cheap and good.
@@chordsoforion Bill, have you tried the Caline Snake Bite? I play drone metal, and I like it so much I bought two so I can use it in parallel for stereo.
Allan holdsworth would make incredible use of this
No doubt!
Didn't he do patches for Yamaha Magic Stomp, delays and reverb?
When I looked up Shimmer in the dictionary, this dude's face comes up.
He doesn't have time to show us all the features? What else is he gonna do?
Drink more coffee ?
Sounds good but i prefer bigsky pedal
Also a delay as well wow.
nothing a boss ps-2/3 and a standard reverb cant do apart from the sequence. these pedals are getting ridic imo.
J E same! But with the big sky. I found myself becoming less creative.
I'm selling 4 of my pedals just to buy this one!
And I did, and I'm glad for that!
now I need the Volante, shit
Chase bliss CXM cough ...
Whew - and folks complain about the cost of Strymon pedals!
This is strymon's answer for Meris Mercury
errm... No.
@@jeremyjohnson7676 eee yes
Hmmm maybe
I'm having opposite feelings on this pedal. This is the first time I'm seeing a must have Strymon. Not knocking their other stuff, but I have fantastic results with pedals from other companies.
This is something entirely different and future forward.
FYI - JHS just announced a new 3 Series of effects pedals @ $99 each. :-)
Big Sky & Timeline with limited settings...
Again a wonderful demo!! But i am not impressed with the pedal
Too wet, Bill!
I have not watched the video yet. Just wanted to say you don't have to make that trendy "surprised face" thumbnail. Very annoying. Please do not feel like you have to follow what these young kids are doing, just because they are telling you that you need to.
Another dud release by strymon...
Em B dud?
Strymon rhymes with hymen
