And TC. Haven't seen three TC pedals on a board for a while. That said though, Strymon are the best for a reason. And you can't fault Bill at all for wanting to use the best. I think I was more surprised that he didn't use a dedicated looper though. But it still worked beautifully.
Bill, you're like the Mr. Roger's of Guitar Looping and I mean that as a compliment. Mr. Roger's was the best, a really sweet guy, and so are you. Love this kind of video. It's very informative. Thank you.
I am so looking forward to those up coming meditations, Bill. What I particularly liked about this video is how it deconstructed the anatomy of how you design your signature sound. The way it built up at the end with the pitch down octave adding weight for the dancing granules - that was something special!
You remind me of Bob Ross. You're sof spoken and explain everything very well. Watching tour videos at home or listening to them ar work always nakes me happy.
A great presentation of the construction of an ambient pedalboard. I built a couple of PBs, but I see that it is time to add at least one effect (Octaver). I built a TC Electronic PB with 14 effects over the Christmas holidays, relatively cheap effects with a nice sound. Of course, the Strymon brand is synonymous with technical quality and super sound. My personal peak in terms of possibilities and which I have realized (older amateur, below average guitarist, but still enthusiastic) is so far with EHX. Thank you very much for the inspiring video. Greetings Pavel CZ and I wish you a nice weekend. . PS the Strymon power supply is great, from my layman's point of view, I dare to recommend the Caline Scuru Power type to some colleagues, I have it in 3 PB and it can handle a lot so far, it is sufficient for my type of amateur.👍👍👍🎸
Cable routing and management is so important, I wish you wouldn't have skipped it even if it's "boring". Since you aren't using custom cables it's of particular importance because off-the-shelf cables are more cumbersome to manage. Nevertheless, another great video.
I need to try to mimic this pedal board using my Headrush MX5. I like to use my MX5, Alto408 FRFR, and Mission Engineering battery pack while camping, so minimizing gear is important. Nice to have something to shoot for...Thx!
Do you put the volume after your "amp" pedal because you really just want to control the volume and not your gain stage as well? I always have my volume before my gain pedals right after my compressor because it sounds more "natural" to me ad like the way a volume pot on the guitar behaves. Do you put it afterwards because of how the eBow interacts with your signal? Just curious. Again, great video. Maybe post a full improv of this board next?
I do drive, volume pedal then compressor. I like how the volume pedal interacts with the compressor. I hadn't thought of putting it after the amp. I guess it's like controlling the volume of the amp instead of the pot on the guitar.
Hi Bill! Nice gear and nice job presenting the board. .... Sounded like a little Cold Rain and Snow there at 15:30 :o) -- How do you like that Lehle? Does it have the built in ground loop stuff? Thanks... man, can't wait to hear some music from this set up!
Very cool! Inspired by a past video you made, I’ve got almost the same setup on a budget; just a TC Electronics Plethora X5 & Boss SD-1 in it’s FX loop 😊
Hello Bill, since you have many feet of cable connecting all those pedals, do you turn on the buffer that’s in the Strymon Dig or El Cap or your Polytune 3? I’ve been told one loses top end after every ten feet of cable so I’m curious how you combat this. I’m assuming that through the true bypass pedals & cables, you have easily 30 feet of cable from your guitar into your interface. Like you, I’m ready to increase my pedal board size. The timing of this video is perfect. Thanks for teaching us how you go about it. 👍🏻
Good point about the buffering. I will generally experiment with the pedals to see which buffering configuration works best. In this case, the volume pedal is an active buffered circuit, so all good there.
I dont know if you would have the time, but a video of you showing some albums or artists that inpsire you would be very cool. I love the guitar stuff too. Just an idea.
Today I got my Lehle volume pedal S to play ambient in my vacation. But fate decided I had to get a squeeky one, its unusable like this at home so its going back. 😢
Im surprised there aren't any Old blood noise endeavors pedals on this board. The Microcosm is a fantastic pedal and hate to say it but the best $400 you can spend for ambient music. Curious why you choose the Strymon Compadre over a Cali76 varient? With a pedal board there are no wrong answers there is just a playground of fun. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve had the Microcosm a few years now and I’ve found it pretty hard to use. It has this tenacity to take over the sound, so anything you feed it just turns into a microcosm. Make a few songs with it, and they all sound the same 😆
I think I can answer this one. A lot of regular loopers don’t do Record into Overdub straight away, which you really need for SOS. Also the El Capistan models a tape machine so each ‘loop’ slightly warps and decays with each repeat. Very cool!
Please clarify what's the effect of infinite sustain before delay? You mentioned this was in your chain but never covered this effect combination? Seems like an audio conundrum... 🤔
Hi Bill... would you recommend an expression pedal for post volume iridium or a stereo volume pedal? I'm wanting to use stereo out on the Iridium and these two options seem to be my only choices. Thanks!
That is certainly an option. I normally prefer to put all time based effects after amp sim so they do not get distorted if I decide to dial up the gain.
I normally prefer to put all time based effects after the amp sim so they do not get distorted if I decide to dial up the gain on the amp sim. In addition, the frequency response of the delays and reverbs are not bound by the frequency response of the modeler's cab sim. But certainly, putting the sim at the end is an option if you prefer a more traditional signal chain. It's all about getting the sound you like!
The TC brainwaves is just such a love hate situation for me... I just can't fathom why there isn't a volume control for the wet mix in the tone print software... The wet signal is just WAAAY too low volume... PLEASE let's bug TC Electronic (music tribe/Behringer) about this. Should be such an easy fix for them!
Strymon needs to be paying you.
They're having a good day!

I appreciate that he’s unpaid and honest. Too many guitar channels are basically paid commercials now.

Whatching this and other many gear-oriented videos of yours I thought - maybe you could've made a video about GAS? (GAS - gear aqcuisition syndrome)
You know what cures that? Just one more pedal.
@@goldennight3 Exactly! And then you're definitely done. Time to spend 3 weeks researching different DI boxes.

glad to see this is still one of the most wonderful places to come and learn from a master of his craft…. that granular delay sounds otherworldly!

That end product! Wow! I wasn't exactly sure where you were going with this pedalboard, but that was completely unexpected. Keep up the good work!

STRYMON RIVERSIDE!!!! It's so freaking good. Been on board since the day I bought it 3 years ago.
I'm drooling over that guitar, never mind the pedal board!!!
Thanks Bill! Inspiring as always! ✌️😌🎸
Great video Bill. You should check out the UK Digital Guitar chap that creates ambient pads and synth like music on the fender tone master pro.
Love the video…very helpful to actually SEE the process paired with the thought process. Thanks!
Sounds awesome, Bill. Would love a livestream concert. Be well.
That's an excellent pedalboard, Ser Davos.
your pedalboard is beautiful!!!
I could watch your vids just to listen to you play.
the velcro that you get with the pedal train boards is insanely strong

That was a lot of fun ☺️
That pedalboard is worth more than my education 🥲
A rolled off fuzz(vol+tone) may suit that soundscape better, I like the video nice to see a full pedalboard!
Put painters tape on the bottom of the pedal, then put velcro on the tape, alot easier to get off, if you so desire
You are the man❤ artist. teacher. So brilliant ❤
Awesomeness sir
Super cool man
Wonderful!

What about the shoes? How do they affect tone?
They are the heart and "sole" of my sound! Hee-hee!
I see what you did there ;)
Goosebump´s ! 😉

Hello from Girona (Spain). Could you use or explain Ring Modulators?? I am sure you do not use them. But I think they could be good to ambient sounds.
Today I got my Lehle volume pedal S to play ambient in my vacation. But fate decided I had to get a squeeky one, its unusable like this at home so its going back. 😢

Hi! Why do you choose to use sound on sound delay with the strymon in stead of just a loop pedal? Any particular reason? Sounds great, just asking. :)

nice pedalboard i have a question. can i use 12v on lehle volume mono s?

Hi Bill... would you recommend an expression pedal for post volume iridium or a stereo volume pedal? I'm wanting to use stereo out on the Iridium and these two options seem to be my only choices. Thanks!
I would have put the iridium last since it's an amp sim.
That is certainly an option. I normally prefer to put all time based effects after amp sim so they do not get distorted if I decide to dial up the gain.
interesting. i have a similar setup but my amp modeler end of chain. did you try that too? why do you prefer the position of the iridium here?

best?? Isn't that the volume pedal that fell apart on you?
Don't all these digital effects latency add up?
Not that I can tell. And not all of the effects use DSP.
A peice of plexi glass or sheet metal would greatly increase the amount of real-estate on these rail style boards.
Where’s the looper?
I don't often keep a looper pedal on the pedalboard. Usually get it out for specific pieces.
You're not able.... Hahaha.
Warning: 99.99% of this video is talking: Alright!
Great but not an affordable pedalboard for the many... All you need is money, and plenty of it !
Can't stand how most pedal boards are designed to use velcro. It sucks, not secure enough for me.
What about modulation?
No need in my view with this combo of pedals, as the delays and reverb and the Infinite sustainer all do different types of modulation.
@@chordsoforion Really cool what you have built. Love learning from you.
When my hair turns gray I want to be a post rocker grandpa like you
Oh. By the time Post-Rock came around, I had been playing ambient guitar for almost 20 years. Guess that makes me a great-grandpa! :-)
Too much strymon…i am not able to like their products, don’t know why
Bigsky...worth a try.
Waaah. Let's pick on a brand instead of focusing on the function of the board which is the whole point of the video.
I would like to sleep with you for a few months to learn :DDD ..anyway I would have also followed the whole part of how you connected the wires!
Old crap
