- Large glass jars such as large pickle or sauerkraut jars, aren't easy to open if you just try to unscrew the lid. This video explains why this is so and shows a real easy way to avoid a strained wrist.

OMG!!! This tutorial is so amazing. I was able to open a very large glass jar and it was so easy to do it. I tried rubber bands, rubber gloves, hair dryer, my daughter and I both trying to open it together. Nothing but the spoon worked. I could not be happier. This is a tip I will use with other identical jars to the one I opened today. And I will remember this tip FOREVER!!! Thank you so much!!

How I've gone through life this long without knowing this is beyond me. Thank you sir.
I'm arthritic because of psoriasis. When I was younger I had no problems opening a jar but it's just so bad, even now at 22, to open jars sealed so tightly. I was almost doubtful that it would work as smoothly as you've demonstrated. Boy, I have never been so happy to have been proven WRONG!! I was amazed at the buttery smooth-ness of the jar lid opening. Absolutely beautiful, thank you for giving us this useful video.

Good presentation. The hot water might also cause the steel lid to expand and reduce the friction though the reduced vacuum is probably the main reason.
The many devices on the market may grip the lid but don't help in gripping the jar body.
LOL, my wife just asked me to help her open a huge jar which I could do by force and I typed in on UA-cam and your video poped up and after watching I was able to open the jar using the spoon method. Thank you very much for making this video and helping me out.

I came across your tip opening a big jar of peppers and there was no way to opening the stubborn lid. However, I used the spoon like on the video and VOILA!! My wife was stunned!! it could be that there is something on the screws of the jar, (food,syrup etc) if the lid is still too tight after releasing the pressure, run the jar under hot water where the lid meets the jar.

Use the back of the spoon as a pivot. That way you don't need to hold the head of the spoon.

I used a spoon as directed in the video, I heard the popping noise then twisted the lid off the jar..I was able to reach inside my jar of pickles. I used a grapefruit spoon, which is narrower than my regular spoons and has that little ridge edge. Magic!!!! Love the explanation behind it. I had a new Mason jar of pickles and none of my usual things worked. Thank you!
