Hehe. I have one of those. Engine blew about 25 years ago. Scout is still sitting in the back of my garage.
Damn thing went up a hill at the same speed (slow) whether it was towing another Scout or just running free. Got about 19mpg and diesel was cheaper than gas back then. Came with 3.73 axle gears. Mine has the padded steering wheel. Had to put a cover on it as it got sticky as Hell from years of sun exposure. 1980 was the only year the Scout 2 came with a Dana 300 transfer case which has a lower ( 2.8 to 1?) low range than the earlier Dana 20 which was 2 to 1.
You looking to sell?
Looking to sell?
My dad has 2 of these still (used to be a dealer) and he also got about 20mpg on his. One is a 1980 with the ridiculous low 1st gear. It is basically a 3 speed, you start in 2nd when driving it normally.
@@justase64 I had a 1977 Diesel Terra that got 25+ mpg but it leaked rainwater like a sieve. I'm sure if it's still around that it's all rusted out.
Beautiful Truck
It sure is!
I don't know if you'll see this but worth a shot! I live in Alaska and have one on my homestead. Needs restoration but good bones. I'm looking to sell it-what would you think I should ask for it?
Bought one brand new in 1980 ,,after blowing the SD33T for the 3rd time the dealer said " Don't ever come back here again ." Great vehicle once I swapped in a well used 345 IH gas motor until the rust worms ate the body away .
That Chevy at 1:26 is too cool
These engines have a love or hate it history. Ex dealers kid here. Me? I’d go with the 196 inch base four before I’d go diesel. That’s half of the 392 V8 they used in tow trucks. You can soup that up to match the diesels output, probably exceed it. Be a lot more reliable.
Nice car
Nice rig and great video! Why do I always hate watching others drive stick? 😂
Right? It made me cringe
what was wrong?
@@waggitnshaggit6592 his shifts were very imprecise and the clutch disengagement looks very rough. though it is understandable as he has probably only driven it in a short time and is unfamiliar with the car.
he also avoided downshifting and just let the car coast in neutral.
He did fine, you have a lot shorter rpm window on a diesel along with an anemic power plant, that’s pretty much how it is.Actually it’s similar to shifting with out a clutch the way he’s doing it.😊
Its so sad that international still don't make them,ALL AMERICAN BUILT.
Nissan Diesel engine
Do your leg a favor and skip 1st gear, lol.
man that thing is slow
Gas gauge? I didn’t know diesels ran on gas…. My college teacher way back when would have killed me for saying that 😂
