    I love the green pack Stonehenge. It was recommended by Lindsay the Frugal Crafter and it really helped take my colour pencils artwork up a few levels.
    I have tried Inktense on mine, only for backgrounds and they worked really well.
    Good tip with the white pencil for masking. I was actually only wondering if that would work last week, so you read my mind. It seems much cleaner than masking fluid.
    Cute little drawings. I can't wait to see what you do next with the surface.

      Thank you! The traditional Stonehenge paper is fantastic. It's such a versatile surface. I love a lot of Legion's papers. They have an awesome variety to choose from!

    Did you lift watercolor with an eyeshadow type applicator?? I am VERY interested in these now. How nice would these be plein air? I am thinking maybe watercolor and maybe something like Neocolor II. ooh meltz I have this and you have the wheels turning. 😂 Both pieces turned out fantastic! I am definitely adding some to my Blick order, glad I didn’t check out earlier. 😅

    • @CautionArtistatPlay
      @CautionArtistatPlay  2 місяці тому +1

      Haha! Yeah, I attempted to lift with it because I was desperate and ran out of q-tips and paper towels in the studio. It worked a little bit, but not as well as I hoped, so I had to start bringing in a rag instead. The panels will be perfect for plein air. They are amazing! I think you will really enjoy working on them! I want to try the Neocolor's on them as well, I think they will be great for that! The Meltz blender is amazing, truly. The only thing is, it doesn't work great with some of the Caran d'Ache products, besides the Neo ll's because they are water soluble, haha!

      @@CautionArtistatPlay I saw it and thought hmm is this a new thing I must try lol. Also panels are sold out at blick for the 5x7, 6x6, and 8x10 seems waiting until this morning to finish my order was too long. Now I will have to wait on another backorder I suppose, because I definitely want to try them.

      @CautionArtistatPlay  2 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, I think they are going to be a hot ticket item for a while! I'm not surprised they are back ordered already! As far as the lifting goes, it did work a little, so it may be good for subtle techniques. It also depends on which applicators you have because I'm sure some are more absorbant than others.

    I wonder if you can melt Crayola crayons on it with a safe method of heating the aluminium from behind. I've done some melted crayon art years ago by melting crayons on standard canvas sheets, by placing the canvas sheet on top of a portable radiator and using ear buds to blend. It wasn't practical, but it worked and completely changed the texture to something that resembled an oil painting. The first attempt was 12 years ago and the colours still remain unchanged.

    • @CautionArtistatPlay
      @CautionArtistatPlay  2 місяці тому +1

      Ooh, that's an intriguing idea! I think the main thing I would be concerned with is heating up the adhesive that was used to mount the paper to the aluminum. It might be worth experimenting with, though! Have you ever tried using a heat gun and applying heat from the top instead? I don't know much about the process of encaustic painting, but I feel like this would be a sturdy enough surface for that.

      @@CautionArtistatPlay I've recently seen videos about a new method using crayons with a hair dryer at full heat setting to heat the paper from above, that apparently works. But I've not tried it as I don't have one. I will once I move in with my cousin, as I plan to make melted crayon artwork from a huge stockpile of crayons I have there. The hairdryer method involves drawing the colours first and then heating them. Though I prefer painting on heated sheets, as it feels more like painting. I'm not sure how it reacts with adhesives. Downsides are that you can't work in layers. Crayola also have their own heat gun for melting crayons for painting with, but youtube reviews shows they don't work too well. I'm going to try another experiment by placing a canvas sheet on a baking tray while standing the tray (somehow) above the tea lights. Pretty sure it won't end well. 😬

      @davidandrew3006 I have a friend who used to paint with crayons by putting them through a hot glue gun. She just put them in where the glue stick goes and melted them through. That may also be a fun option for you!

    Hi Shana, I don’t think Legion are available in Australia, would you say these are comparable to Ampersand boards? (-: Marion 🎉

    • @CautionArtistatPlay
      @CautionArtistatPlay  2 місяці тому

      Hey there! That's a bummer! I love Ampersand panels as well. They offer some of my favorite surfaces! However, these are different. Ampersand uses a special primer to get the texture on their hardbord surface where as these are actual paper mounted to a metal panel. So, they do feel different when working on them. Ampersand has their Aquabord for watercolor, and Pastelbord is a pretty cool surface for colored pencils. But they are each different feeling than working on actual paper, so they may require different techniques while working.

    I was trying to figure out how I could make water with Inktense without ruining the drawn fish… then I heard you saying ‘oil rejects water’ Of course!
    But… doesn’t my drawing get totally white-washed when I use the Chinese white on it?

    • @CautionArtistatPlay
      @CautionArtistatPlay  2 місяці тому

      I only use Chinese white in the areas that I want to remain completely white, so, basically, for the highest highlights. I only put it in small areas that I want to mask and not have to worry about painting around. I use different colored pencils depending on what color I need. So, say I have veins in a leaf that I want to have stay put when I add water, I will use a green colored pencil that matches the color of the veins as a resist. So, it doesn't always have to be a white colored pencil. You can use any color you want as a resist. And you can use any brand of colored pencil you want. Waxy pencils tend to work a bit better for this technique, but even Polychromos will work to an extent. 😊

      @@CautionArtistatPlay thank you. That makes total sense I feel a bit stupid for not thinking about that myself 🫣
      But let’s say it is an underwater-world. Should I use for every thing (plants, sand etc) an oil pencil? Sounds like double the work 🫣 Wouldn’t have been better to do those things with oil pencil first?
