I’m with you. My Loving Mom, always cooked everything on Cast Iron. She knew what she was doing too. We still have her fry pans & none ever had rust. Of course, Mom told my twin sister & I, “Never Wash Cast Iron”. She never did either. But, she sure did rub the heck out of those pans each time she cooked, with Crisco & napkins & later paper towels. Interesting, we were never Iron Deficient nor Anemic 🩸 . I’ll never forget, she really didn’t “wash these pans” & they never rusted... ever!
I just purchased that same cast iron griddle a few days ago and I absolutely love it. I currently live in an apartment and cant have a grill so this is the closest thing I can get. Definitely worth the price.
@@cerisejones8061 Its the cast iron griddle by lodge. You can buy them on Amazon, Walmart, Target or a kitchen store. I purchased mine from a kitchen store for $60.00. Totally worth the price. I actually cooked steaks on it last night for Easter dinner.
if you want this Cast Iron Griddle or Legend Griddle 10X20 to work well. use olive oil for the first time. let it soak for 30 min. then add another thin layer of either vegetable or olive oil then place it in a preheated oven for 1 hour at 450 -500 deg. there is nothing absolutely nothing like cooking on cast iron. after you're done cooking. boil some hot water with a bit of kosher salt. let it sit for 10 min that will remove all leftovers.
Finally got one ordered. my large cast iron skillet that has been handed down for generations is too heavy for me these days (and I don't need the added oil hee-hee,) so I needed to know how to season the griddle before it arrives. I have no children to pass on the skillets to 3 sizes,) but once I am comfortable with the griddle I will see if a niece would like the set.
I use a high heat oil like grapeseed or flax (or lard) and rubbing it in with a lint free cloth, oven set at 350 for an hour, then turn oven off and let it cool slowly in oven. Do it again if you want.
This is a great video! Just got the exact same griddle today and I was looking up whether or not I could season it again before cooking! Thanks so much!! Bought a round lodge skillet before this griddle and I’ve been cooking on it for about a month. Wish I had seasoned it again before cooking. Do I have to strip it to season it again?
No need to strip! Just season it extra if you like. Just like he did here with the oil and baking it. You can do it many times. Cook oily stuff on it at first and it will get better and better with time.
I’m looking at getting one of these to use on my pellet smoker to cook burgers and so forth, how do you clean these after cooking on it? Thanks so much

I absolutely love your prep board. I want one like that too. Oh my husband will be home in January for a few days. I have so many honeydews for him. That may have to wait until July. So smart you can literally pick it up and move it around. With handles, ooolala!!! Fancy stuff!
But how can the iron get through layers of seasoning and into food? Has anyone tested the iron content in food after cooking with CI, or is it an assumption that if your cooking on iron you somehow get supplemented? Thanks for demonstrating seasoning. I see you put a minimum coat of oil on, which is recommended.some do the additional seasoning twice on new cast iron.
Let me give you a tip. If you look at the old cast iron skillets, and grill trays. The bottom is smooth as a counter top. The new cast iron. They do not sand the bottom smooth. The food will stick to the metal. .Take an electric sander, and sand it smooth, and re season. You will have a nonstick surface
Thank goodness I found this video. I just bought a Legend one and was a bit confused and wanted to make sure that I prepared it correctly. Where can I get those gloves?
save all the bacon drippings put them in the freezer and use them every time you season your cast iron. That what we used 60 years ago. there wasnt much vegetable oils back then.
Where u from? I’m new to your channel. I’m from North Carolina. You are definitely from the south lol I just ordered this exact griddle bc of this review.
@@VansWorld Happy New Year to you too!! Just got it in today. Did everything you said to do. Can’t wait to try it out. You should do more griddle videos? Would love to see some cooking vids.
Hi just brought a round one for my bbq but it’s too big for my oven. What substitute can I use instead of a oven to pre season the griddle. Can I put it straight on the bbq to Pre season on both sides?
Thanks for the seasoning advice. The old stories about getting iron in you from cooking on iron don't really seem credible. Maybe if you ate the rust that forms on a wet iron griddle you would get iron oxide (the red rust stuff) but iron itself, not unless you ground up the iron into iron filings and thats not likely unless you grind the surface...
Actually new studies have proven you get some iron in your food mainly if you cook acidic foods in it. The process is called acid etching, quite literally dissolving microscopic amounts of iron into the food from the acid. You don't get a whole lot of iron from it but it does work.
You can get trace amounts of iron but it's mostly from unseasoned iron or cooking with acidic foods that remove the seasoning. The layers of seasoning prevent iron from leeching into the food. Regardless, cooking with cast iron is not a good way to increase iron intake.
Are you saying that a spoonful of dirt a day, keeps the corona away? HAHA! That thing looks real handy although it would probably be a pain to clean every time you use it.
2 spoonfuls lol. It’s not too bad. Just sop up the grease with a rag first. Hit it with some warm water then a metal brush. Wipe with another paper towel then some oil. Your right. It is a pain to clean now that I’ve listed my steps lol.
I have hereditary hemochromatosis which is too much iron in my blood. Yes your momma was correct....you do get iron in your food when cooked on cast iron. For me it is a no no.

Could I season it on stovetop? Mine doesn’t fit in my oven😭 I don’t have any way of doing it outside either😔

Do you need to re season it in the oven if its was rusted
Yes. 👍😁
Could you use something like this on a bbq to do smashed burgers and or steaks?
Thanks in advance
Yes! That would be awesome!
Good info
Oct. 01, 2020 - I got that same model today at Walmart.
I love it. I know you will too. My mom has one she has been using for a long time on her gas stove. 👍😁
How did u get the glue off of the griddle?
Hmmm I don’t remember it having any glue on it.
It was the adhesive that attached the label. I pulled it off and it left a residue on the griddle side
I don’t think mine left a residue. Sorry. I wonder if it will come off when you season it?
