This is the part of the manga that got me fully hooked. Not many manga can grab me just several chapters in but this definitely did. From how fantastic the setting felt to how amazing the art was when Coco suddenly took flight, and my sweet Coco building off from an earlier mistake and learning from it to incorporate it into her magic. Among all the scenes, this is the one I want animated the most. Also I have so much I want to say about Agott but my thoughts are more for later arcs so I'll reserve my thoughts there.
I think Agott was pushing Coco in the hopes that she would fail and go away. But I can't say much more because I'm ahead of the chapters being discussed here. :)
I'm caught up with the manga, so I can't say much about my feelings on Agott, but she is a complex character and I can't wait for you to see her and all the girls' journey in this story.
Brushbuddy is the series' mascot going forward, so yep, you'll be seeing it quite a bit! God, there's actually so much I want to comment about but because I personally do not care about spoilers whatsoever, I'm super afraid of accidentally spoiling something. So I'll just comment about things unrelated, or loosely connected to the manga itself. Like, did you know Shirahama is very progressive and politically active? She has the pride/rainbow flag in her Twitter handle, was outspoken against Florida's "Don't Say Gay" bill and Disney's lack of action to protect their employees, and has been spotted at a few protests in Japan. I don't want to get too deep into her politics (she's awesome though) but just wanted to say, the manga and fandom are just as inclusive and progressive as the author, and I'd heavily recommend anyone enjoying (and are mostly caught up) the series to follow her on Twitter if you use it, her @ is just her full name.
Even though the characters are kids, it actually is a YA series (that's how it's marketed in Japan). So maybe later in the series , once they've grown up...?
I think Agat has some trauma and backstory that will be revealed later to flesh out her motivations and backstory. Especially, since she raced after Coco at the end of the volume to jump in and help the other girls, which leads me to believe that underneath the tough exterior she has a heart of gold. My best guess is that someone in her family either died or was injured by someone not taking their magic and studies seriously, so she decided to be the best witch possible by being the most rigid and strict even with herself. Fully guesses though! I’m so happy to finally be reading this series and getting to do it with the community!
Agott comes off as very antagonistic towards Coco. She seems to think of the new girl as undeserving of magic, but even after passing the test, Agott still does not treat her as one of her peers.

I also love Ni no Kuni! I really need to play it again soon when I have a geekend or Geekeve again or something.
I am the Henry the eighth of manga lmaooo. Such an underrated joke
If this had been an adult or ya story, Agott would have been a reluctant love interest 😂
