I don't know if you've read the manga, "My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness" but I definitely recommend it. It's an autobiography and it is was a breath of fresh air after reading so much wlw manga that was more geared towards straight people.
I’d also really recommend the “green yuri” officially titled “the guy she was interested in wasn’t a guy at all” it subverts many of the unfortunate tropes that tend to be in w|w manga that isn’t really geared towards sapphic people. There’s a wonderful sapphic community around it as well
"The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All" is a good sapphic manga I found this year. It doesn't feel male catering at all, and has more the romance story manga vibe for a shoujo/josei (girl/older woman) audience. There's also Bloom Into You, which has a touch of ace rep and teenage angst. I can't recall it leaning more to the male audience, but it definitely feels more like shoujo manga than shounen. Then there's the outrageous Yurikuma Arashi, by a male, and despite its surreal sexual-metaphor scenes (in the anime at least), it's actually talking a lot about the lesbian social experience in Japan and a surrealist critique of how there's a societal expectation that sapphic romances should stop after school years as its frowned upon in adult years, and can lead to social shaming/shunning. It's why there's so little manga of women in relationships, even as side characters, and a lot more of it features school age girls (ick). That said adult women sapphic stories exist, they're just hard as heck to find.
Ahh I see, thank you for this explanation, that’s also how I kind of understood why there are so few honest wlw selections. But thank you also for these recs, I have heard of Bloom Into You and might give both of these a shot!
I love the manga She Loves to Cook, She Loves to Eat. It’s a soft love story w adult women and it’s not sexual or catering to the male gaze. It’s a very sweet fluffy manga
I wasn’t really a huge fan of bloom into you when I first read it, but that was a while ago so maybe I’ll re read it soon and see if I still think the same. Loved TGSWINWAGAA though!!!
@@Lesbiature in that same vein, you should definitely read Love Bullet, it’s still early on in the story but the author really needs the support and it’s about a group of cupids who have a chance at love and life again (it’s wlw but once again still early in the manga)
i’m so glad my algorithm decided to show me this video, truly enjoy how passionately you talk about your reads! in regards to sapphic/queer literature, I truly highly recommend Tamsyn Miur’s The Locked Tomb series. it is not yet finished and they are a ride, but boy are they worth the brain breaking journey they take you on. Miur’s world building and writing are so good
I cannot second this recommendation enough! The style of writing, the gripping and playful plot and the CHARACTERS! God I love them all so much, truly obsessed. I immediately started rereading Gideon after finishing Harrow and will likely reread Harrow before moving onto Nona.
I absolutely could not get enough of Harrow The Ninth, it’s my favorite in the series so far! So glad someone recommended the series here lol. Tamsyn Muir deserves all the praise, her others books are amazing as well!!
I haven't finished the series I had a lot of problems with my mental picture of where the characters are and what's going on in the first book. Also book one made me sad so I'm waiting until all of the series is out to read the rest.
I'd say if you haven't you should definitely check out the manga "The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't A Guy At All" Now THAT is an amazing wlw manga series and the art is incredibly good. It's one of my favorites, and now it's finally in physical print and can be purchased at most chain bookstores! ♡ Also, I'm begging you to add "A Dark and Drowning Tide" by Alison Saft to your tbr if you haven't. It's a sapphic dark-naturalist academia fantasy/mystery. My girlfriend and I read it together, and it was absolutely amazing!
Oh thank you for both these recs! I just heard about that manga and I’ll definitely be checking it out - and I’ll look into A Dark and Drowning Tide for sure!!
She Who Became the Sun (and the sequel He Who Drowned the World) are my favorite books maybe of all time so I’m glad you enjoyed the first one! Can’t recommend the second one enough.
I don't know whether to be grateful or scared that UA-cam knows me well enought to recommend a video like this. Chill vibes, pretty lesbian, and sapphic book recs, what more could I ask for? You've definitely got a new subscriber, and I've got more gay books to add to my ever-growing tbr :D
I have no words. It's the first time I've come across a video of yours, and I'm completely fascinated by the way you speak and how driven and passionate you seem to be. You kept me hooked from start to finish. Great video and great input on the books, keep going PLEASE :)
I've had a similar feeling of dissatisfaction with some popular lesbian manga, so I hope it's okay to give recs! Runaway With Me Girl is about a woman who meets up with her highschool ex-girlfriend 10 years after graduation. Because the protagonists are adults, I'd say it's more emotionally mature and "real" - it has one sex scene, but in my opinion it's done well. I also really enjoyed She Loves to Cook, She Loves to Eat, which is about two neighbours who become friends (and eventually more) through a shared love of food. My last recommendation is Our Dreams at Dusk - the main character is a gay teen who joins an LGBT group where he meets other people in his town like him. The most prominent side characters are two lesbians who are very important to the story, and have several chapters about their own relationship to one another. I hope you enjoy one or more of these reads if you end up checking them out!! great video
A manga that I read that doesn’t go into the typical tropes was “Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon”, it’s short and sweet. They’re also working adults so it also goes away from the typical teenager/high schooler stuff you get in most manga.
@caitlinmcdougal5728 Yes, I have. thought I wouldn't recommend it to her as she wanted something a little more pg. But I read all of it. It's pretty good.
Love the manga choices! I second the person who recommended “The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All” it’s stylistic, gorgeous, and wholesome.
I recommend reading She loves to cook and she loves to eat. Beautiful story with diverse characters. Theyve also faithfully adapted book 1 & 2 into a TV series. I loved it so much
i don’t know if you’ve read it yet, but you should definitely try reading “sunburn” by chloe michelle howarth, it’s SO good, the writing is incredible and i genuinely think about it every day since i read it also this video convinced me to finally start “she who became the sun”, i’ve had it on my tbr for so long but i keep putting it off so thank you for giving me the push i needed to start it lol
UA-cam recommended me this video a couple days ago and since then I've been binge watching all of your videos. I love the way you edit them, the choice of soundtrack and you're also really well spoken, such cozy vibes. Manifesting thousands of subscribers to this channel 🤞
How Do We Relationship? Is a great and complex sapphic manga series. There is sex but it's used to explain what the characters are going through emotionally/mentally.
Have you ever read the manga She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat? That manga has a show adaptation which is very emotionally warm and also realistic.
Best sapphic book I’ve ever read is “lf tomorrow doesn’t come” it’s so beautiful yet sad at the same time it looks on people’s struggles with mental health at the end of the world but at how love can heal that too. I think it’s best for teenagers but older people probably would enjoy reading it too
been reading "she loves to cook and she loves to eat" recently!! amazing wlw manga and totally great soft slice of life vibes (wont mention tgswiiwasaa cos everyone has lol but trust us its sooo good), the manhwa tamen de gushi is also a classic
this is my first video of yours I've stumbled upon and just reading the name of your channel... instantly subscribed. You're doing the lords fruity work
It's cool to see someone praise the Gearbreaker duology! I dont see it being talked about as much in sapphic book circles! Also if you haven't yet I definitely recommend reading He who Drowned the World, I wasn't disappointed!! Keep up the good work!! ❤
the way you talk about books is just so extremely passionate and i love it!! I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts and seeing what u do
i absolutely ADORED he who drowned the world!! if you loved the first one you’re gonna go insane with the sequel please YOU HAVE TO READ IT!!! also just discovered your channel and i am here to stay!! loved the vibe here
Thanks for the video!! Another manga you could try out, which is not suffering from male gaze (TM), is "How do we relationship?" In my opinion is one of the best depictions of queer relationships, the two main characters grow a lot throughout the seires. It's not complete yet, but it is worth to pick up even now before it is all out, in my opinion. There is also a fantasy series that I don't hear anyone talking about. It's called "Elemental Logic", first book being "Fire Logic". It's quite dark fantasy, gritty, but it is also very fascinating. The magic system is based on 4 elements, but it defines also the personality of the characters in a way. It's a bit of an older series, but if reading about it makes you curious, you could try pick up the first book. Only warning is: the magic system is very soft, doesn't have super clear and tight rules, or at least they don't get explained. So if that is not your cup of tea, you might want to thread carefully :)
If you want good yuri you should try How Do We Relationship. It does a really good job exploring what it means to be in a sapphic relationship and the protagonists' growth is super satisfying. Also they're not in high school, which is the case with most yuri.
I'm so happy to see that your faviourite sapphic book of 2024 is Catalan! It's the first time that a book written in Catalan gets selected for the Booker Price, and I'm glad it's a wlw story :)
I have read the Priory of the Orange Tree, and enjoyed it. If you want a really wonderful Sapphic trilogy then get When Women Were Warriors by Catherine M Wilson. There's a coming of age story, The characters have depth and a back story, there's political intrigue, and different cultures. It'sone of my favorite Sapphic Tales. There is another good trilogy by K Aten in which Kyri a young woman joins an Amazon tribe. There's lots of action anda sizzling romance between Kyri and the queen Orianna.
I dont know if you already read those books, but here a some lesbian romance books i read (and liked): The Ghost of us by James L. Sutter One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston She drives me crazy by Kelly Quindlen Auf der anderen Seite der Angst (I read it in German; idk if the book got translated into languages You speak) by Luisa Strunk She gets the girl by Racheal Lippincott and Alyson Derrick This Poison Heart (and the second book This Wicked Fate) by Kalynn Bayron Loved your video btw ^^
I read a few tasteful lesbian manga! Two being Doughnuts under the crescent moon and I married my female friend. They were very cute and it was adult working women and no smut with the nice tame shoujo slow burn vibes
16:51 the ghost growling moment is what sold me-I was also listening to the audiobook and it came over my car speakers AT NIGHT, and i nearly jumped out the vehicle 😅 i ALSO have been putting off the second book for the exact same reason
I also loved "She who became the sun"! A book that I read 2024 and which delighted everyone I borrowed it to was the graphic novel "The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich". It's so funny and like a breath of fresh air :) the art style is really beautiful too and the author even included her own story about her relationship and wedding pictures in her afterword! It's a nice and relaxing read for a sunny afternoon.
I love the way you talk about all of these books!! Great backdrop, and your reviews are concise and fun to listen to. Subscribed bc I don’t see a ton of sapphic-focused Booktube channels, and also bc I mostly read queer YA so it’s cool to see what people on the adult end of the reader-sphere are thinking :}
Will DEF be picking up Boulder and giving it my undivided attention. Your review of it had me sat. The language and emotion within the prose was truly beautiful and unique. I'm currently in the process of writing a sapphic novella and I already feel deeply inspired. Thank you for the rec! Also love your energy and atmosphere :)
UA-cam threw you in front of me and I didn't stop for a moment to think about whether or not to watch, and I'm glad I didn't.😊 ... might just hang around for a while and see what I shall see.
My favorite book I read this year was A Long Time Dead. It's a sapphic vampire romance mostly set in 1800s England. It's a bit of a slow burn and I ended up loving that.
Have you read Tasha Suri’s Burning Kingdoms trilogy?!?! It's a beautiful sapphic fantasy that dives DEEP into Indian culture and mythology. It’s packed with intricate world-building, forbidden magic, and powerful heroines navigating love and rebellion while taking on empires. It's anti-capitalist and anti-colonial and really well written. She's won a number of awards for the world building. The third book came out this month and I'm re-reading everything to be refreshed to read the third. Enemies turned lovers.... It's actually one of my top five series of all time. In any genre.
If you're looking for yuri manga and I'd recommend The Moon on a Rainy Night (if you've not read it before). It's about a closeted teenage girl falling for her deaf classmate, and it's just a very empathetic and sweet series while not becoming ~inspirational~ about disability, if you know what I mean.
Also recommend translated thai books for some wild sapphic storylines. Some can be out there but there a a great amount of life changing material out there. The Secret of Us is a great story.
you should read this book dark was earth by c.maxwell. it's literally the best lesbian romance fantasy ever written. its super hard to find on kindle ebook but a gem
12:00 Me and my friend both read Gearbreakers and we agreed its hard to understand. I had a to read the same page over and over just to try to get who was who and what was happening so its not just a "you problem" haha.
Anyone read Sunburn by Chloe Michelle? Kind of a slow burn but a good summer read with pretty realistic situations set in I think the 80s/90s Ireland??? It’s YA though-
For manga I would recommend: girl friends by Milk Morinaga (5 volumes total) and “confins de um sonho” by yumi sudō (I couldn’t find the name in English, unfortunately)
I loved Boulder! Also really enjoyed Mrs S by K Patrick, A Language of Limbs by Dylin Hardcastle, The Safe Keep by Yael van der Wouden, and Old Enough by Haley Jakobson
Has anyone mentioned Not So Shoujo Love Story yet? Hilarious, very sweet at times and then also very weird (there's this guy, you'll know him when you see him 😂) and its a romance centered on two highschool girls. Currently on webtoon but vol 1 is coming out this year!
Have you read The Jasmine Throne? It was my favorite book this year. I clicked the video to see what you thought about The Dark Tide. I personally kinda hated it and was really confused why it was even labeled as sapphic. I also saw someone recommend My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness and I’ll second that recommendation
I just heard about the Jasmine Throne and will be checking that out for sure! The Dark Tide definitely was kind of disappointing :/ But thank you for these recs!
my recommendation list: -Mrs S by K Patrick -Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir -Lucky Red by Claudia Craven -How it Works Out by Myriam Lacroix -Everyone in this Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin -The Adult by Bronwyn Fischer :)
Recommend Kate Hennessy ‘watch over me’ and the sequel ‘traces of me’ loved, loved, loved these books. Very intelligent writing and deserve to do well. You will be entertained for sure!
I’d love to hear what you think about The Blacksea Odyssey by J.A. Vodvarka! The trilogy (Unworthy, Unbound, and Unyielding) is, admittedly, not perfect in its prose, but I very much adored the characters and it is *loaded* with sapphic content, including - not one, but TWO enemies to lover’s story lines. I really enjoyed the plot, and haven’t seen much on it as it’s a more recent indie series! Very much recommend though (I tore through the entire series in a couple days as I had a hard time putting it down). It’s an arcane-punk fantasy with gods n whatnot, and a very good time I’d say. I’m also working through Gearbreakers right now, and loving it so far!! Glad to hear that the sequel is just as good, if not better than the first (I typically shy away from series out of fear of that exact problem haha) Great video!! Very happy to have found your channel :D
Oh thank you for this!! Unworthy has been on my radar but I’ve been nervous because I haven’t heard much about it since it’s so new - but you’ve psyched me up to check it out! Also I love that you’re enjoying Gearbreakers! And YES the sequel is so good 😭🫶🏻
I love when Queer sapphic decisions are made for me on what to read 😅 I do have good recs too. You need to get yourself the manga titled There Is No Love Wishing Upon a Star. There’s about four volumes out. It’s a beautiful yuri tale ❤
I see someone already suggested Milk Morinaga's "Girlfriends", which is a great read for a better portrayal of girls in their first relationship. I'd also suggest her other works. Wait for it: "Kisses, Sighs, and Cherry Blossoms Pink". I know how it sounds but it's actually really cute. "My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness" was a great read. Not afraid to shy away from the reality. There is also a sequel out for it but I haven't read it. Might I suggest Hiyori Otsu's works? Very specifically, "Aqua Blue Cinema" and "Clover"? These are some of the most down-to-earth yuri works I have found. Compared to a lot of the 'yuri' out there, hers is very sweet and the relationships feel much more genuine/'realistic' for mangas anyway. And Honey & Honey by Sachiko Takeuchi is autobiographical and pretty good. Actual adults in a relationship is always nice. Let us know if you like those...
I’ve gotten into Thai GL tv series and read a couple of the GL novels that most of those. The translations aren’t always good, sometimes painful honestly, but worth looking into.
Carmilla is probably my all time favorite book, I’ve read 2 (maybe 3?) editions and one and annotated the same edition as you. My favorite sapphic reads this year were, in no order: TLDR The scapegracers, August Clarke. Magic high schoolers. Gideon the ninth, Tamsyn Muir. Fantasy mystery. Our Hideous Progeny, CE McGill. Frankenstein descendant. We used to live here, Marcus Kliewer. Psychological horror. Camp Damascus, Chuck Tingle. Religious horror. Criers war, Nina Varela. Robot royalty. Crimson sails. Fantasy pirates (selkie & vampire). Honorable queer mention: The salt grows heavy, Cassandra Khaw. Dark fairytale. Currently reading Lucy undying. Really recommend the audiobook. -The scapegracers by August Clarke. Lesbian witches, a snarky demon, and gay dads. “Friendship is magic” but mixed with a subverted mean girls trope. It was AMAZING. Not super romance heavy but really beautiful queer friendships and blossoming of crushes, I’m reading book 2 now and it’s just as good. 5/5 quick read. -Gideon the ninth by tamsyn Muir. Other people have definitely made more compelling arguements for this but I’ll just say to look at the amazing fanart people make for this and it will be enough to convince you like it did me. 5/5, I’ve already bought the other books. -Our hideous progeny by ce mcgill. While mostly plot heavy, the relationships that are explored in this are so tender and real and I was yearning right along with our mc. 5/5 -We used to live here by Marcus Kliewer. Horror that genuinely kept my up at night and caused my heart to race. A lesbian couple new in town is visited by a strange family. 5/5 -Camp damascus by chuck tingle. Religious horror with friendship and romance along the way. I really enjoyed this, the writing has a distinct voice and the situations and relationships were so real I had to take breaks. The audiobook truly brings it to life. Really great nd character. Also turned my stomach. -crimson sails by Katee Robert. I did not read book 1 before this and was fine. 4/5 quick read! - Some from last year were -Criers war by nina varela. Robots, romance, royalty. Lots and lots of tears and it was really well written and the plot was balanced perfectly with the romance. 5/5 -The salt grows heavy is not exactly sapphic but I wanted to throw it in (nonbinary/unlabeled x woman) it’s truly beautiful, haunting, thought provoking, and best of all: a 3 hour listen. I really recommend the audiobook. I’m currently listening to Lucy undying by Kiersten white, it’s beautifully narrated and I have a feeling it will be 5/5.
Thank you so much for sharing your sapphic picks! I'm going to happily have to look in to some of those - but I also read Crier's War a few years ago and loved it!
Sapphic Manga Recommendations Goodbye, My Rose Garden Bloom into You How Do We Relationship This Monster Wants to Eat Me Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon
Priory was SO over-hyped, SO underwhelming and yes, nothing felt real, because she basically didn't DESCRIBE anything! What a waste of time that one was, for me at least. I love, love hearing about the prose-heavy one, though. I will give it a try ❤️🌈
Loved your video. You did a great job. Some books I haven't read yet and others I have. I'm a sucker for sapphic fantasy, my go to genre, I had high hopes for Priory since it was so hyped, ultimately it was a let down. The sapphic romance and world was its saving grace, but overall it was eh, compared to other sapphic fantasies I've read.
Thank you! I love a good sapphic fantasy as well, and I completely agree about priory. There are plenty of other sapphic fantasies that deserve the hype priory got!
@@Lesbiature Sam Ferran books are really good, they write character driven fantasy with a sapphic romance or two in their novels. Silvia Shaw's Rand trilogy is really good. Also if you like Dark Fantasy, SD Simper. And I absolutely love Hiyodori's Clem and Wist books.
Ohhh thank you for this video!! I had to dnf priory because I was expecting GAY and 100 pages in I’d only gotten like … gay??? And I was just too disappointed to continue. But maybe I’ll give the prequel a shot??? She who became the sun has been on my TBR for a while now and you’ve inspired me to get a move on and read it soon! Am so glad you’re giving the stormlight archive a try!! It’s my absolute favourite series and I’m just getting through book 5 atm. How are you liking it so far?
Thank you for watching! And I knowww I definitely needed way more gay in Priory lol, but if you liked the world at all I would say give the prequel a go! I have been absolutely loving The Way of Kings (racing to finish it by the end of the year), and I've already decided I'll be reading the whole series for sure. Happy to know you've made it all the way to book 5!
The only queer Manga i felt some connection with was the Blue Flag series 💕 very much recommend but you really need to stick it out until the end for the whole picture. Also one that ive only seen the anime for ((and is not just made for fetishization)) was Madoka Magika? I watched it in middle school and didnt recognize it as Sapphic until my roomate recently pointed it out and i totally see why i loved it so much
The last book sounds refreshing. I love the phase three moons instead of three months it's cute. As a lesbian who learn English as a second language, I find myself quite motivated by reading queer stuff hahaha. BTW I don't like very sexual graphic manga either so I would recommend these 1. Stretch by Akili. It's a stretching manga. The story is about 2 girls who knew each other from high school and became a roommate. The student doctor one ask the other to help her practice stretching post. I love this silly book soooo much. Their relationship is so funny. Also not really a single kiss or portrait sex scene because they are busy on keep prank each other every chance they have. 2. Suito-to! by Okino Yui. It's a food manga. The story is about an ordinary college girl who really love meat and other fatty food. She keeps on posting sugary and sweet kinds of food on social media to protect her image(very Japan society things). One day, her quiet classmate finds out about this secret and also another secret that she being lesbian. The story goes on kind of slow-burn chemistry and find new exciting food spots(base on real restaurant) to share the love of food with each other. . Hope this help you find new test of manga. Thanks for your book's recommendation.
haha, the whole video i was like "you should read she who became the sun you will love it", feels good to be right, i am reading he who drowned the world right now and it does not dissapoint!
As someone who has read many, many, many yuri /gl manga and comics since 2011 the bad days. The recommendations in the comments for almost all of them are great, and I've read all of the ones I've seen in the comments. I hope you will put out a video with a review out the recommendations. Pretty please. Edit forgot to add my recommendations Ring my bell, a web comic so not easy to find Cheerful amnesia manga Beauty and the beast girl manga Monthly in the Garden with My Landlord manga Kase-san and morning glory (this series has a lot of kase-san and etc. Stories so look up reading order) manga Sora & Haena! Web comic? I think.
Agh! Thank you so much for the reassurance and these recs!! I would love to do a video on sapphic manga - as soon as I feel I’ve read a good amount of them!
@Lesbiature you're welcome. I hope you enjoy the manga. Also, if you want something with a similar story to what you read in the video but done better, read "I married my female friend" original name "Onna Tomodachi to Kekkon Shitemita."
Already seeing plenty of manga recs in the comments but not yet any bloom it you which is a travesty, and I give you the obgitory love bullet rec, it’s ongoing and hasn’t been very gay yet but promises to be and has a very interesting premises
so youtube recommended me this video and i just like to respectfully say that you are very very charming, and also i dropped A Day of Fallen Night but now i might give it another chance!
Samee i can't find a great wlw anime or manga. Like they're cute but their relationships are idk... Also a new sub!! I'll definitely read your recs thank you Also again :)) have you read the falling in love montage? It's my favorite wlw romance
It builds upon the already complex characters and oh gosh it has such a special place in my heart. When I think about the duology my heart breaks for the characters in a good way
@ It’s cute ☺️ Also, if you look up “slice of life” and “yuri” you can get more lesbian stories written for the lesbian reader. Thank you for sharing your recommendations too! That is a lot of reading for a year !
I share the sentiment that lesbian manga has a long way to go to truely cater towards their target audience. I have sifted through a lot of not ideal reads to be once again disappointed that it wasn't what i was looking for which is simply a cute love story between two women where no-one dies and there isn't exesively sexual scenes. Sigh, one day...
guys can I get a lesbian novel rec? with no male characters (brothers and fathers allowed ig) and two LESBIAN leads. No comphet. Just roommates/enemies/best friends to lovers typa thing?
Ooo of course! “Juliet Takes a Breath” is a nice coming of age story, “The Mermaid, The Witch, and The Sea” is more YA, but a super fun fantasy. The “Gearbreakers” duology are amazing sci-fi stories. I’ve also been reading the “Cosmoknights” graphic novel series which has been super cute 😊
Hi! This is a good video! I have to put some on my list. If you need more sapphic manga I recommend I can't believe I slept with you, Yuri Life, and After Hours! I hope you have a good weekend!
Just wanted to warn that the SWBTS sequel treats its female and sapphic characters very poorly. As someone who was an AVID fan of book 1, book 2 was an enormous let down. The treatment of gender and sexuality felt as half-hearted and conflicted as House of the Dragon. And Ma is done very very dirty.
in terms of sapphic manga: have you read "run away with me girl"? also it literally took me a year to read priory of the orange tree and i ended up hating it 😭and by a year to read it i mean that i got halfway through, got bored but still wanted to finish so was like "i'll just set it down to read a few other things so i can come back later with a fresh mind", intending "later" to be like... two weeks? and then later was quite literally an entire year to the month. i felt like there was a lot of potential there but very rarely was it follow through on. and samantha girl this book did NOT need to be this long. not to mention that, while i absolutely don't think this was samantha shannon's intention, there it certainly was a choice to essentially have the book end with "there is, in fact, a Correct and also Morally Superior religion and you should feel bad for having believed in the Wrong religion and in fact the newly-converted queen is going to slowly but surely pressure her entire country to convert to the Correct religion". like samantha girl think about the implications before you publish.
I hadn’t heard of that manga! It looks cute, thanks for the rec! But I totallllyy understand having a hard time getting through priory. It’s saving graces for me were really personal things I think. And I was definitely dragging my feet getting through it too. And I can see that about the religion as well - It didn’t bother me too much, but I do see how it’s easy to draw parallels with certain things 😬
@Lesbiature yea the author started doing the stories on Spotify and she has made two of her stories as a book she has quiet a few lesbian stories but I'm guessing you prefer reading than listening. I think she will make the rest of the stories as books eventually tho.
I don't know if you've read the manga, "My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness" but I definitely recommend it. It's an autobiography and it is was a breath of fresh air after reading so much wlw manga that was more geared towards straight people.

@@Lesbiature in that same vein, you should definitely read Love Bullet, it’s still early on in the story but the author really needs the support and it’s about a group of cupids who have a chance at love and life again (it’s wlw but once again still early in the manga)
i’m so glad my algorithm decided to show me this video, truly enjoy how passionately you talk about your reads!
in regards to sapphic/queer literature, I truly highly recommend Tamsyn Miur’s The Locked Tomb series. it is not yet finished and
they are a ride, but boy are they worth the brain breaking journey they take you on. Miur’s world building and writing are so good
Ooo Gideon the Ninth has been on my tbr!! I’m even more excited to get to it, thank you!
I cannot second this recommendation enough! The style of writing, the gripping and playful plot and the CHARACTERS! God I love them all so much, truly obsessed.
I immediately started rereading Gideon after finishing Harrow and will likely reread Harrow before moving onto Nona.
I agree! That series is great! I read them with my dad and even my straight male father loved it lol
Agh it was so good! Thank you for recommending the sequel, I think I’ll dive in to it next!
I’m so happy that UA-cam knows you well enough haha, thanks so much!!
I have no words. It's the first time I've come across a video of yours, and I'm completely fascinated by the way you speak and how driven and passionate you seem to be. You kept me hooked from start to finish. Great video and great input on the books, keep going PLEASE :)
Aww thank you so so much for the kind words! 😊
I hope you enjoy one or more of these reads if you end up checking them out!! great video
Thank you so much for these recommendations! And for providing little synopses too - Runaway With Me Girl sounds right up my alley!!
A manga that I read that doesn’t go into the typical tropes was “Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon”, it’s short and sweet. They’re also working adults so it also goes away from the typical teenager/high schooler stuff you get in most manga.
Ooo thank you for this! I’ll check it out!
I second that recommendation
I need to finish it. I really enjoy it. Have you read I can't believe I slept with you?
@caitlinmcdougal5728 Yes, I have. thought I wouldn't recommend it to her as she wanted something a little more pg. But I read all of it. It's pretty good.
Love the manga choices! I second the person who recommended “The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All” it’s stylistic, gorgeous, and wholesome.
Definitely gonna read that one!! Thanks!
I was about to say that
as a Sapphic Librarian, I love this :)
I recommend reading She loves to cook and she loves to eat. Beautiful story with diverse characters. Theyve also faithfully adapted book 1 & 2 into a TV series. I loved it so much
Thank you for the recs!!
this video is so comfortable and cozy, i love your channel :))
Thank you! 😊
i don’t know if you’ve read it yet, but you should definitely try reading “sunburn” by chloe michelle howarth, it’s SO good, the writing is incredible and i genuinely think about it every day since i read it
also this video convinced me to finally start “she who became the sun”, i’ve had it on my tbr for so long but i keep putting it off so thank you for giving me the push i needed to start it lol
Ooo I will look into Sunburn for sure! Thank you - I hope you enjoy!!
I second Sunburn! I loved it so much!
"Run away with me, girl" by Battan is very wholesome manga. I've read it not that long ago, but I already reread it and cried a couple of times
UA-cam recommended me this video a couple days ago and since then I've been binge watching all of your videos. I love the way you edit them, the choice of soundtrack and you're also really well spoken, such cozy vibes. Manifesting thousands of subscribers to this channel 🤞
Agghh thank you so much!!
How Do We Relationship? Is a great and complex sapphic manga series. There is sex but it's used to explain what the characters are going through emotionally/mentally.
Fantastic! Thank you!
Have you ever read the manga She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat? That manga has a show adaptation which is very emotionally warm and also realistic.
I haven’t, thank you for the rec!
I love finding a video where I'll check the time remaining and think "yes!! There's more of it!" I absolutely love these vibes 🥰
Ohh that’s so so good to hear! Thank you!
Best sapphic book I’ve ever read is “lf tomorrow doesn’t come” it’s so beautiful yet sad at the same time it looks on people’s struggles with mental health at the end of the world but at how love can heal that too. I think it’s best for teenagers but older people probably would enjoy reading it too
basically was searching something for term paper, but your voice , hands and the way you Speak hypnotized me, if not mesmerized.
been reading "she loves to cook and she loves to eat" recently!! amazing wlw manga and totally great soft slice of life vibes (wont mention tgswiiwasaa cos everyone has lol but trust us its sooo good), the manhwa tamen de gushi is also a classic
this is my first video of yours I've stumbled upon and just reading the name of your channel... instantly subscribed. You're doing the lords fruity work
Hahah thank you!!
It's cool to see someone praise the Gearbreaker duology! I dont see it being talked about as much in sapphic book circles! Also if you haven't yet I definitely recommend reading He who Drowned the World, I wasn't disappointed!! Keep up the good work!! ❤
I know right?? But I def enjoyed it! And thank you so much for the motivation - it’s next on my tbr!!
the way you talk about books is just so extremely passionate and i love it!! I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts and seeing what u do
Aw thank you so much! Happy to hear that!
i absolutely ADORED he who drowned the world!! if you loved the first one you’re gonna go insane with the sequel please YOU HAVE TO READ IT!!! also just discovered your channel and i am here to stay!! loved the vibe here
AGH okay!! It’ll be my first read for 2025! How exciting - and thank you!
Thank you so much for these recs - I am definitely going to look more into both!! (I think soft magic systems are mysterious and cool 😎)
If you want good yuri you should try How Do We Relationship. It does a really good job exploring what it means to be in a sapphic relationship and the protagonists' growth is super satisfying. Also they're not in high school, which is the case with most yuri.
Just had this one recommending to me! I’m super interested, especially because they’re not school mates - thank you!
I'm so happy to see that your faviourite sapphic book of 2024 is Catalan! It's the first time that a book written in Catalan gets selected for the Booker Price, and I'm glad it's a wlw story :)
I didn’t know that, that’s amazing! Such a good read!
I dont know if you already read those books, but here a some lesbian romance books i read (and liked):
The Ghost of us by James L. Sutter
One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston
She drives me crazy by Kelly Quindlen
Auf der anderen Seite der Angst (I read it in German; idk if the book got translated into languages You speak) by Luisa Strunk
She gets the girl by Racheal Lippincott and Alyson Derrick
This Poison Heart (and the second book This Wicked Fate) by Kalynn Bayron
Loved your video btw ^^
Appreciate this list! I’ll have to check them out - thank you so much!!
Thanks for all the recs :PP I love the pacing of this video by the way! Keep it up :))
Thank you!! 🫡
Loved this video! Sapphic books just have such a dear place in my heart 😣
Thank you! Me too 😊
I read a few tasteful lesbian manga! Two being Doughnuts under the crescent moon and I married my female friend. They were very cute and it was adult working women and no smut with the nice tame shoujo slow burn vibes
Oh and cheerful amnesia was good too, again adult working women and more forward moving than the other two listed but not overly sexual
Ohhh thank you for these!
16:51 the ghost growling moment is what sold me-I was also listening to the audiobook and it came over my car speakers AT NIGHT, and i nearly jumped out the vehicle 😅 i ALSO have been putting off the second book for the exact same reason
Hahah love this! We’ve got to get in to the sequel though!
Ooo so interested in this, thank you!!
I love the way you talk about all of these books!! Great backdrop, and your reviews are concise and fun to listen to. Subscribed bc I don’t see a ton of sapphic-focused Booktube channels, and also bc I mostly read queer YA so it’s cool to see what people on the adult end of the reader-sphere are thinking :}
That’s absolutely why I started this channel! Happy to have you here 😊
damn ok i'm reading boulder rn so now i am extra motivated to finish it before the end of the year ty!
Ooo I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!
I highly recommended the manga Run Away With Me Girl by Battan if you want a completed and short read that isn't catered to men, absolutely beautiful.
Ooothank you for this!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! And all the luck to you on your novella!
This is the first video of yours that I’ve Watched and I have to say I LOVE the way you speak so softly
Aww thank you! That’s so nice to hear
yesss the more sapphic book videos i come across on this platform the happier i get
Sameee haha
This is so random but the way you talk is great! I’ve been wanting to subscribe to a lesbian book reader but I’m so picky about peoples voices 😭
Aww okay but that’s so good to hear! I too am rather picky about the people I listen to, so I’m glad that I make the cut 😬😂
UA-cam threw you in front of me and I didn't stop for a moment to think about whether or not to watch, and I'm glad I didn't.😊 ... might just hang around for a while and see what I shall see.
loved this! you have successfully convinced me to read boulder ❤
My favorite book I read this year was A Long Time Dead. It's a sapphic vampire romance mostly set in 1800s England. It's a bit of a slow burn and I ended up loving that.
I loved Boulder so much! A beautiful book! Great video, I will have to check out these other books.
I know right?! Haha thank you!
Thx for the recommendation!
I haven’t but you just sold it for me!! Definitely going on the tbr, thanks so much for the rec!
@@Lesbiature Hope you love it!
I just left a comment asking about this lol. It was my favorite read this year
omg YES lotus empire was definitely my fav read this year and oleander sword is still my fav book of all time
If you're looking for yuri manga and I'd recommend The Moon on a Rainy Night (if you've not read it before). It's about a closeted teenage girl falling for her deaf classmate, and it's just a very empathetic and sweet series while not becoming ~inspirational~ about disability, if you know what I mean.
Aww that sounds very sweet, thank you for the rec!!
the vibes of this video are immaculate. i’ve now ordered Women who became the sun
Agh thank you!! Hope you enjoy it!
omggggggg, boulder is so good, i read it this year and its insaneee
So glad to have found your channel. Great book recs. Even the few snippets from Boulder has me searching for it at my local shops.
Also recommend translated thai books for some wild sapphic storylines. Some can be out there but there a a great amount of life changing material out there. The Secret of Us is a great story.
Thank you for this! I’m going to look into that!
you should read this book dark was earth by c.maxwell. it's literally the best lesbian romance fantasy ever written. its super hard to find on kindle ebook but a gem
I’ll look into it, thank you!
Love the vibes of the video. Thank ypu for giving me so many good sapphic recs to read
Haha well I’m happy you clicked! Thanks so much for watching! 😊
12:00 Me and my friend both read Gearbreakers and we agreed its hard to understand. I had a to read the same page over and over just to try to get who was who and what was happening so its not just a "you problem" haha.
Hahah good to know, thank you for the reassurance!
Now that’s a review! Thank you for your video and thoughts.
Anyone read Sunburn by Chloe Michelle? Kind of a slow burn but a good summer read with pretty realistic situations set in I think the 80s/90s Ireland??? It’s YA though-
It’s very recently been added to my tbr!
For manga I would recommend: girl friends by Milk Morinaga (5 volumes total) and “confins de um sonho” by yumi sudō (I couldn’t find the name in English, unfortunately)
Thank you for these!! I will definitely look into them!
I loved Boulder! Also really enjoyed Mrs S by K Patrick, A Language of Limbs by Dylin Hardcastle, The Safe Keep by Yael van der Wouden, and Old Enough by Haley Jakobson
I’m going to look into these for sure! Thank you!!
"I married my female friend" is like a non-sexual version of that manga you read btw I really liked it
ok, I'm going to put all these titles on my book list for the new year😅
Has anyone mentioned Not So Shoujo Love Story yet?
The Dark Tide definitely was kind of disappointing :/
But thank you for these recs!
my recommendation list:
-Mrs S by K Patrick
-Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
-Lucky Red by Claudia Craven
-How it Works Out by Myriam Lacroix
-Everyone in this Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin
-The Adult by Bronwyn Fischer
:)
Ooo thank you for this!!
Off topic but I love your hair, it fits you so well!
Thank you!
"she loves to cook, she loves to eat" wonderful very soft yuri/ace manga
Thank you!
Recommend Kate Hennessy ‘watch over me’ and the sequel ‘traces of me’ loved, loved, loved these books. Very intelligent writing and deserve to do well. You will be entertained for sure!
Thank you for the recs! I will definitely look into them!
Glad to hear that the sequel is just as good, if not better than the first (I typically shy away from series out of fear of that exact problem haha)
Great video!!
Thank you for the rec, I’ll look into that one!
Girlfriends , useless prices, bloom into you are my favourite yuri manga ones personally 🧎🏻♀️
Thank you for these! So happy to be getting so many sapphic manga recs, I will definitely look into all of these!
I’ve gotten into Thai GL tv series and read a couple of the GL novels that most of those. The translations aren’t always good, sometimes painful honestly, but worth looking into.
I’ll have to check them out, thank you!
Carmilla is probably my all time favorite book, I’ve read 2 (maybe 3?) editions and one and annotated the same edition as you. My favorite sapphic reads this year were, in no order:
TLDR
The scapegracers, August Clarke.
-We used to live here by Marcus Kliewer. Horror that genuinely kept my up at night and caused my heart to race. A lesbian couple new in town is visited by a strange family. 5/5
-Camp damascus by chuck tingle.
-
Some from last year were -Criers war by nina varela. Robots, romance, royalty. Lots and lots of tears and it was really well written and the plot was balanced perfectly with the romance. 5/5
-The salt grows heavy is not exactly sapphic but I wanted to throw it in (nonbinary/unlabeled x woman) it’s truly beautiful, haunting, thought provoking, and best of all: a 3 hour listen.
@ awesome!! Have you read the second book, iron heart? I haven’t had the time yet but I’m hoping to this coming year!
@@kailyncorey8267 yes I did! I honestly enjoyed it even more than the first one! I hope you do too 🤞🏻
Sapphic Manga Recommendations
Goodbye, My Rose Garden
Bloom into You
How Do We Relationship
This Monster Wants to Eat Me
Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon
Thank you for these!!
I watched it in middle school and didnt recognize it as Sapphic until my roomate recently pointed it out and i totally see why i loved it so much
Ooo thank you so much for this! I’ll check both out!
The last book sounds refreshing. I love the phase three moons instead of three months it's cute. As a lesbian who learn English as a second language, I find myself quite motivated by reading queer stuff hahaha. BTW I don't like very sexual graphic manga either so I would recommend these
Oooh thank you so much for these recs! I will look into them both!
haha, the whole video i was like "you should read she who became the sun you will love it", feels good to be right, i am reading he who drowned the world right now and it does not dissapoint!
That’s so good to hear!! It will be next on my tbr then!
As someone who has read many, many, many yuri /gl manga and comics since 2011 the bad days. The recommendations in the comments for almost all of them are great, and I've read all of the ones I've seen in the comments.
I hope you will put out a video with a review out the recommendations. Pretty please.
Edit forgot to add my recommendations
Ring my bell, a web comic so not easy to find
Cheerful amnesia manga
Beauty and the beast girl manga
Monthly in the Garden with My Landlord manga
Kase-san and morning glory (this series has a lot of kase-san and etc. Stories so look up reading order) manga
Sora & Haena! Web comic? I think.
I'm sorry I don't even know what the video is about yet but I just saw the thumbnail and had to click. you are so gorgeous I can't deal :')
You should definitely read the manga The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All. F- cutest sh- Eva! Great vlog.
I will definitely get my hands on that one! Thank you :)
Aww thank you for saying so! I realize 900 pages is a big chance haha, but if you’re down to give it a go I hope you enjoy it!
Samee i can't find a great wlw anime or manga. Like they're cute but their relationships are idk...
Also a new sub!!
I'll definitely read your recs thank you
Also again :)) have you read the falling in love montage? It's my favorite wlw romance
I knowww, one day we’ll find something good🤞🏻 But thank you!! I will give that book a search!
Oh cool! New channel to subscribe
I absolutely loved she who became the sun. I loved the gender bending and the raw emotions of each character. I sobbed at the end!
Also you must read he who drowned the world!!!!
It builds upon the already complex characters and oh gosh it has such a special place in my heart. When I think about the duology my heart breaks for the characters in a good way
Agh!!! Okay! It’ll have to be my first 2025 read then!
Have you read the manga “The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy At All”?
I had not! Just googled it and it looks promising - thanks so much for the rec!!
@ It’s cute ☺️ Also, if you look up “slice of life” and “yuri” you can get more lesbian stories written for the lesbian reader. Thank you for sharing your recommendations too! That is a lot of reading for a year !
Agh thank you so very much for this!
Maybe you should try the manga Bloom Into You
I share the sentiment that lesbian manga has a long way to go to truely cater towards their target audience.
No comphet. Just roommates/enemies/best friends to lovers typa thing?
omg that second to last book she who became the sun kinda sounds like FGEP
Had to look it up, but yes! It’s incredibly similar 🧐
POC Sapphic Res pls? ❤
Thank u!!
Hi! This is a good video! I have to put some on my list. If you need more sapphic manga I recommend I can't believe I slept with you, Yuri Life, and After Hours! I hope you have a good weekend!
Ah thank you!! And you as well!
Thank you for this 🫡 Appreciate the warning
in terms of sapphic manga: have you read "run away with me girl"?
also it literally took me a year to read priory of the orange tree and i ended up hating it 😭and by a year to read it i mean that i got halfway through, got bored but still wanted to finish so was like "i'll just set it down to read a few other things so i can come back later with a fresh mind", intending "later" to be like... two weeks? and then later was quite literally an entire year to the month. i felt like there was a lot of potential there but very rarely was it follow through on. and samantha girl this book did NOT need to be this long.
not to mention that, while i absolutely don't think this was samantha shannon's intention, there it certainly was a choice to essentially have the book end with "there is, in fact, a Correct and also Morally Superior religion and you should feel bad for having believed in the Wrong religion and in fact the newly-converted queen is going to slowly but surely pressure her entire country to convert to the Correct religion". like samantha girl think about the implications before you publish.
Have you read the lesbian romantic books?
Worth the risk
Connection concealed
By Sigrid Dufraimont
I have not! But I’ll definitely look into them - thank you!
@Lesbiature yea the author started doing the stories on Spotify and she has made two of her stories as a book she has quiet a few lesbian stories but I'm guessing you prefer reading than listening. I think she will make the rest of the stories as books eventually tho.
@Lesbiature they are defo top tier lesbian stories. It helps she's gay herself lol 😆
